FT.Warner Hussein: Finance Book 2e: Understand the numbers even if you're not a finance professional

Description:

About this item:

THE KNOWLEDGE AND TOOLS EVERY PROFESSIONAL NEEDS, TO MAKE BETTER FINANCIAL AND BUSINESS DECISIONS.

Why this book is different to other finance books:
• Quick and easy to use
• Spotlights “what you need to know”
• Requires no prior finance knowledge
• Practical and real-world focus
• Written by practitioners

No knowledge requiredThe book is purposefully designed to be quick and easy to use with no previous knowledge required to comprehend the concepts. We “tell you what you need to know” to quickly “get up to speed” in core finance concepts.A key feature of this book is that you do not have read it from cover to cover to make sense of finance. Each chapter is written as a “standalone” topic. This enables you to dip in and dip out of chapters. Further, we have taken otherwise complex topics and broken them down into key concepts that are explained in concise, easy to read sections.Practitioners not academicsWhilst not an academic book, it is also not a “simplistic” book. It is a practical book because it has been written by practitioners. We include throughout this book our first-hand personal experiences gained from working in businesses across many industries and sectors, rather than replicating knowledge from academia. In addition, the authors have spent countless hours instructing, teaching and training thousands of professionals from disciplines including marketing, sales, production, administration, HR and legal.Focused on business applicationThe overwhelming majority of finance books available are better suited to trainee accountants because they take an academic approach to finance. Whilst necessary for accountants, they immerse the reader in the “detail”.The Finance Book is written for non-finance people like you. It is aimed at those who work or aspire to work in business. It will help professionals in business or thinking about a career in business including board directors, business managers, MBA students, graduates and undergraduates.Your book, your journeyTo make the book easy to read, we have used a consistent format across chapters. Within each chapter there are multiple cross references (and links) to other relevant chapters as they occur. This will enable you to review chapters and make connections relevant to you. Allow your curiosity to determine your path through the book.THE KNOWLEDGE AND TOOLS EVERY PROFESSIONAL NEEDS, TO MAKE BETTER DECISIONS FOR THEIR BUSINESS

Review

The Finance Book is a practical guide that deciphers finance and will transform your financial awareness and confidence. A must read that will become your go to finance Rosetta Stone.' Jonathan Levy, ICAEW Director, Product Development

‘This book is different. It is neither traditional finance nor traditional accounting. It does not attempt to provide a theoretical foundation for the subject but offers nuggets of practical wisdom in a way that distils the authors' decades of experience in the field.' Emeritus Professor Robert Cressy, University of Birmingham, UK

‘A refreshingly easy ‘pick up and read' book, providing straightforward explanations of potentially complex terms and aspects of finance. A key read for those seeking to understand the fundamentals of finance.' Shirley Fyfe, Lead Facilitator and Trainer, Director, Kinsbourne Consulting Limited

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, highly recommended Finance book for non-finance people

Do I want to be an accountant, Finance director No. Do I want to add more value, understand why, question more, and get my head around the numbers yes!If you have ever found yourself nodding along or ducking the finance section of a meeting or thinking, I’ll leave this to the finance team and take their word for it, this book is for you.A must read for any director, manager, or aspiring student. The authors take the bemusing language of finance and translate it, plain and simple with real-world examples and insights, that you can start applying straight away. After reading this I have a better handle on P&L, balance sheet and cashflow, the impact of OpEx vs CapEx, accruals, depreciation, tangible intangible assets, liabilities, debt vs equity and cash is most definitely not the same as profit! An enjoyable and interesting read, I’ve changed…

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and detailed while remaining accessible for a non-expert

M.T. · 28 August 2024

The content was accessible without being dumbed down, which is a difficult balance to strike, but what jumped out at me – and why I’m so fascinated by a topic that many find dry – is the amount of leeway leaders have to tell the story they want to tell. This book not only gives you a solid grounding in the the core concepts, but also explains the choices leaders have and gives concrete examples to bring the content to life. Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An insight into Finance by a truly passionate author

V.K. · 27 November 2023

Stuart is one of the most passionate finance people I have come across who can spend hours discussing the nuances of business plans and financial statements. This passion shines through in his book. As a financial professional, the chapters in this book are like nuggets of information, perfect for a bite-size reading. The book also has a lot for people with non-financial background, simplifying and demystifying the world of cash flows and balance sheets. A great book to have in the library for reference in times of need.

For a person who does not work in a finance role, this is great in enhancing the understanding behind principles. It takes concepts and makes it relatable and understandable for an average professional or just someone keen to understand a little more on finance. Would absolutely recommend as an educational tool or for the curious learner

This is a fantastic guide to the world of finance aimed at non-finance professionals. It demystifies the topic, removing the barriers to understanding and bringing it to life in such a practical way. It is easy to read and pick-up relevant sections where needed so you can dip in and out. For me, this is a must-have for any non-finance executive or non-executive looking to deepen their understanding of accounting and improve their ability to make sense of financial information. I also love the fact that it makes the topic interesting and appealing for a wide range of audiences. I can honestly say this book has transformed my knowledge of finance. Congratulations to Stuart and Si.

As someone with no formal training in financial concepts, this has been a revelation. Incredibly well-written; the concepts are explained using clear language and make for an easy and informative read that is easy to digest in spells, or to refer back to in time. Highly recommended!
