5.0 out of 5 stars moving wisdom

I have bought numerous copies of this book. Time and again I feel that reading this is exactly what a particular friend needs. We all know what happens to a lent book, perhaps 3 times out of 5 it comes back. So when it comes to wanting to lend it and I find both my copies are out... I buy another. That's how good it is.What I like so much about this book is that profound issues are dealt with totally from actual experience and without lecturing in any way. The numerous three page stories of crunch points, turning points in individual live's fill me with wonder, hope, insight, courage and joy. Surely if we look at life as this author does we can make the best of this difficult issue, of being Human.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wisdom of the Heart

I loved the way this courageous woman went ahead with her book writing despite her uncertainties. She shares many wonderful stories that have brought wisdom, understanding of what it means to be truly human and open to new experience. I was very moved by her account of meeting Carl Rogers who demonstrated the power of listening with unconditional positive regard to a fellow doctor. This is a wonderful book that I recommend most highly.5 star rating.

Short doses of wisdom, each relevant to daily living. Beautifully written and from the heart sharing the best attributes to human kind. Most helpful if read daily as an aid to negotiating our way through the peaks and troughs of life. Ours is on the kitchen table for all to browse, food for thought whilst supping tea...and cake!

This book is full of inspirational stories. I particularly liked the chapter on Judgement. I reviewed this as a review when I was applying for university and it inspired me to get this book. There is a lot of food for thought in this chapter as well as the whole book. It will help us to live well. Thank you Rachel for sharing knowledge. One that I will hold on to for ever. Words really heal. Be blessed.

I love this book. I bought it because a couple of the passages have been included on my mindfulness based stress reduction course and were very powerful to me.I'm so glad I bought it. Every page offers inspiration and hope.Especially good if you know someone with cancer. I have found comfort in the pages and now know that sitting with my mum last year at the end of her life was more important than I realised at the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my favourite books

The richness of the writing, yet so simple. The experiences, thoughts and reflections it contains are hugely valuable. As a humanist doctor this was an invaluable read. For humans everywhere this is essential "dipping in" book, to enrich us and help us through good and bad times about what simple things help, life's quirks expressions of meaning yet without being preachy authoritarian or schmulzy. I am so glad I came across this book.

Breathtaking book

Every so often I read a book that touches my soul so deeply that I just want to tell everyone I know about it. This is one such book. The combination of exquisite writing and profound ideas moved me, and I was so happy to see that Dr. Remen has another similar work. This book is an ode to medicine, spirituality, healing, suffering, humility, and humanity. As a Jewish woman, it's especially meaningful to me; I love seeing treasures from my own heritage framed and gifted in such a universalist, accessible way.

Stories that heal

One of the most healing books I've ever read. If you are a healthcare professional, Rachel Remen's book is a must. The power of life in every word will help you to keep on walking. If you (like me) are not a healthcare professional, this book will still fill you with a great sense of connectedness to humankind.
