5.0 out of 5 stars Best sock book ever!
I had knitted socks before buying this book but limited myself to easier patterns. This book has so much choice that can stretch myself when/if I want. Excellent value.
5.0 out of 5 stars Feet glorious feet
Fantastic patterns. Lots for any type of knitter would recommend this to any knitter. Good buy
5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous book
A book full of the history of Selbu knitting and an amazing amount of different patterns which can be used for mittens or other colour work knitting. Well worth buying and would thoroughly recommend.
4.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully presented book for experienced sock knitters
This is a lovely book with lots of choice for special socks. It's not for the newbie sock knitter or those for whom socks are things to chuck in the washing machine. The only downside is that there is no e-copy for download upload into Ravelry library and apps
5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas present
Got this book for my mum for Christmas last year and she loved it, still waiting for my socks to ge knitted though…!

Best Book of Socks Ever
I will start with the least favorite thing about the book, the photos. Considering this is a huge collection of some of the best looking, well written patterns, the photos don't come close to doing this collection justice. Ravelry comes to the rescue though. If you use Ravelry, you can search for the book title under the "patterns" link and then open the projects page for the book. There you will see all 52 of the sock patterns. Just start clicking the links for each sock and you can find all the socks that members of Ravelry knitted from these patterns. This is a great way to not only see how beautiful the pattern really is, but get ideas for the specific yarns and colors that show off each pattern to the best effect. I always check Ravelry before knitting a pattern, it's a wealth of information from knitters who already knitted the same pattern along with all their photos to inspire and lead you to the best yarns to use for any particular pattern.I hesitate to write a review prior to finishing a pattern from the book but I am such an avid sock knitter and have knitted every version of toe, heel, and cuff, that it's easy for me to read through a pattern to see if it's well written. I have read most of the book and yes, these are all very well written, this book was well edited and patterns all tested, which is important for a sock book or pattern. Most of the socks are written for fingering weight yarn, but there are plenty for thicker yarns as well. Also whether you prefer to knit your socks toe up or cuff down there seems to be about an even mixture of each type. Also, many of the patterns lend themselves to be easy to knit them either direction and still get the same result or close to it. I find short row heels to be somewhat tight for my foot, and quite a few of these socks use short row heels, but there are lots of resources online for how to change the heel type for a pattern as well as how to adjust the stitch count for the short row heel so you can do the short row heel and still have it fit well for those of us with a larger instep. A more advanced sock knitter can easily substitute a preferred heel in these patterns, and for a less experienced knitter this book will make a pro sock knitter out of you in no time at all, especially given the huge selection of every type of heel. Most of the socks in both volumes are typical crew/ankle socks, but there are three slipper type sock patterns in each volume. All of the slipper type socks contain at least some colorwork and several of them are all over colorwork. As for the crew/ankle sock patterns there is a great mixture of single color and colorwork socks. The single color socks mostly use cables and texture although there are a small number of patterns that also utilize lace patterns. Some of the colorwork socks make fairly simple use of the additional color for those that are more timid about doing colorwork.Once I looked at the photos of each sock using Ravelry it became clear that there is almost no pattern in this book that I would not want to knit. The photos in the book in some cases are poor enough that I wouldn't have thought I would want to knit them until looking at the photos uploaded by sock knitters on Ravelry.Usually with a sock book I am satisfied if a handful of the patterns are appealing enough to make them. This book is unusual in the fact that out of 52 patterns there are hardly any that I wouldn't make. That makes this book a true bargain, considering the normal price you pay for a well written popular sock pattern. With the current discounted price you get 52 sock patterns for the price of 2 or 3 patterns. I bought volumes one and two since they were both such a deep discount it was well worth it. Volume two is just a wonderful as volume one.I would say this is mostly a book for those who have already knitted at least one pair of socks, and the more you have knitted socks, the more you will probably get out of this book. There are no chapters on sock knitting theory, no discussion of heel types and toe up vs cuff down that you will find in other sock knitting books. Both volumes are strictly pattern books and contain nothing but patterns. If you have never knitted socks, but you believe you would love to knit them once you start, I would say pick up these two volumes while they are on sale, but then look for some of the sock tutorials on YouTube and try making a basic sock pattern first before trying these patterns. If you are a confident beginning sock knitter you can get up to speed with some of the free resources for beginners and then dive into this book for more challenge and fun.If you are unsure about buying the book, by all means, check out the book's page on Ravelry and look at the socks made from this book. That is the best way to see if these are patterns you might enjoy knitting yourself. I can almost guarantee if you are addicted to sock knitting, as so many of us sock knitters are, you will love both volumes of 52 Weeks of Socks.
Socks
Love this book so many beautiful socks to knit
Libro 52 calcetines
Precioso y como nuevo
Un must !
