Florence Nightingale (78) (Little People, BIG DREAMS)

Description:

About this item:

In this book from the highly acclaimed Little People, BIG DREAMS series, discover the incredible life of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

Growing up in an upper-class family, it was expected that Florence would find a husband and live a life of luxury – but that kind of life wasn’t for her.
Her calling was caring for the sick and the poor, so she followed her passion with her whole heart and trained to be a nurse.

When war broke out, Florence travelled to nurse wounded soldiers but found that the hospitals were so dirty that they were making people ill! This experience
inspired her to lead a healthcare revolution, and she became the mother of modern nursing, introducing care practices still followed today.

This inspiring book features
stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the social reformer’s life.

Florence NightingaleWell deserving of her place in this inspiring and thoughtful series; often championing more recent influences and famous people. Here is one I truly knew a little bit about before reading Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara’s mini biography of Florence Nightingale. As always beautifully illustrated with a gentle palette of colour. Enhancing simple words to carry the story to a young audience.Florence was fortunate to receive a better education than most young girls. But against her parent’s wishes she found her desire to help others overtook more accepted futures via a wealthy marriage, expected of women in her time. Instead with determination and hard work she studied the art of nursing care. By her authority later, amid a time of war, she revolutionised cleanliness and promoted high standards in hospital wards.I have always been aware of her role in preventing death during the Crimean War but this is a book to cherish and motivate young minds as it shows a simple girl who had a lasting legacy.Change can happen when ideas are shared, where voices and actions are heard and followed.I do feel this series makes a difference in taking role models from their earliest days and showing how dreams can come to pass. Caring for others brings a different reward package; such life stories are still needed to show the lasting values for society. I am sorry that the additional hospital buildings built during the recent pandemic and known as Nightingales could not be brought into this far reaching life story.

Love this series!

I love books and am hoping to pass that down to my kids. I have been reading my whole life - more so than most people or so I am told. I am typically reading 2-3 novels at a time. That being said I am very impressed with Little People, BIG DREAMS!The readability of this book is amazing - I can read this to my seven year old and have a slightly decent conversation with my seven year old and then in a year or so he will be able to start reading this book on his own.Florence Nightingale was again a hit with my eight year old and he loved that she took care of people.Art - the art is lovely and simple - but keeps your eyes moving to see everythingStory - Straightforward and easy for my kids to understand. With all that being said - this is an excellent book! And each and every one of the little people, BIG DREAMS books introduces your children to a different sport, career, art style, a life they could also live!

Wonderful story, wonderful series!
