3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK
This is a little pricy I think. It is a book which has thick board-like pages and there are pictures on the page and then part of the picture looks "blank". The idea is that you till the pen with water, colour over the blank area and a picture will be revealed...Only the "blank" area clearly shows what picture will be revealed, it's just a bit faded and then when the water touches it the bright colours come out. So that's a nice effect but it isn't a surprise as to what the picture is! So that's a shame.Overall it's quite a fun toy and you can take this on holiday to keep your children entertained on the journey, but it won't entertain for long really. My daughter wasn't kept interested by this as it didn't feel exciting, there was no element of a surprise reveal. So quite fun but could be better.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, aimed at very young children
In a nutshell:Things I liked:+ Nice board book for very young children. I'd say it would suit children aged around about two to three years old who are interested in Pokemon.+ It's colour themed. For example, there are some Pokemon with specific features such as red cheeks, green arms and legs or a yellow body. All the pictures that will be revealed using the pen are themed around that specific colour.+ The water pen itself works very well. It's easy to fill with water and each page has around 3 to 6 things that appear white but their true colour will emerge when you apply the water from the pen.+ As it has a water pen, it's interactive. The pen itself is very easy for children as young as 2 to hold, which I think is an important feature given that it's aimed at children of that age. It's also very low mess - the water doesn't come out of the pen particularly quickly and it is only water after all!+ The drawings appear to be younger, cuter versions of Pokemon rather than the traditional art style. Again, very clearly aimed at toddlers.Things I didn't like:- Nothing really. It may not hold a child's attention for particularly long (like any "what's the colour" board book, really) but the water pen feature is fun, particularly for younger children.Do I recommend it?Yes, but be aware of the age that this is aimed at. If your child is (I would say) 4 years old or over, this may well be a little young for them. The 2 to 4 age range is just about perfect.
