4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book.
Really lovely book from well respected fisherman Henry Gilbey, filled with gorgeous photography and interesting fishing travel stories from around the world. Bought as a birthday present for an obsessive fisherman who was delighted with it. The book is in paperback and would be lovely in Hardback too. Arrived in perfect condition after being well packaged by Bolo. Arrived quickly too.
5.0 out of 5 stars 9 down, 91 to go!
I just received my copy. As a fellow fishing, travel and photography junkie I loved it. Some amazing photos with ideas of places to fish from around the world. And I was with Henry when he took the cover shot - in Outer Mongolia. The only trouble is seeing all those incredible fish in incredible places, it's tough to know where to start. Henry has added some useful - and honest - notes to help you decide. I have 9 of the 100 places down; many booked though Aardvark McLeod, and have the Seychelles on my list for next year.A great pressie for your significant other if he (or she) doesn't know where to start, or where to go next. Highly recommended.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for long winter nights and Lotto winners.
Cheered me up reading this, even though I know I will never get to fish most of the places in this book.Even my "better half" who hates fishing loved flicking through the fantastic photographs.I would recommend it to dreamers like me and the well heeled looking for ideas and inspiration. Well done to the Author, and at the price of a couple of fishing magazines.
5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate in Fishing Adventures
A stunning book and that's just what I expected from Henry. The photographs of the fishing locations are simply amazing and would whet the appetite of any angler. Some of the locations I've been to and have great memories of and others that I now want to go to. Thanks Henry great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb.
This was a present for a very keen Angler. Loved it!
3.0 out of 5 stars A book for the armchair travellingf angler
A book to browse through, perhaps for inspiration though I suspect that serious anglers will do their research elsewhere. It does contain some stunning pictures and is probably worth buying for that alone.
The Best Destination-Angling Book Available! (But not a coffee table book)
Putting together a world-encompassing collection of destination angling adventures cannot be an easy task. For starters, only a tiny percentage of anglers have the skills necessary to successfully pursue the full menu of gamefish available. Fewer still fully appreciate the full range of fish species themselves. Henry Gilbey has these attributes. In Ultimate Fishing Adventures: 100 Extraordinary Fishing Experiences from Around the World, Gilbey pays due respect to the glamor species familiar to all, among them marlin, trout, Atlantic and Pacific salmon, tarpon and bonefish. He also includes lesser known species such as Nile perch, barramundi, taimen, Japanese sea bass, and sheefish. But one aspect of his book that is truly refreshing is his inclusion of trophy carp, less glitzy ocean species such as wrass, conger eels, coalfish, pollack and cod, and a species that has long been on my "to catch" list, European barbel. Overall, the book presents a nice balance of salt and freshwater species, and the venues are fairly evenly cast across the globe (though some will argue that Gilbey's love of his home waters in Ireland results in a somewhat disproportionate nod in that direction. In my book, he's forgiven; Ireland offers incredibly diverse angling opportunities set against beautiful countryside). So why four stars rather than five? Three reasons: 1) How did the editors at Wiley Nautical let this book go to print without an index? The oversight (or laziness, or whatever it was) is ridiculous in a 200+ page book of this kind. 2) One sometimes has to dig to figure out what fish are being targeted. The chapter titles state only the locale, and although each two-page chapter has a handy sidebar listing best seasons, fishing methods, and travel and fishing tips, it doesn't state which species are available. It should. 3) Each chapter is highlighted by a lovely photo, but only 36 of those photos feature an identifiable fish. Most who read this book will wish more of the photos showed fish. All that aside, the only book that seriously competes with Ultimate Fishing Adventures is A.J. McClane's Game Fish of North America - a volume now nearly 30 years old and which focuses only on North America. If you're also looking at Chris Santella's Fifty Places to Fly Fish Before You Die, go with Gilbey's Ultimate Fishing Adventures first. He knows his subject better. Incidentally, although Bolo describes this as a "coffee table" book, at 10" x 7 3/4" (25cm x 20cm) its size is unremarkable.
The part about Europe is too small
I got this book because I am looking for some new fishing destinations and because I need some ideas for next year.Well, there is a lot of good and practical information in it, but it looks like Europe is only about Ireland and UK. OK, there is a small part about Scandinavia and Europe. But surely not enough.
