Description:

About this item:

In the middle of the coldest winter on record, an EMP destroys the nation’s power grid.
No electricity. No cars or phones. Worst of all: No heat. The country is plunged into instant chaos.

But for twenty-six-year-old Hannah Sheridan, it’s the best day of her life. For the last five years, she’s been the captive of a sadistic psychopath—until the EMP releases the lock of her prison.

Battered but not broken, she emerges from her underground cell into a hostile winter landscape with no way to call for help, no vehicle that will drive, armed with nothing but the clothes on her back and her own determination to survive.

Cynical loner and ex-soldier Liam Coleman is headed nowhere fast. He believed he was prepared for any disaster—until the EMP took everything he’d ever cared about in a matter of seconds.

Two hundred frozen, perilous miles stand between them and their destination in rural Michigan. The lack of power, desperate people, and the treacherous elements aren’t the only threats, for Hannah's captor isn’t about to let her go. He will hunt her to the end of the world and beyond.

From USA Today Bestselling Author comes the acclaimed

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping story, believable characters and nail biting action

Stone's ability to write interesting, fully developed characters is one of the reasons that this book is difficult to put down. The pacing is fast and well-structured and her storytelling is truly gripping. Her knowledge and research are done very well and her descriptions of action and weaponry are reminiscent of Chris Ryan and Andy McNab.Some characters you'll love and some you'll love to hate. The villain is expertly written and utterly terrifying. The heroine is a masterpiece in showcasing human will, limits and flaws. If you like post-apocalyptic fiction, please read this book!

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the rest in the series. Well written and full of suspense. Not my normal genre but got me hooked. Well worth a read.

Good book. Good characters but feel a bit cheated with the ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Book!

After reading the fuel-charged prequel, I immediately moved onto this as it was an absolute must.Edge of Collapse is fantastic. It’s 307 pages long and I read it over two days, a record for me.I loved the grit and determination of Hannah, who against terrible odds escaped and survived her kidnapper. She thinks escape means she can return home. But she doesn’t take into account the relentless snow and bitter cold that’s determined to impede her way.Luckily, along cones Liam. An ex solider, he is much more equipped to deal with the harsh conditions. He too, is trekking home.Together, they attempt a journey fraught with problems. More so, because Hannah’s psychopathic captor is on their trail.Overall, this is a stunningly clever book. The whole series holds promise and it makes me excited to begin the journey. I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s a fantastic, absorbing, and thrilling.

I absolutely loved this book and read it in a day. The tensions between the two main characters, Liam and Hannah, are well drawn and the dog, Ghost, I really fell in love with. The story moves along at a fair clip and readers are not left hanging about waiting for the next event. I loved the descriptions of the snowy landscape and the little survival hacks, such as the cotton wool balls soaked in Vaseline. The writing is clear and the author really knows how to tell a story. At times I actually felt as though I was there in the snow and freezing cold. This book is well worth 5 stars. However I have only given it 4 stars because to my utter disappointment, when I tried to buy the next book in the series this morning after I finished this one (that is how much I enjoyed it), I found it is only available in Kindle format. I do not have a Kindle. Neither do I want one. Reading from one hurts my eyes. I am sure I am not the only person to prefer the smell and feel of a paperback book to a Kindle so why can't this series continue in paperback format? As it is I am just left hanging because it is clear from the ending of the first two books that there are a great many questions left that need an answer, including the fate of the two babies and the murderous Gavin Pike. If the author reads these reviews it would be appreciated if she could explain why the series cannot continue in book form because if she had I would have purchased all the books in this series and this review would have been a 5 star and would not have ended with a complaining question. After I submitted this review, complete with its whinging, I was suddenly able to buy a paperback copy of the next book in the series. I don't know if the whinging caused it but since I have been able to read the next book, which is just as good. I can now edit my review and award this book the 5 stars it deserves! Many thanks Ms Stone. Keep going!

incredible read

An intriguing & engrossing story.Sort of end of the world; apocalyptic but that just adds to the struggles to be surmounted.Well written; easy to follow. There are moments for cheering & moments where you will want to scream “Watch out!!!”.I absolutely must read the next book in the series. That cliff hanger ending is the only negative.

This book had no business being so good

K.C. · 15 July 2024

This book was so good! This was a deeply personal book for me. I felt like it really got into the mind of being a victim and the transformation into a survivor. How it feels to finally fight back. I thought it explored that really well, in a way that felt true to me.I enjoyed the dual pov - of the victim and the monster. It heightened the suspense, and made the story more exciting. The characters in this were so good. They felt like real people, even the more minor characters. The author really brings them to life and tells their story.

Hervorragend

A book that keeps you longing for more from beginning to end
