About this item:

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A decade-by-decade cookbook that highlights the best (and a few of the worst) baking recipes from the 20th century

Friends of baking, are you sick and tired of making the same recipes again and again? Then look no further than this baking blast from the past, as B. Dylan Hollis highlights the most unique tasty treats of yesteryear.

Travel back in time on a delicious decade-by-decade jaunt as Dylan shows you how to bake vintage forgotten greats. With a big pinch of fun and a full cup of humor, you'll be baking everything from Chocolate Potato Cake from the 1910s to Avocado Pie from the 1960s.

Dylan has baked hundreds of recipes from countless antique cookbooks and selected only the best for this bakebook, sharing the shining stars from each decade. And because some of the recipes Dylan shares on his wildly popular social media channels are spectacular failures, he's thrown in a few of the most disastrously strange recipes for you to try if you dare.

A few of Dylan's favorites that are going to have you licking your lips and begging for more include:

- 1900s Cornflake Macaroons
- 1910s ANZAC Biscuits
- 1930s Peanut Butter Bread
- 1940s Chocolate Sauerkraut Cake
- 1950s Tomato Soup Cake
- 1970s Potato Chip Cookies

Baking Yesteryear contains 101 expertly curated recipes that will take you on a delicious journey through the past. With a larger-than-life personality and comedic puns galore, baking with Dylan never gets old. We'll leave that to the recipes.

About the Author

B. Dylan Hollis is a social media personality who has tasked himself with baking and tasting unusual recipes from bygone years. Born and raised on the island of Bermuda, he later attended college at the University of Wyoming to further a career as a jazz pianist and arranger. He stumbled into both baking and social media fame at once in 2020, when quarantine boredom led him to film an investigation of an old cookbook he had collected from an estate sale. Hundreds of recipes later, Dylan now entertains millions across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram with his unique style and fast jokes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun, well formatted book

This is a great recipe book. Not only does it have lots of tasty historical recipes in it but it manages to capture Dylan's natural flair which is so wonderful to see. Having been a fan of his videos for a long time I was anxious to see if his book did his energy on film justice and it does. The book is filled with lots of colour pictures which make it beautiful to look at.The recipes are easy to follow, even for a novice, plus include metric and °C notes for those of us outside of the US who want to try them.As for the recipes themselves they are delicious and cater to a variety of different tastes.(There is also a small handful of the Tiktok famous 'disaster' recipes are included at the back for those of us who want to experience them for ourselves.)I love this book and know that it will be my go-to recipe book from now on.

I remembered many of the recipes from eating similar items in my childhood so this was a bit of an eating retrospective. The "horrid" ones at the end of the book made me laugh, but as the author says, don't try them. I have baked 2 of the other recipes so far.I made one of the cookie recipes using the suggested lard, which I have never purchased before. It was different to butter and I would have liked another recipe in the book to use lard. I found that after a week in storage, the spices in cookies had mellowed and the cookies tasted much better.I also made the oat bread recipe which I think has to be eaten very quickly so that slices remain slices. After a week, the slices were very crumbly and disintegrated very easily. Having said this, it remained absolutely delicious.I would make both recipes again. I cannot wait to bake something else from this book.P.S, I did find something totally different to use the rest of the lard for, so it wasn't wasted.

I have been a fan of B. Dylan Hollis' for a long while now, giggling away while watching his TikTok and FB reels in bed before sleep, so much that the hubby ended up becoming a huge fan as well. Even my two children (2 and 7) love his videos. So this was an insta pre-order for me.As much of a delight he is to watch, he is equally a delight to read. His very distinct tone comes out beautifully in his writing. You can tell he chose his recipes with care. The photos of the dishes are very high quality and beautifully presented. Both the hubby and I have chosen several recipes that we want to try. Having grown up eating Spudnuts doughnuts (potato donut shop in America) I was so excited to see a Potato Doughnut recipe included.EGGIES! FLOOF POWDER!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky and fun

After watching Dylan on both YouTube and TikTok I knew this book was too to be filled with some ‘interesting’ recipes and I wasn’t disappointed. There are some that are definitely questionable and others that will become favourites for their simplicity and reliability. He has definitely made a name for himself trying some recipes that should have stayed in the past and some that we’ve forgotten about because they were delicious. This book is an eye opener into how his mind works and why he chose to include the dozens of recipes. The photography is stunning and it captures his creations beautifully. If you’re interested in stepping back for nostalgic mealtimes this is the book for you. You could quite easily open a few eyes at dinner parties or BBQ’s if you brought any one of these creations as the dessert !!You may be the talk of the event for both the right and wrong reasons depending on what you take!

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting book

Yeah i liked the book loved the idea of unused and unusual recipes, some good recipes but some you just wouldnt make so more for someone that enjoys reading about historical cooking and recipes as a cook book to actually use its ok

5.0 out of 5 stars TikTok genius!

I’ve been watching Dylan’s tiktoks for a while now, so when he brought out a cook book, I had to jump on it. The book is funny, easy to follow, and has great pictures. I made the valentines cream pie for Valentine’s Day, obviously, and my next plan is the chocolate mayonnaise cake.

De los mejores libros de postres estadounidenses

G.T. · 29 October 2024

Well Thought out and Designed!

I've been a fan of Dylan's on TikTok for a long time. He's absolutely entertaining. I love to make wacky recipes (baked tomato soup cake for ages), and I decided to get his cookbook.I was thoroughly impressed with the design, layout and photography! He has obviously taken a lot of time and thought into planning and writing this cookbook. The recipes are organized by decade (and he includes the ones that made him almost throw up on camera in a separate section). I also appreciate the fact that he also includes measurements in grams. Ever since I've been baking by WEIGHT rather than volume, my baking has been absolutely consistent every time.He has beautiful full-page, color photos of some of the recipes and the instructions are perfect and well-organized. If you like to bake "weird but good" recipes, this is the cookbook to buy. I highly recommend it! A+++++++

If you bake, you must have this book

D.R. · 26 August 2024

I have just loved this book. I like to bake. The pictures are super, the recipes a blast from the past and the authors comments a gem. Watch his YouTubes too. The potato chocolate cake is a household favorite. A great gift for people that love food and history of recipes. Also the recipes are not fussy and are straight forward to make for people that are not "gourmet" level.

Geweldig kookboek

Rolig Bok

M. · 16 September 2024

En tictok stjärna som samlar recept i en bok kan det vara något? Boken precis som författaren är charmig och lättsam om man gillar historiska mat och bakverk. Lätt läst men kräver att man kan sina amerikanska mått.
