The New Chapter Tarot (Card Deck)

Description:

About this item:

A new chapter in the tarot itself (Rachel Pollack, author of 78 Degrees of Wisdom and co-Creator of The Raziel Tarot)

The New Chapter Tarot is a story, a journey, a self portrait of change

The New Chapter Tarot is one woman s self-portrait of change. Faced with the realization that her relationship was coming to an end, Kathryn Briggs entire life was at an either/ or moment. She was an immigrant, on a marriage visa, with no professional contacts and not much in the way of community back home. Was she prepared to blow up her entire life? To risk what was known, for what could be?

Arting through her problems, Kathryn painted tarot cards as feelings arose and presented themselves to be dealt with. The Queen of Swords is the friend who offered their shoulder to cry on before giving the keenest advice, the 6 of Disks is the adopted cat who helped her feel rooted and home, Strength is the friend she hadn t seen in 20 years but who had also returned to the strange place they were from but never felt they belonged.

Each card of
The New Chapter Tarot is a meditation in paint; a feeling arose and it became a card and was released. This completed deck represents a new life, a circle of Hope and Friendship and Love.

Didn't like it, not connected with the cards. Nothing wrong with the artwork which is beautiful and the packaging is super nice hence the 4 stars but it's going back. Sorry.

Amazing Thoth based deck

N. · 24 June 2024

I was drawn to this deck from a youtube video where I fell in love with a few of the cards in the spread. Usually I do a little more research on a deck before purchase, but with this one I followed my heart. I was not disappointed at all.The deck appears to follow the Thoth style as opposed to most decks which follow RWS. I am a huge fan of the Thoth deck, always welcome more, and they aren't easy to find. The art doesn't follow the Thoth deck so closely that it's just a different art style of the exact same symbolism, it has it's own unique take, which I appreciate. For people who enjoy the symbolism in the Thoth deck, but aren't crazy about the bright, even jarring colors, this is the perfect deck. I really love the soft color palette used in this one and think it would pair nicely with Spiritsong, Linestrider or Oracle decks by Siolo Thompson even though the art style is a bit different. The cardstock is a good thickness and low-gloss, so the cards are easy to shuffle, don't stick together, don't have bad glare, and it seems pretty durable. While some thicker cardstock can be even more durable, I think this is just the right thickness so that it's not awkward to handle with small hands. The guidebook is alright. The entries are pretty small, one page per Major Arcana card with the card art taking up half of that page. Minor Arcana don't have the card art in the guide, just a paragraph. It's better than nothing or a one line description per card. Reversal meanings are listed for Major Arcana, but not Minor. There are a few spread recommendations in the back of the book. It's an actual hardbound book instead of a pamphlet style or softcover. The box is pretty unique and it took me a minute to figure out how to open it. Unlike normal upright opening boxes, this one has a magnet latch on the bottom that must be opened and then inside is a box that slides out of that. I like that the deck and book can be stored together in a compact box. It seems like a very sturdy, thick box, which even though it got banged up on the corners in shipping, the inner box and cards were undamaged. It's nice that the bottom can't fall out accidentally when I go to pick up the deck like happens on a lot of upright boxes that aren't tuck boxes.

Pasable

A rare new intelligent deck

F. · 23 March 2022

I am really picky about decks because I think very few new ones have anything to offer. Too many clones and too many people who make decks but don't know how to read well enough to understand what a deck is supposed to have. This applies to literally all other liminal11 decks, which is why I was so surprised to fall in love with this one. It's a peculiar combination of Thoth and RWS, where it creates a serious deck for serious reading, without resorting to the kind of pretentious esoteric nonsense of Thoth, and without the semantic simplicity of RWS. It's also a deck made by someone who apparently is either a seasoned reader or a very talented young one - the card meanings provided in the LWB are nuanced and smart and don't shy away from being strict and harsh, but never veers into catastrophic or cruel. Court cards are a particular treasure. The card size is somewhere between playing card and standard RWS and with this, they've hit jackpot because it's big enough to see the details and enjoy the art but small enough that you can do a 13 card spread without much fuss. There are some things that I dislike, but I won't take off any starts for it since I don't think it's that important. The cardstock is perhaps too thick, but it's durable which is important when you actually use a deck. It chips on the edges slightly like all cards do but this is visible because the backs are black. The backs are also not painted entirely well - like with some other decks that feature black backgrounds, if printing isn't top notch it won't look well, and here for sure doesn't look well. The backs are the backs, however and since the fronts are fascinating - who cares. :-)

Satisfied buying

Art work and illustration is very nice but card quality could have been more workable

Beautiful Inclusive Tarot Deck

D. · 8 January 2022

This beautiful 78 (+2 bonus) card tarot deck is fully illustrated in rich watercolor designs of an empowering adventure that the creator takes us on inspired from her own personal journey after the end of a relationship and trying to find her way back home. Each card is a meditation where we weather seasons of change, learn through adventure, are touched by deep friendships, held by love & hope, evolve in time, and find ourselves along the way. This deck is truly inclusive from the range of skin tones & cultures represented, to the assortment of body types shown, to the Court cards not being stereotyped with a specific gender, and to the wide age range displayed. Also, many cards do not even depict humans but show images of animals, plants, sacred geometry, strong symbolism, and the play of color theory. Each card is a beautiful piece of artwork that is truly a joy to view alone. In a reading, the cards synergize together to create a powerful palette that comes alive to tell a story and provide guidance. The deck is standard playing card size. The card stock is done in a soft matt finish that resists glare and is tactile for easier shuffling. The back design is not symmetrical, which might be an issue when doing reversed readings. There is a mini full color, hardcover booklet included with the deck. It is jammed packed with information. Rachel Pollack does the Foreward and there are interpretations for upright & reversed of the Majors & bonus cards, interpretations for the Minors, and several spreads. The storage box is a two part, full color slipcase with a secure magnetic closure. The outer box has gold foiling details to finish it off nicely. All cards and guide fit securely in the box for protection. This deck is an absolute new favorite of mine. It’s really well done with the beauty of the artwork & theme, the inclusivity, and the detailed & helpful guide.
