I have been to Sweden several times now and wanted to learn a little bit of the language. I have bought other phrasebooks which have been useful but this is one of the better ones. It is split into different sections with lots of very useful phrases and includes a phonetic way of saying them- I prefer to listen and try and get the pronunciation right so an audio alongside this would be very handy. Sections include small talk, weather, directions, apologies- useful for topics for English speakers! I also like the First 24 hours after arriving and the last 24 hours before leaving section. This book is good to use alongside other learning tools including watching Swedish TV, reading in Swedish and attending Swedish classes which I do, in order to immerse yourself before you head to Sverige.

Another great offering from this language book series. I haven’t checked that there are 1500 phrases but there are certainly a lot. Following an initial section on pronunciation, all of the phrases are in English, Swedish and phonetic Swedish. Although I’m not a fan of phonetic sentences, I appreciate that it is better than nothing and a lot cheaper than providing mp3 files using native speakers. However, I would love the option of obtaining such audio.

This is an easy to read book with lots of good explanations, I’d call it “lite svenska” it’s not too heavy and is a good introduction to the melodic language of Sweden.

This book is really useful! I am self-taught in Swedish, and I found this book to be very useful regarding the most common phrases that can help you in conversation :) it is divided by sections so you can find the phrases you need easily, and it has a phonetics section to help you with pronunciation.

This book is effective, it does not dwell too much on theory, it gives you examples, lots of them in many different situations, dating, restaurant, common questions, business, answers, ...You have the english translation first, which gives you the opportunity to do reverse translation, from english to the target language, very very effective way of learning, of checking one's progress.It is very complete, there are courses that cost much more and are less effective and well thought.
