5.0 out of 5 stars Would highly recommend
Such great books, I have a son in year 11 taking his GCSE’s and a son in year 9 and these books are great for both of them, my younger son uses them to help him with homework and my old son uses them for practice exam questions and revision
5.0 out of 5 stars Great investment for the exams
I got this book for my daughter who is about to start her Combined Science GCSEs and she was delighted with this book. It seems very well laid out and is broken down into different areas.Unlike a conventional text book it is very much focussed on working towards improving your grade in the exam and condensing some of the material covered over the course of two years into bite-sized pieces which break down the different areas into the key facts. The reader is pushed with questions throughout the book, and there is a full exam to take an the end of the volume. If you understand a subject it's far easier to answer questions (or at least have a good guess) than parrot learn answers. This is a book which is well worth the investment and can only improve your score when it comes to the exams. It's also work flicking through every few weeks in Years 10 and 11 as you work through the curiculum to ensure the stuff you have learned is firmly embedded in your long-term memory.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
This is a fantastic revision guide for the AQA Foundation Combined Science GCSE course. Clear layout, lots of questions to work through. Very thorough. Highly recommended. This is so much more than a revision guide - this is a work book ideal for use through the course. Great for teachers as well as students. Highly recommended.
4.0 out of 5 stars Packed with information and questions
This is a hefty book which is divided into three sections for biology, chemistry and physics. Each section covers a large range of topics. Each topic gets a "knowledge" section, which is a page or two of revision notes, a "retrieval" section, which contains some self-test quick questions (to be done in your head), and a "practice" section, which includes longer exam-style questions (with space to write the answers into the book). The amount knowledge section would not be sufficient to self-teach a completely new topic, but provides plenty of detail for revising and for catching up on bits you may have not fully understood when taught in class. The questions are well laid out and easy to follow.Working through the whole book will take discipline, but would stand you in very good stead for the combined science GCSE.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent revision guide
This is a very chunky (400+ pages) revision guide. I love the way this guide is laid out. Each topic has a couple of pages titled 'Knowledge'. In this section, you get a brief overview of the topic and there are plenty of illustrations and flowcharts to help you revise. You then get a couple of pages titled 'Retrieval' and these contain practice questions and answers as well as some practical tests. Finally, there are a few pages of exam-style questions. I really like this layout because it makes it easy to revise just one topic from start to finish if you only have limited time. You also don't need to work through the topics in order. There are tips and advice scattered throughout the book.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great aid
This is larger than the usual revision books with a larger "knowledge" section that introduces and recaps the subject followed by retrieval and questions to test the knowledgeThe three main subjects are covered in different areas of the book with sub-topics and it's got an easy to follow layout and a test exam a the endThere is plenty of advise and tips in the book and we think it is a great aid for the exams
5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic.
Fantastic. Clearly structured and provides enough detail for the student to remember, without being over-simplistic. It is designed in a way it can be broken down into more manageable sections/sessions and a realistic study timetable can be scheduled and achieved.
