5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book
The translations are top quality. Each selected speech has a well written and easy to follow "background" presented before it, giving context to the words. And as for the words... well, aren't you curious to know what the man himself actually said? He is arguably the most recognisable European of all time and his words should be available for each man to judge for himself.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Commentary & Texts
This is a splendid book that provides a selection of key speeches that span Hitler's career. The commentary and introduction to each speech is excellent, and written in a very compelling way. I sincerely hope that C. J. Miller will consider writing a comprehensive history of Hitler - that would be a terrific read!

Inspiring great book
5.0 out of 5 stars Very illuminating
Due to the passion and bias that one finds in secondary sources on this subject (on both sides), and the incompetence of most translators of this material (where they bother to translate it), Antelope Hill's new translation of a selection of Adolf Hitler's speeches is very welcome. It captures something of Hitler's rhetorical skill, and the short explanations of the context behind each speech helps the reader to understand some of the references within the text. The book's cover art, adapted from a famous painting of the era, is excellent as well.
An amazing tool for studying economic history
While this is a book containing Adolf Hitlers speeches, it is also an opportunity for you to read the words that reflected the mind of a man embattled with ideological and economic concerns. Hitler was the culmination of his life experiences, as were his colleagues and fellow Germans. This book gives you a glimpse into the social atmosphere at the time and overlay them on to modern times. What becomes clear is that the underlying issues on which politicians argued seem no different than any other time in history. You come to realize through reading that people do not grow as fast as some people want economies to grow. The inevitable imbalance causes suffering, resentment, and opportunity for an individual like Adolf and his network who took power because they appealled to deeply dejected German workers.I think in contrast to modern times, many people feel they can't afford life or even buy a home. It seems the economy is under a tremendous weight, and the battles between left and right are completely polar. This book will show the discerning reader that there are consequences to allowing the passions of ideology to affect what are otherwise righteous and proper concern for people.
Valuable resource for scholars and laymen alike
The book is a collection of speeches delivered by Adolf Hitler between 1918 and 1945, providing an insight into his ideology, rhetoric, and political strategies. The speeches are organized chronologically, providing a historical context for the reader to understand the evolution of Hitler's political career. From a literary perspective, the speeches are well-crafted and show Hitler's mastery of oratory skills. His speeches are powerful and emotive, appealing to the nationalist sentiments of his audience. The language is often repetitive, using hyperbole to emphasize the importance of his message, and the tone is often aggressive, reflecting his confrontational approach to politics. From a historical perspective, the book provides a valuable resource for scholars and researchers studying the rise of Nazi Germany. The speeches give insight into the propaganda techniques used by the Nazi regime to mobilize the German population, and they shed light on the ideology that underpinned Hitler's policies. However, it is important to note that the book presents only one side of the story and omits crucial information. The speeches are edited and translated, which can impact the accuracy of the message conveyed. Moreover, the book does not provide a critical analysis of Hitler's beliefs and actions, nor does it contextualize his speeches within the wider political and social developments of the time.In conclusion, "In His Own Words: The Essential Speeches of Adolf Hitler" is a valuable resource for scholars and researchers interested in the rise of Nazi Germany. However, it should be read with caution and in conjunction with other sources to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the historical context and events surrounding Hitler's speeches.
An incredible interesting book for deep thinkers, history buffs, farmers and educators alike.
I greatly enjoyed this book and was well worth the read. This book was done before the World War Two and is very interesting because its not tainted by the war and its aftermath. If you really want to step into German of the 1930s then this is the book for you. It has great insight and should vex both the right and the left of today. Well written and easy to read you may not agree with all the ideas but you may come away with some that have merit!!
