5.0 out of 5 stars Great wok, just read the instructions

I love carbon steel woks. It gets really hot all over the cooking surface and, since I seasoned it properly, no issues with food sticking. Yes they discolour but i like the fact they get darker over time. and yes they have a chance of rusting if you don't treat them properly but they are really easy to care for. Just make sure it's properly seasoned by keeping it lightly oiled the first few times after putting it away and it's fine. Nicest thing for me is still the fact that these woks are more or less indestructible, if you get some rust or burned your food, just sand down the wok and re-season, no layers in there that get damaged over time

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite pan

Absolute favourite pan but, if you want to learn how to care for carbon steel, don’t buy it. Served 4 years so far (per photo) and seasoned nicely, nothing sticks now and no sign of rust. Actually incredible, given it only cost £14 at the time!!Good seasoning makes this easy to clean - hot water and a silicon brush, followed by a rub-down with oil and a couple mins on the hob to dry/burn off.Heats evenly, great to cook with. Size-wise good for 2 people, 3 at a push. Only reason I have to replace it now is because it’s not big enough for 4. Else it would live on for a long time, making it great value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value , sturdy little woke

Great little woke . works very well on gas stove . Had to season it before first use. A bit of post use care is needed (wash with warm water and oil) to prevent rust. Over all good value for money.

Worst product I have ever bought... First time I used it, I wiped the wok with a paper towel then rinsed it out with warm water.I then put the wok in my dishwasher and cleaned it with the rest of my dirty pans, plates, cutlery etc..... When the wash had finished, I emptied the machine to find that the wok was tarnished and badly marked, looking like it was rusty. I tried many different ways to clean it but without success.I used the wok again, about a week later in the hope that it was OK, to find that it left a nasty metallic flaour to the food which resulted in me feeling sick afterwards.

The media could not be loaded. **EDIT** I've mentioned it below but since writing this I've read loads of the bad reviews which all say it rusts. Of course it rusts, it's made of non stainless steel. It takes a little work to keep it seasoned which will stop it from rusting. I have about 5 professional steel skillets at work and they are all rusty because they've been unused, unseasoned and stored for about 10 years. If I was to start using them again I would clean and season them.If you want ease don't buy this pan and then complain about it. Buy a decent nonstick one. The main reason I didn't buy non stick is because I don't fully trust the non stick coating to be food safe at the very high temperature that you cook stir fry. **/EDIT**I've wanted a wok for ages but didn't want a non stick one. Ended up choosing this one and I'm glad I did. Very well made, I wouldn't hesitate using it in a commercial kitchen (I've worked in a few over the years). Had it for about 4 months now. Used it many times. For all those saying that it went rusty after a few days. Of course it did it's not stainless steel, you need to season it.I only do a light seasoning but I do it after most uses as it only takes about a minute. When is new:1) Wash it in soapy water, use a scourer if you need to. Dry.2) Put it on the gas stove an get it very very hot. So hot that you get that rainbow effect in the metal (pretty sure you can see it in my picture) you want that all over.3) Scrunch up some paper towel, dip that in fresh oil and being careful not to burn yourself, rub it all over the inside of the pan. It will smoke so turn the canopy fan on. The aim is to get as thin a coating as you can.4) Put back on the heat for 20/30 seconds and then wipe the oil paper towel around the inside again. Do this a couple of times.5) Wipe once round the bottom of pan with oily paper towel.6) Leave to cool. After each use:1) Soak & wash in warm (non soapy) water, rinse & dry.2) Get really hot on the stove.3) Do one wipe with an oily scrunched up paper towel.4) Leave to cool and put away.Occasionally you will get some build up and some food may stick. If it doesn't just rinse off then you'll need to wash it with soapy water and a metal scourer. I scour it inside and out making sure I clean off all the oil residue/build up. If this happens season it again like it's new.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent enough

    M. · 2 January 2013

When I bought this I was looking for a fairly simple to use wok. The instructions before you can use - coating with oil and making hot etc etc made this quite a complicated process. It took us a while to finally get it right and also involved my hubby removing the handle and putting it in the oven for a more even heat distribution. It's not that great and things seem to get stuck to the pot - not very non stick. Apparently things are supposed to get stuck and this adds to the flavour?? I don't know about that. All in all it's decent enough but am not rushing to buy another one..

The media could not be loaded. So if you want a Teflon pan that is easy up keep with toxic chemicals go for it.Coated carbon steel with non stick, then go for it.This is non coated steel. It’s not got any harsh chemicals but can be high maintenance but I knew that and brought it anyway. You need to build your own non sick by burning thin layers of oil till it stops smoking and removes impurities, this layer is called patina. You need to do a few coats inside and out. This is known as seasoning. Do not leave wet/use dishwasher or use soap after removing the factory protective oil coating and seasoning yourself. Wash with water and immediately burn off water and add protective coat of patina after every use.If you have the time for such commitment then this is the best.I had to buy a camp stove because although for cooking I intended to use my electric induction hob I was going to season it in the oven but it has a non removable plastic handle so to get the initial seasoning done on open flame a portable gas camp stove was purchased for £20 and 8 cans of butane. It’s been a journey but for what you pay for the wok it’s an absolute steel. Get it? Non coated carbon steel. No seriously, get it!!!

    Just perfect!

After reading a ton of negative reviews online, I still decided to give it a go because seasoning is very simple if you know how to do it. This was an uncoated "carbon steel" 30 cm wok. Hubby accidently washed it and let it dry and it got a little rusty. No biggie, the next day, scrubbed off the rust with steel wool, washed with hot water and soap and then on high heat, let it dry and added 2 teaspoons of rapeseed oil. Smoked it thoroughly on all sides and kept wiping it with a tissue. Since that day, I have been using it weekly and have been doing alot of deep frying as it helps the patina get darker and makes it more non stick. It is less than a month old now and I season it after every warm water and soap wash, I use a brush to rinse. Can be easily seasoned on a glass top hob at high heat, as the current patina (pics attached) is achieved this way. Thinking of buying a second one as it's the best thing to cook with. Tomorrow will be doing a stir fry on the charcoal bbq so I will aim to get another even seasoning on it. Great product at a great price.
