About this item:

Iris and Issac are NOT FRIENDS. Off they stomp, in a big huff, as far away from each other as possible. And as they stomp, they see funny, strange and wonderful things. If only the were together to share them...

Review

In this sweet story about friendship, Catherine Rayner’s wonderful depictions of her ursine heroes are elegant yet also playful and child-like (not least in their initial stroppiness and obstinacy). Her gorgeous images also perfectly capture the serene beauty of the natural landscape and its soft dreamy colours, from the dark blue-green shades of an echoey cave to the magical glow creating by the Aurora Borealis Northern lights. ― My Little Style File

5.0 out of 5 stars Well illustrated book for young children.

This is ideal for 3 -5 year olds and beyond as an early reader. The illustrations are lovely, the story is beautiful and just right for the younger aged child. We bought it for a 6 year old as she is called Iris and I know she will enjoy reading it by herself.

Catherine Rayner creates very simple stories, with a lovely dreamlike quality about them. In this book we meet two polar bears, Iris and Isaac. They have just had a row, other nothing much, and stomped off in opposite directions. Both Iris and Isaac see and find interesting things as they go, which they wish they could show to their friend. At the end of the story, they are reunited, the argument forgotten and both snuggled up together. It is a very warm story, with a nice message about friendship and coping with the little arguments toddlers have. The story is not too complicated and the illustrations are stunning, with a real sense of space and light about them. Very impressive - this author just gets better and better.

I bought this book for my grand-daughter's first birthday who happens to be called Iris. I'm sure she is going to love seeing her name in print when she is old enough to recognise it.

I bought this after being given 'August and his smile' of the same author. This is a beautifully illustrated simple little tale about friendship. My 4 year old loved it.

The illustrations are enough to make this a favorite, but the story is sweet and simple and good moral for little ones.
