5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent companion book
I am an analogue/digital/software design engineer with over 50 years experience in these fields. I have worked with just about every type of processing device on the planet, both with high level languages and assembler level.I am a self-confessed tech-head, and when I retired I looked around for something to keep the old grey cells active and enable me to develop some of the ideas I've had over the years but little spare time to devote to them whilst working.EUREKA! Enter the Fabulous Arduino family. No matter how much experience one has, there is no shame in seeking advice from others when something new and unfamiliar turns up.I spent a while surfing the Web trying to get inside this new thing, and discover a familiar baseline. Unfortunately, a lot of what I read was written as 'beginner's guides', with little exposure to what was 'under the hood'. What I needed was an introductory book with some substance, so that I could accelerate in the various familiar directions I needed to go.I found that in Simon's 'Next Steps' book. This was perfect for me as I was able to 'read between the lines' using my former experience where necessary, and take on board lots of well written technical detail on subjects like IoT, Networking, I2C, WiFi, and creating Libraries - which are relative new technologies for me. The chapter on getting the sketches to run faster was very informative, as was descriptions of Arduino variants and compatible non-Arduino products like the minute ATtiny and very fast 32bit dual-processor boards.Overall, this book makes a great engineering companion. I am probably going to get the Kindle version too, to make it easy to search for keywords.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to Arduino programming
Very good book, well written and easy to follow. The books in this series are, so far, the best I've found.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great for quick no-nonsense applications..........designed for stimulation!
This book gives excellent examples for applications , not, in depth excursions into the depths of ,say, an "Eclipse C++ GUI with the multitudes of pitfalls for the uninitiated! This Book is all about quick simple applications for temperature sensors , connecting to Wi Fi, I2C and SPI devices,No pretension here then, just down to earth examples of connecting off the shelf LED's , motors et al to your PC. This book is designed to stimulate from the start!
5.0 out of 5 stars Book tech
Easy to use, accurately described
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I was actually after a reference guide to Arduino C... this isn't it!! However it's packed full of interesting infrmation about all things Arduino. Saving memory and speeding up processing. Not a beginners book, but loads of stuff for more advanced users. As for a reference for C.... look on line!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely written and very informative
This seems like a well written and informative book.I recommend it 😀
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent as a desk top reference
I did not need a tutorial on Arduino. I wanted this a reference book rather than having to keep searching the web. This fits the bill well and is a nice compact size.
3.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but doesn't add a huge amount more to the (excellent) first book
I had already bought 'Getting Started with Sketches' by Simon Monk - which is excellent, at the perfect pace for a novice coder like me, so I bought this one to complement it and take the coding a bit further. Unfortunately there is quite a bit of repetition and he has tried to squeeze too much in, so there isn't enough detail to make many of the chapters very useful. It feels like another introduction, and he would have done better to have fewer topics but more detail and issue a 3rd book in the series. A shame as the first book is an excellent primer for Arduino.
Fascinating Topics for expanding Arduino knowledge.
Since this is not a beginner's book, it was written with concrete examples and concise explanations without having to explain the basics of programming. I learned a lot about how devices are interfaced. Not just make these connections and copy this code like so many other books.
Succinct and clear explanations.
Well organized chaptors and material.
