Excellent enjoyable story.
3.0 out of 5 stars A BIT TEDIOUS
Interesting but lacked any bite.
5.0 out of 5 stars Another cracker
Love these books right up there with Archer. Buying the Churchhill one now :-). He makes all this politics stuff actually believable.
4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Characters, well written.
I thought,by the title it would be about American politics but in fact it was about English. Although a book of fiction it seemed true to life and everything that happened was feasible. I really enjoyed it
2.0 out of 5 stars Where is the e-book
I want to read this but was waiting for the Kindle Edition which has been promised for some time. Now Bolo is saying Pre-order for December 2030. How is this possible given the physical book has been published since 2007? Either a Kindle edition is coming or it isn’t?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fact or Fiction?
If only the members of the current British Government had read this wonderful political novel, written with all the devilish inside knowledge that Michael Dobbs so wonderfully imparts, then maybe they would not be embroiled in the current political scandal they find themselves in with regard to political donations!A true master at work. Ginny Edge is a true disciple of Elizabeth Urquhart. If you loved THE HOUSE OF CARDS trilogy then you will love this!
3.0 out of 5 stars Implausible
A book I read thanks to a hotel library, and while it passed the time well enough it was totally implausible, but that's fiction for you. When you compare this to House of Cards it's nowhere near as good - but then again not many political thrillers are as good as House of Cards. I just couldn't get past the implausibility of it all, how a wife of a middle ranking but idealistic MP becomes an arch manipulator to rival Machiavelli thanks to gossip in the gym, a friend she makes in central office who hooks her in to the gay secret service and several astounding lucky breaks. If you stop to think about it it's as full of holes as a swiss cheese and I got the feeling that Mr Dobbs either had his tongue firmly in his cheek while writing this or his publishers asked him to write a novel Americans could understand, as the term First Lady referring to the leaders wife isn't something used in this country - as we have a Queen who is always the first lady.
Four Stars
Loved the book though too many British axioms that I had to look up.
