Review:
As I have been building my permaculture nursery I have been pondering how to encourage people to start
gardening; even if they don't have a yard. This book is the answer! This is an easy read with how well
written it is yet has enough information that I would love to use it as the textbook for a small/container
gardening course.
This is an easy book to recommend and will be the first book for sale in my nursery.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book to have for reference
As an RHS L2 qualified horticulturaliet I would happily recommend this book to anyone interested in starting their own container garden. There's a lot of excellent information given without feeling like you're being overwhelmed with jargon and Sophie will take you step by step through choosing suitable containers, growing media and watering methodes right through to sowing (not as easy as you'd think to get a good germination rate), which plants to choose and managing your garden while it's growing.Sophie even goes that bit further by showing you how to save seed and why you should do so, she even includes some recipes to try out with your newly harvested treasures along with preserving methods.Overall a great book to have on the bookcase

5.0 out of 5 stars The best diy gardening book
I loved Successful Container Gardening! The expert advice and DIY methods were so helpful for creating a thriving container garden. The illustrations are also lovely and hand-drawn, adding a nice touch to the book. Highly recommend for any gardener, whether you're a beginner or experienced.
4.0 out of 5 stars A must for the beginner.
I’m not the best gardener in fact I’d go so far as to say that I am absolutely dreadful. I have tried many times to grow my own vegetables but failed miserably. This is one of the easier Gardening Books that I have bought and trust me I have quite the collection. Some I have purchased myself some I received as gifts and others given to me by friends and neighbours. I am still climbing the learning curve but thankfully things are coming together better in my mind with the help of Sophie McKay’s book “Beginners guide to successful container gardening. Grow your own food in small places. I hope it will be as helpful to you as it has been for me.
5.0 out of 5 stars The only book you’ll ever need!!
The Beginner’s Guide to Successful Container Gardening is the only book you’ll ever need, whether you’re an avid gardener or like me, starting out for the first time. To grow and harvest your own delicious, organic food, whether you aim to produce a selection of herbs, salad leaves and tomatoes or plan to become self-sufficient, is an absolute joy.Sophie covers absolutely everything you need to know for guaranteed success - whether you have a tiny outdoor space, patio area, balcony or even just a windowsill - producing something delicious to eat is possible. Her book is a delight to read and beautifully illustrated. Apart from ideas to make the best use of your space and everyday objects in which to grow your food, there are sections covering sowing/saving seeds, creating and enriching your own soil, companion planting, watering, fertilising and pest control - all using natural, non-toxic methods; succession planting to ensure continuous and seasonal supply, harvesting and preserving what you don’t use for long term storage. Oh…and also some of Sophie’s own recipes! Personally, I cannot wait to just walk out my back door, pick something tasty for lunch, and enjoy in the sunshine whilst reading a good book! Huge thanks Sophie for this fabulous book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all novice gardeners
I love love this book. I am a complete novice when it comes to gardening. I bought Sophie's earlier book The Practical Permaculture Project and this is a great extension of that. For anyone who does not have land but wants the joy and benefits of growing their own vegetables and flowers, this book is for you. Sophie has a great talent for explaining things in simple language with easy-to-follow instructions.
A Great Resource for Container Gardening
The book has a wealth of information and ideas to try with great illustrations. I like that it included reusing things like reusable grocery bags instead of buying pots!
A fresh look at harvesting food from smaller spaces
Reading this book on container gardening is making me excited to get out and try some of the things I have learned. I have a small raised bed garden and for the past couple of years I have been disappointed with my harvest. This book has inspired me to expand to other areas of my yard and grow vegetables and herbs, utilizing the smaller spaces I have with available sun. The book covers so many topics including soil amendment (which I expect will improve my existing raised bed for a better harvest this year), how to maximize space, principles of permaculture, composting, watering and fertilizing. In addition there is lots of information on seed selection, starting plants from seed, harvesting, seed saving, preserving your harvest, and so much more. Packed with lots of ideas and helpful hints, this will be my go to manual as I come into my favorite time of year of planning, planting and getting back to nature in my garden. Thank you Sophie for sharing your gardening wisdom.
