Older Beginner Piano Students
I've used books one and two now for my older Beginner students, (ages 12 and up- depends on the kid!) They are so great and full of pieces that they really seem to like the style of! I love the unique approach to learning the bass clef, (basically taking a chorded approach, then building the note reading up one step at a time.

I mean, really...could the Pop Staff books be any more brilliant? Can we create some sort of innovation award for the Dow's for services to the piano community? As an adult beginner, who is largely self teaching, I've been stagnating in book 1B for FOUR MONTHS (darn you Shoreline Sonata and your wandering melody line...) and finally gave myself a break and went back to work through Pop Staff 2.Oh. My. Word. The music is these is beyond satisfying. The relief at being able to play something and have it sound good! (No shade on 1B, I actually do adore the music in it, but my ears are tired of the 5 finger scale and I'm getting in my own way).It's so hard to describe the way Pop Staff changes everything fundamentally *for adults*. For adult brains and adult ears and adult coordination. The sounds. The complete opposite approach to dexterity. I'm using pedal...and understanding how to do it! It's like trying to explain a cartwheel to someone who has never done one. Pop Staff 1 was so, so good. But Pop Staff 2 is brilliant. If you've been hesitating, stop hesitating and buy it, you will not regret the purchase.
Young teen student is happy to learn these lovely pieces
Young teen beginners don't get excited over "Hot Cross Buns," but these pieces are lovely! Books 1 and 2 are excellent for encouraging note reading and chord playing, with the left hand changing positions for each chord. The right hand has stayed in a 5-finger position while the left gets used to traveling. The songs are so pretty and relaxing, I suggested one of my students record 10-15 minutes of them and give the recordings as gifts. Music for little ones has plenty of white space. These books also have that, but without appearing elementary--just minimalist and pretty. Book 2 is where rests are included, and it's a seamless transition. The GRAPHICS are gorgeous! Well done!!!!!!!!!
Great for older beginners
Started an 11 year old out with this series and they are moving VERY quickly keeping motivation and supplementing with pop songs they know. Great series.
