Must have book for indoor plants! After being indoors more during the pandemic, I decided to bring nature into my home and turned to this book for advice. Houseplants are known to filter toxins from the air, they are great for both our physical health and mental wellbeing.David Domoney is an award-winning horticulturalist and he writes this in an easy to follow yet informative manner. He includes 50 indoor plant profiles, sections on which plants can enhance your mood in different ways and so much more expert advice!
5.0 out of 5 stars A book with a split personality
I bought both the Kindle version and the hardback version of this book. The Kindle version could not be more different from the paper one - in fact, they are two different books.Firstly, I want to congratulate the author of the Kindle version, it is one wonderful read, which led me to buy the hardback paper version. They seem to have been written by two completely different authors. yes, there are lovely photos in the book version, but the text is more or less bullet points, and worse still, one of the named plants, Mimosa pudica, is not the plant in its photo at all, but a completely unrelated plant, Biophytum sensitivum. This is a pretty fatal error in a plant book, in my opinion, especially as the said plant under the name Mimosa pudica, appears in the book three times.I have contacted the publishers and gicven them time to respond, which they have not, although a message tells me that their email address is monitored constantly every day.I wanted a hard copy version of the Kindle book, and seemingly that is just not possible, The author would be wise to issue his Kindle book as a hardback himself, or at least not allow the publisher's employees loose on the publication. You can get lovely plant photos everywhere these days, but not the most interesting text I found in the Kindle version of this book. What more can I say?
4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely little book
The media could not be loaded. It’s a great, handy little book for quick reference on houseplants. As a beginner in gardening in the home it’s ideal to help me care for my plants, and to help me choose new ones. However, imagine my surprise when I opened the book to find it was all upside down. How odd. After finally figuring out how to read it without standing on my head I was well away. Possibly the reason for the knockdown price?

Excellent, very informative, well laid out.
I love this book, from the pictures and descriptions at the beginning to the detailed "how to care for."As a pet owner I appreciate that he describes which plants are not good for pets.Love, love, love that he tells which plants are good for creating a relaxing, energizing or creative environment!I'm writing this at the time of the pandemic so knowing which plants are "air purifiers" is great to know too, it will make for a better sleep for sure!I know have the confidence to splurge on my new passion - houseplants! Overpriced.
Gorgeous, informative, inspirational
This is a truly delightful little book that will serve as inspiration for getting more plants in your home. The thing I love the most is that every page--EVERY PAGE--has pictures, illustrations, and photos, all in full color. The info is presented in little snippets and tidbits. It makes for a wonderfully browsable book. You’ll feel more calm and centered just flipping through it, and I guarantee that it will make you want to go get some plants. There are sections about how to buy plants (what to look for, etc.) and then where to position them. There is a large section devoted to good plant choices to calm and relax, energize and enthuse, cheer up, and spark creativity. The table of contents has a little illustration of all the different plants covered in the book, so if you have a plant and aren’t sure what it is, it makes it easy for you to spot it. And probably most of the most common plants (plus many uncommon ones) are included. Each plant has its own two-page spread with a color photo and the most important information, including where to put it, what it’s good for, how to care for it, and how to propagate it (if applicable). Poisonous plants are pointed out. The growth rate is given (a helpful bit of info you don’t always see). This book won’t contain everything you need to know about houseplants, but it’ll get you started in a friendly, non-intimidating way. If you’re an old hand at growing houseplants, you might not learn much here, but you’d probably still enjoy browsing the gorgeous contents. This book would be excellent for someone getting houseplants for the first time, or for someone who doesn’t have much luck with houseplants. It’d be excellent reading material in a waiting room (or bathroom). It’d be a great housewarming present. And it would also be a great gift for yourself.Thoroughly enjoyable and informative.
My Houseplant Changed my Life
I've only been a plant mom for about 3 years now. Most of the information I've found has been off the internet. The book, is very informative and has great illustrations. Its a quick reference guide for types of plants and helpful growing tips. If you've searched for information on the internet at all, this wont have any new or secret tips and tricks. But I find its more useful as being a quick reference and guide. If I find a plant not doing well, I can quickly open up the book and check if I have the lighting and watering right. IT saves me the trouble of having to sift through several websites to find the information. It also displays nicely on my plant shelf.
