"...an art lover's dream come true--a collection of nearly 2,000 images that includes every painting and fresco on display in the Uffizi, the Galleria Palatina of the Pitti Palace, the Accademia and the Duomo, and works from 28 additional museums and churches....It's fascinating to see these treasures of the Western world collected in one volume, with page after page of magnificence, including the works of Uccello, da Vinci, Correggio, Titian, Michelangelo and more. 5.0 out of 5 stars Florence art works beautifully presented

A.C. · 31 October 2024

Wow, this is an amazing book, representing works in all the major galleries of Florence. It is a serious and weighty collection of magnificent paintings and accompanying texts. Beautifully assembled, and even though some of the pictures are a little small this is more than compensated for by the larger (some 2 page) illustrations. Purchased as a gift for an art loving couple who are visiting Florence for Christmas. This will be an early present for them, and I'm sure they will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Up There With The Louve Book

D. · 2 June 2018

I have acquired The Louve, Vatican and the above. However, regardless how much I love art I am not foolish enough to pay over £70 for The Prado. ( plus, my wife would cut them off )Florence is an absolutely amazing book. I admit you could go back and forward to the Louve and still not cover it but you might see the works your looking for. Now this is were the books are totally different.Florence has its five main museums, obviously the great Uffizi but also twenty-eight additional museums and churches. I am not going to list the Artist's here but they obviously cover Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Titian Caravaggio and a great deal more. Even painters that are not that well known. Artist's that sent me over to an encyclopaedia for even more information on them because some of the work is beautiful. So, to sum this book up you have 2,000 painted works from all the notable art institutions.( Now I Cannot Be Wrong......Because I Read It At The Back Of The Bloody Box!)But seriously. This is a very very beautiful book which should give you many many days to study and also read. But again the same old adage applies: where are you going to put it. Florence weighs over 4Kg, not as bad as Michelangelo's book just over 5Kg but also hard to find a home for, hard to move and a definite broken toe if dropped on the foot ) " But Good Heavens Worth It "Plus like me, you might want Florence, Louve, Vatican, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci and a load of beautiful Taschen's.( For some reason I am not very popular in my house )Beautiful Book and Very well packaged by Bolo. Looked after as if it was there own. Great care was taken so if the box took a bash she will be o.kTHANK YOU Bolo.DBS x

5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S FLORENCE AND PAINTINGS

C. · 18 February 2023

Coffee table book that lives up to the positive reviews. Excellent paper, first class prints of the paintings and a mine of info in print. If you love the renassiance but can't get to Florence then this is probably the next best thing.Link this book with the "Chapel of the Magi" by C Luchinat and deep joy will result despite empty pockets. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice for Florence Art lovers...

A.V. · 2 December 2017

Everything that other reviewers mentioned is true. It is a well written book with a lot of material about the most important museums and churches of Florence presented in chronological order. A small minus is the relation of the descriptions to the specific pictures not being done in the most reader friendly way but this is not enough in my opinion to deduct a star from the review. It's a book very worth having if someone is interested in Florence Art.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Renaissance Must in your library

G.T. · 25 July 2019

It is the best book for Florence, as far as I know, and Firinze' 'school of the world' extremely informative as to the foundations, links and development of visual arts at the centre of Renaissance in Italy, starting from earlier centuries, 12th to the 17th. A must in your library

Amazing Reference

This is a beautiful book with historical information about the artists and their patrons. There and numerous color prints and a well organized index.

Beautiful book to enjoy all the art of Florence

T. · 15 August 2024

This book is a beauty to look at and handle, and the box it comes in will keep it safe while still displaying the great cover art. We bought this after a trip to Florence and get to enjoy the art we saw and even more that we missed.

Espectacular!

Excellent overview

D.c. · 22 April 2023

This book is excellent for the art lover. Its scope is huge and very specific. Paintings and frescos. Florence. 1250-1743. So don’t complain about the dearth of sculpture; if sculpture is in the book, it’s there to illustrate a further detail. The book itself is very well printed and bound; the case, to protect the spine, is also well-made. A corner of mine was very slightly damaged in shipping but that is not germane to its task of supporting the book when closed and standing on a shelf. No skin off my nose.Ross King knows his onions (had to say it!) and the text is interesting and informative, if somewhat limited. I would peg this book for the already reasonably well-informed reader that is looking for a place to start new areas of interest. By this I mean that there isn’t a chapter devoted to, for example, Botticelli’s Spring or the Birth of Venus: one can find whole books on this specific topic. No, the book takes one to new areas and hopefully new artists and works that one hasn’t already seen that are related.A number of other reviewers have taken exception to the ‘thumbnails’ of many of the details. Well, yes and no. The sheer volume of the paintings and frescos in Florence under the time described by this book could fill endless enormous volumes. The thumbnails show the reader what it is and give enough information in the description to find it online, where one can enlarge it.Really, the only niggle from me is that the indexes are not great. I tried to find (Paolo) Uccello’s painting of the Battle of San Romano. I couldn’t find the painter but found the painting. On a further search, I found the painter under ‘P’ for Paolo. Hmm. Why this painter was under his first (not particularly well-known) first name, instead of his (well-known) surname, I don’t understand. A mistake? Probably. Also, it is the nature of the beast that certain paintings might have multiple titles, which could make it problematic to find a specific painting. One example: Gozzoli’s Journey of the Magi is listed as Procession of the Magi, a title I’ve not seen used but, god only knows, I don’t know everything! But it’s not worth taking off a star. Ok, I’ll have to work a bit harder; big deal.Anyway, the book is huge, comprehensive, and beautiful. I can’t wait to get really stuck in!

Maravilhosa Obra

O livro mais lindo que eu já compre! Bem acabado, é riquíssimo em detalhes e a capa dura é perfeita.Atendeu a todas as minhas expectativas de admiradora de arte renascentista.
