A very comprehensive, detailed and informative guide. Highly recommend that wish to travel on road.
4.0 out of 5 stars Informative amusing motorcycle UK travel book.
I'm a motorcyclist who loves travel. I'm also in my mid seventies, so this book caters for my needs.Mark writes in a style I like, not full of his own importance but factual, complemented with humour & interest in his surroundings other than A to B as fast as possible. My sort of journey.Worth reading.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book .
Really enjoyed reading this book . Very easy to pick up and read a few pages when I got the chance . I’ve read a few books about the end to end journey and this was in the top 5 . Not too much waffling about the weather but plenty of characters on the way make an appearance. I would look out for other books by this author.
5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting variation on a theme
A thoroughly enjoyable book. Travelogues covering Land's End to John O'Groats are not uncommon, and not something that I would normally read. However, this book, in making reference to John Hillaby's book was much more interesting. The level of detail was good ... not too little, nor too much. The comparison with the earlier journey piqued my curiosity. And the fact that the author used a motorcycle was the icing in the cake gor me.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good book
Interesting read .
4.0 out of 5 stars My type of book
Enjoyed the book, missed out my part of the country sadly. Related to the brain jukebox thing 😂. Not as insightful as Bill Bryson but a good read.
3.0 out of 5 stars A bit too superficial
Having read tbe original journeys through Britain, this book was ok as it stands but, journey completed much too quickly, and on a motorbike, so skimpy descriptions all the way through. Author annoyingly keeps repeating that this place or that place needs to be visited again. Well, slow down then!
5.0 out of 5 stars This book will have you planning your own adventure through Great Britain
A brilliant and hugely enjoyable read which you will be sorry you reach the end of. Surely Mark could have spun it out by a few hundred more pages so that we could continue to enjoy the gently humour interspersed with observations and comments that will make you chuckle noisily, learn more of our pre history and industrial past and wonder at the beauty of our landscapes. The last part of the journey takes in the magnificent North Coast 500 in Scotland which Mark describes so beautifully that he should immediately be taken on by the relevant tourist board. This book will have you planning your own LEJOG by whatever means you fancy.
Great sense of humor and enjoyable trip
Days are too much alike. Minus a star. The UK is a very exciting place to travel, very accomodating people and a lot of interesting experiences from geology, fossiling, falconry, gardens, history, canal boating, sheepdog trials, beaches, birding. Motorcycling backroads was an experience I hadn't thought of but here it is, presented with good humor and a jukebox of tunes. It was a good, not great, trip.
