5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating and incredibly informative discussion into the uses of AI
I’m sure we’re all somewhat familiar now with the concept of artificial intelligence (AI), with many of us relying heavily upon it in our day-to-day life in the form of our smartphones, smart home devices and even our online banking. It is clear that AI is simply a part of our life now, whether you like it or not, and we’re all becoming a little more dependent upon its use with every day that passes. While these typical everyday uses I can get my head around, something as complex as the use of AI within the healthcare system has been an area, I admit, I’d never really thought much about before. With news outlets presenting argument outlining the pitfalls of technology one day and singing their praises the next, it’s difficult to know whether this new future of AI is something to be pleased about or not, never mind throwing something as serious and essential as healthcare into the mix!It is therefore all the more impressive, then, what Dr Parag Suresh Mahajan has managed to create with this book – a detailed yet incredibly readable examination of the potential benefits of the use of AI within the healthcare system, myth busting and answering any questions you may have along the way. I’ll freely admit that I’m not the most technologically minded – there have been days when the simplest of computer tasks completely alludes me – but I had no problem at all following along with the author’s arguments, reasoning and discussion. It was a fascinating read and opened my eyes in terms of the many uses of AI and how it could be harnessed to better improve our healthcare systems. With public interest in health and wellbeing at an all-time high thanks to the widespread use of smartwatches and fitness bands, employing this technology further to create a more personalised approach to heath is surely the way of the future. From diagnosis to disease detection, prognosis to management, the author has expertly and succinctly explained the many ways in which AI can be used in order to better apply complex medical data to deliver a custom care experience for the patient. In this way, he explains, a completely unique service can be offered based on an array of factors, from lifestyle to genetics, creating a plan utterly unique and designed with the patient at the centre. This is a rather stark contrast to the ‘one size fits all’ approach to healthcare that we’re probably used to dealing with and reading about its potential use within healthcare was absolutely captivating. That’s not so say that Dr Parag shies away from discussing the potential issues as resistances to AI – whether it be the future of doctors and nurses, the invasion of privacy or the risks attached with using personal healthcare data in such a way, the author provides balanced and detailed responses to any myths or potential problems that may arise. I appreciated the inclusion of the possible negative side of AI alongside the good, which helped to provide a clear and well-rounded argument that I’m sure you’ll be thinking about long after closing the book.Overall, this was a fascinating and incredibly informative discussion into the uses of AI that will open you up to a new way of thinking about technology, data and the way in which it can be harnessed. Whether you’re already interested in the subject or you’d just like a little more information, this is a fantastic read that will, I’m sure, give you plenty to think and talk about. I highly recommend!

Brilliantly Written Reference about Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
Dr. Parag Mahajan delivers an exhaustive reference work detailing the role of AI/Machine Learning/Deep Learning in medicine. AI has been around and in use for some time already. Having a medical background I was already aware of some of these uses and had not always looked upon AI favorably. However, as giant technological advancements have been made, it truly is awe-inspiring to contemplate what a valuable tool it really is in being able to improve our lives and those of whom we serve. This book opened my eyes to the positive strides that have been made and will continue to be made.I loved the breakdown of various medical disciplines in Section 8 (but if it had been in alphabetical order I would've liked it better). Also, as many have commented on, looking at AI in view of the current pandemic is a great way to get a look at AI in practical application in terms we can relate to.Another great discussion was Section 6, Chapter 4 - AI in Medical Education. Unfortunately it seems to be the way of things that education is often the last arena to be brought up to speed. I'm glad to see the issue addressed here. Section 10 is yet another captivating section centering on specific corporations and their efforts into medical AI.Although so much information could quickly become overwhelming, Dr. Mahajan delivers it in such an engaging manner that is understandable. Neither was I lost in the information, nor did I feel it patronizing. I found myself not wanting to put it down! Highly recommend this book!
How artificial intelligence affect health care professionals
One of the most interesting books about an emerging global issue; the new competence of the health care professionals
Excellent book on AI in Medicine!
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been developing rapidly in recent years in terms of software algorithms, hardware implementation, and applications in a vast number of areas. In this book, the writer (PARAG MAHAJAN, MD) has smoothly explained the latest developments of applications of AI in biomedicine, including disease diagnostics, living assistance, biomedical information processing, and biomedical research. The aim of this book (Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: AI, Machine Learning, and Deep and Intelligent Medicine Simplified for Everyone) is to keep track of new scientific accomplishments, to understand the availability of technologies, to appreciate the tremendous potential of AI in biomedicine, and to provide researchers in related fields with inspiration. It can be asserted that, just like AI itself, the application of AI in biomedicine is still in its early stage. New progress and breakthroughs will continue to push the frontier and widen the scope of AI application, and fast developments are envisioned in the near future.Furthermore, this book expounds on the current healthcare system and its effect on patient welfare. If we move our eye in history, we come to know that physicians have too much workload. Due to this, they could not communicate properly with patients and give them proper guidelines, and the effect of this poor communication - decreased patient trust in doctors. The research shows that 99% of all human communication is based on body language, while only 7% is dependent on the exchange of words. This book shows that patients are not waiting for the doctors to explain everything about their health in today's era, but they use AI, like; smartwatches, fitness bands, smart oximeters, and glucometers connected to their smartphones and can easily know their health status. In addition, the writer plays a pivotal role in explaining the main reason for NOT using AI - resistance by doctors. According to him, physicians think that AI will replace the job of doctors, but in reality, it is not like that. AI will help the doctors work faster, save time, and do various research like the COVID symptom tracker app launched in the US and the UK to determine COVID cases. As per the recent report of the FDA, the AI is secure, and data is only visible to patients, not everyone. In the area of assisted living for elderly and disabled people, AI applications using corresponding smart robotic systems are paving the way for improvements in life quality. An overview of smart home functions and tools offered for people with loss of autonomy (PLA) and intelligent solution models based on wireless sensor networks, data mining, and AI was published recently. NNs can be trained with specific image-processing steps to recognize human facial expressions as commands. Furthermore, human-machine interfaces (HMIs) based on facial expression analysis allow people with disabilities to control wheelchairs and robot assistance vehicles without a joystick or sensors attached to the body.In addition to it, the writer has perfectly mentioned the myths about AI and the solutions too. People think that AI will replace doctors, and the consequences of this replacement will be poverty and loss of economy. Another myth is AI models are biased and 3rd myth is, AI is too risky to use in healthcare, and the last myth is AI means the end of privacy. Telling these myths, the writer has clearly said that these are false statements and not to believe these. He advises to implement AI in surgeries, radiology workflows, scans tests, and so on, and said, "AI is serendipity; it is here to liberate us from monotonous jobs and makes us more human."In conclusion, I give a 5-star rating because through this book, readers will come to know about every application, implementation, and AI process in our daily lives from micro to macro applications. The works of machines for the betterment of humans are admirably mentioned in this book. The writer has put some light on AI in almost every medical field and its usage like; pulmonology, pediatrics, oncology, obstetrics, gynecology, neurology, neurosurgery, nephrology, rheumatology, nursing, physical therapy, and several others. It has been predicted that AI will hit healthcare in the most shocking way. The anticipated steps include: care and management of chronic disease, increasing the availability of health data of patients, environmental and socio-economic facets of medicine, and precision medicine and genetic information integrated with care management.
Comprehensive
I found this book really very informative and useful. I had all sorts of notions as to what AI did and can do but I was surprised to find out the facts and how it has been implemented into our health system. The book is well written and formatted, the grammar is good and it is written in a style that is easy to understand and retain information.I liked that the book has been written in a way that really breaks down the subject and that the concepts are also presented in a way that informs and then educates around the subject. It's not written so that you are expected to have some knowledge of the subject first even though the subject is niche.AI is simply incredible and what is happening right now in health care with these new tools is astonishing. This is a fascinating book and an eye opening experince.
All you need to know
I feel excited whenever I get the opportunity to read and write about an ascendent technology like AI or ML or something else. After reading the book's title, "Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare," I was more curious to read it. The author has placidly explained the advantages of artificial intelligence (AI), machine-learning algorithms, and software in healthcare to mimic human cognition in the analysis, presentation, and comprehension of complex medical and health care data, i.e., AI in healthcare shows the immense possibilities in customizing care delivery or delivering solutions based on an individual patient's genetic, lifestyle, location, and environmental factors. It spans the treatment journey from diagnosis to disease detection, prognosis, and management. This book astonishingly answers all of our questions, like what happens when things go wrong? How are the end-users educated? Reasons why everyone should acquaint to it? And goes on! Besides, this book elucidates the current healthcare system and its impact on patient well-being. We all know that everyone in today's era is more conscious about their health. This book clarifies that AI plays a crucial role in knowing each health status (like smartwatches, fitness bands, intelligent oximeters, and glucometers connected to their smartphones and can quickly understand their health status). The author splendidly said that "AI is luck; it is here to free us from tedious jobs and proffers us more human."This book will positively be adorable for those who want to be or are interested in the vanguard of the latest advancements worldwide with accurate data. It will open up new prospects for you in the field of Artificial Intelligence and will surely increase your concern. I feel like the author has a magnificent way of explaining things. I relished this book, and I believe you would also. Overall, An informative piece, highly recommended!
