Re-Writing Christmas: A Small Town Holiday Romance (Oakwood Lane)

Description:

About this item:

When Nova McKay visits her elderly neighbour for some festive treats, she gets a little more than she bargained for...

Renowned travel blogger, Donovan Cain, has been forced to return to England for the first time in ten years to spend some time with his recently widowed grandmother. It isn't long before Nova realises that Donovan is actually "little Donnie", the boy she played with during her childhood Christmases, when his family visited town for the holidays. From the pint-sized kid he used to be, he's now, tall, broad, and all kinds of attractive.

However, in the twenty years since they last saw each other, the fun-loving child Nova used to know has hardened into a cynical adult. Unwilling to deal with his self-centred attitude towards his grieving grandma and having his travel plans scuppered, Nova sets out to remind Donovan that small-town life isn't the drag he's making it out to be.

Will she be able to melt his cold heart, or will he walk away leaving Nova's Christmas memories tainted forever?

***
Re-Writing Christmas is a standalone small-town friends to lovers holiday romance set in England (UK). It has elements of hurt/comfort and grumpy/sunshine, along with a feisty grandmother, and large amounts of Hallmark-esque festive cuteness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such A Heart Warmer!

What can I say…. But ohhhh. Usually I am a hardened crime/thriller reader. I saw his and being a lover of all things Christmas, decided to give it a go. I am so glad I did. The main characters, Nova and Donovan are exciting to immerse yourself into with all the Christmas feels. A will they won’t they romance your cheer for. With the added extra of the most endearing, straight talking Grandma, June, who had a story to tell all of her own. You cannot help but fall in love with her. I was invested from the start! Highly recommend… even if you’re a hardened crime reader!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely read with all the feels

If you're looking for something to give you that warm and fuzzy Christmassy feeling, then this book is perfect for you. The characters are believable and the whole story very relatable. I think my favourite character was the old lady next door :D she reminded me of my friends mum.I love that the story is set in the little town of Dawlish, somewhere I visited as a child and I love stories set in places that I can remember, because, in stories like this I like to imagine the characters in places that are familiar. Kyra definitely makes me want to visit Dawlish again and take a look at all the places that the characters visited in the book.It takes a special kind of author to wrap such a lovely and believable story around such a simple concept :) and this book isn't just for Christmas, read it any time for that festive feel x

5.0 out of 5 stars Real emotions, heart-melting romance, and heart-warming festive feels.

If you've read any of Kyra's books, you will know at their heart, they're always about real people, with real feelings. Even if you haven't been in the exact situation yourself, you can still relate to it perfectly.Kyra writes human emotions in a way that is completely encapsulating. This story deals with both an older woman dealing with her first Christmas without her beloved husband, and two childhood friends being reunited, one of whom carries a lot of baggage to sort through.Through these characters, you get an in-depth look at grief, but also the power community has, the magic of Christmas, and that first feeling of falling in love. There are so many swoony, melty moments I lost count, but I especially enjoyed the male MC speaking Italian to the female MC. And the flirty, playful banter between Nova and Donovan was terrific.Something I wasn't expecting in this story, and was blown away by, was how Kyra featured her hometown of Dawlish, Devon. In many ways, this is a love letter to Dawlish and you can see how important the seaside town Kyra grew up in is to her. The places and people were perfectly described so that you actually felt like you were living through each moment with Nova and Donovan. All in all, a fantastic book, with lots of real emotions, heart-melting romance, and heart-warming festive feels.

3 1/2 stars. I'm very new to the genre having only started reading romance this year and often not a fan of cutesy reads, but I enjoyed this little Xmas story. The characters are fun and relatable, there's good banter and an iconic character in the male MCs nan. Definitely got me in the Xmas spirit!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Christmas story

C.B. · 14 December 2023

I was lucky enough to beta for this book, and it really helped me to get into the Christmas spirit, living vicariously through Nova and Donovan as they reconnected.Nova's positivity and love for those around her are exactly what draws Donovan to her, as much as he tries to resist initially. She's infectious and I found myself smiling my way through the book, even when things got a little hairy between them. This is a lovely small town Christmas story that will get you in the mood for the festive season. Would definitely recommend.

I had the absolute pleasure of getting the chance to read this story early.I was hooked from the beginning.Packed full of the magic of Christmas and a small-town romance, it was a delight to watch Nova and Donovan on their journey as they fell for each other. There were so many moments that just made my heart melt.I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christmas Romances, with festive magic and two characters that just connect with each other.
