Anatomy Of The Voice: An Illustrated Guide for Singers, Vocal Coaches, and Speech Therapists

Description:

About this item:

The first comprehensive, fully-illustrated approach to the voice that explains the anatomy and mechanics in detailed yet down-to-earth terms, for voice users and professionals of all kinds

This book is the first to explain, in clear and concise language, the anatomy and mechanics of the mysterious and complex bodily system we call the voice. Beautifully illustrated with more than 100 detailed images, Anatomy of the Voice guides voice teachers and students, vocal coaches, professional singers and actors, and anyone interested in the voice through the complex landscape of breathing, larynx, throat, face, and jaw. Theodore Dimon, an internationally recognized authority on the subject, as well as an expert in the Alexander Technique, makes unfamiliar terrain accessible and digestible by describing each vocal system in short, manageable sections and explaining complex terminology. The topics he covers include ribs, diaphragm, and muscles of breathing; the intrinsic musculature of the larynx, its structure and action; the suspensory muscles of the throat; the face and jaw; the tongue and palate; and the evolution and function of the larynx.

I teach singing and I think that the more a singer knows about how the vocal mechanism works the better. This book, with its excellent illustrations, is a great resource for singers and their teachers

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for the nerdier singing teacher. ;)

Excellent. I am a singing teacher and knowing about the anatomy in more depth has complimented my teaching. The pictures are very helpful and the information is very current.

4.0 out of 5 stars Generally an alright reference book

Nothing massively breakthrough in this book but useful nonetheless to help visualise the process of singing, which in turn helps cement technique already in use. Was also useful for young singers as they transition to teaching/professional standard as it also supports learning of technical vocabulary

5.0 out of 5 stars Great illustrations. Makes a complex subject easier to learn.

Great illustrations. Makes a complex subject easier to learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic anatomy for singers

W. · 14 September 2018

Very good, and has all that you would ever need to know if you are a teacher of singers. I would, however, recommend his other and earlier book more so for students as being all round better buy as it is more general with again more than enough anatomy in it for students to know what happens - you're not trying to become a surgeon! The book is called Your Body, Your Voice.
