You need to be able to read financial statements if you want to be a long term investor. This book breaks down every aspect of financial statements. It also has the added benefit of pointing out what Warren Buffet looks for in many elements of the financial statement to find the best companies. It's not entertaining, but it's a great reference tool to have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good and concise book on how to read financial statements

J.O. · 11 August 2024

The book describes in very short chapters in a concise way the meaning and interpretation of the items one would usually find in financial reports of publicly listed companies. It then shows possible ways how to look at them to identify companies with a competitive advantage worth investing in.In general, it is a good introductory book about financial statements but I don’t give it 5 stars simply for the reason that at least on two occasions, the authors simply copy pasted content from previous chapters. The editors did not do a great job there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a good read.

Good book - but for beginners

3.0 out of 5 stars A good walk through a balance sheet but annoying in style

A.C. · 9 February 2017

A good walk through a balance sheet but annoying in style. If one were to remove the phrase "the durable competitive advantage that made Warren Super-rich" and replace it with "." then this book would halve in size. It is however a good outline of what goes where and why in the various financial statements of a Company and that alone makes it worth a quick read. In the end one also gets to understand that "." doesn't really exist in one place on the statements, it's more ephemeral than that.

5.0 out of 5 stars It does what it says

I bought this book as an introduction to the intracacies of finance relating to shares. As a total newcomer this book has been invaluable. Mary Buffet is a gifted teacher, she assumes nothing and explains everything very clearly and simply. As a teacher myself I appreciate someone who has great knowlege who can explain complex subjects clearly. Not everyone can do this. If you are a novice like me who needs this kind of book then you will be very happy you bought it.If you are a more accomplished invester but want to understand how Warren Buffet uses parts of the balance sheet to find the profitable durable advantage companies that are the mainstay of his stock picking then this will be a great buy for you too.I have bought other books written by the author and look forward to reading them too.

This book breaks down the financials sections of a company, providing a good insight about income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flow. It's not exciting but certainly useful.

This book is FANTASTIC!!

J. · 27 August 2024

I gave this book five stars, but if I could more stars I most definitely would have! If was direct and to the point, while explaining perfectly the concepts and rules as Warren Buffett analyses a company’s financial statements. Adding insight when to look at details of past financial performance. I read it in a few hours due to not being able to put it down. Thank you for sharing the depth and breathe of Warren’s interpretation of a company’s financial statements to identify those companies with a durable competitive advantage! EXCELLENT JOB!!
