This edition presents Fauré's masterpiece in a form which accords with his original intention that it should be a liturgical Requiem with accompaniment of organ and chamber ensemble. The 1893 version is an expansion of Fauré's original, prepared by the composer for a performance at the Church of the Madeleine in Paris and containing two additional movements, the Offertoire and the Libera me. In contrast to the fully orchestrated version that was published in 1900, this edition preserves the original chamber instrumentation, and it also contains a full English translation by John Rutter. Complete orchestral and vocal material is available on hire/rental, and the vocal score, full score, and parts are also available on sale.

The simplified, pared-down textures of this revived Requiem were a revelation, and seemed to add, rather than detract from the work's power to move. The Oxford University Press Choral Classics series has continued to be a vehicle for Rutter's work as editor and to showcase interesting historical curiosities . . . About the Author

John Rutter studied music at Clare College, Cambridge and first came to notice as a composer and arranger of Christmas carols and other choral pieces during those early years; today his compositions, including such concert-length works as Requiem, Magnificat, Mass of the Children, The Gift of Life, and Visions are performed around the world. John edits the Oxford Choral Classics series, and, with Sir David Willcocks, co-edited four volumes of Carols for Choirs. In 1983 he formed his own choir The Cambridge Singers, with whom he has made numerous recordings on the Collegium Records label, and he appears regularly in several countries as a guest conductor and choral ambassador. John holds a Lambeth Doctorate in Music, and was awarded a CBE for services to music in 2007.

I have a French copy but this is the chosen edition by the Director of Music. I had to wait a few days for delivery but that was no problem. It's a very clear copy but to save paper it's in short score. That makes it a lighter copy.

This is a vocal score for soprano and baritone solo with SATB chorus and organ accompaniment of the 1893 version of Fauré's Requiem, edited by John Rutter in 1983 and published by OUP. It includes both the Latin words and an English translation by Rutter. It is clearly laid out and printed. Note that it differs from the 1975 Novello version edited by Desmond Ratcliffe in layout, tempo, dynamics, and rehearsal letters. There are also a few small differences in words and notes. This calls for extra care in rehearsing a chorus using both versions, but it can be done.

exactly what we needed for the choral society, clear, easily read, arrived on time, what more can I say? It just needs the voice to sing it.

This is a "must-have" vocal score for anyone who wants to sing the complete Faure "Requiem"

So often the scores of great standards that are sung often throughout the world are on faded-to-yellow paper and the printing is photocopied from a century old publication of the score..This score is an accurate and complete vocal score of the Requiem, printed on easy-to-read and white-as-snow paper stock, which makes reading it inside a darkened church much easier to read than an old, yellowed score published a hundred years ago. I highly recommend it for soloists and choirmembers who will be performing the Faure "Requiem."
