Absolutely excellent set of scales. I have been using these since 2009. They are simply the best scales I have used.I have no problem with the switch buttons, and they do everything |I expect from a set of scales. I can weigh something, reset to zero and add something else to get incremental measurements.I send quite a few packages to friends overseas, by airmail, and Royal Mail have a strict 2.0kg limit for the service I use. I use these scales to weigh the packages as I prepare them and before I finally take them to the Post Office to send.Even after 5.5 years, the weight that I record at home is within only 1 or 2 grammes of the weight displayed on the Post office scale, which is regularly calibrated. This is for packages of 1.0kg - 2.0 kg (all my packages need to be under 2.0kg, and I frequently have packages of 1950g-1985g.They are a nice size - easy to store, compact. Also easy to wipe clean.I can not recommend them highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensible compact shape, great design

These digital scales are excellent, the weigh surface is one solid piece of stainless steel, so no cracks to allow liquid ingress, the display is clear and easy to see as it sticks out from under what ever you are weighing and it seems to be a very stable scale too

5.0 out of 5 stars Small, neat, convenient

    D.P. · 20 January 2014

A compact, smart-looking device - easy to store (can hang on the wall if you desire), and easy to use. No need for its own little bowl to find a place for and be limited by - whack any old bowl on it and hit the zero button and you're good to go. Handy to be able to place even a big Pyrex oven dish on it and measure the ingredients directly into it. Of course, you can zero after each ingredient, so you can measure in each ingredient in turn with no trouble!Nice readable display, and measures almost instantly without fluctuating.Heavy enough to stay in place and feel well built, and the stainless steel platform is easy to clean (not that you'll need to do so too much - after all, you're likely to put on the bowl/whatever you're measuring your food into and cooking, which you were going to have to clean anyway - so no additional stuff to clean).

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Salter Kitchen Scale Yet!

    P.D. · 1 April 2010

I had several Salter electronic kitchen scales over the years. This one's the best of the lot.Compact - but not too small. Even with a large mixing bowl on the scales, the display is still easy to read.Light - but not too light. Just under 400g, it's easy to get out and put away, but is substantial enough to stay put on the working surface, and sits solidly on a flat surface. An excellent LCD display. The figures are large and clear - the LCD isn't very far below the top of the display area, so it's easily visible and shadows from the bezel do not obscure it. The digits are 13mm highQuick to start - less than two seconds from pressing the on switch to being ready to weigh things.Good keys - the on/off/zero and the units keys have a good positive click when pressed. The range - 5kg in 1g divisions / 11lb in 1/8oz divisions. That's as good as you could want in kitchen scales. The weighing platform is a pleasingly smooth, brushed, single piece of stainless steel.Power: One CR2032 button cell. I don't know how long this lasts, but it's a readily available size.Oh - and it has a mounting point on the underside. With a suitable flat-head screw in the wall, the scales could be easily stored hanging flat against the wall.I've only had it for three or four days, so I can't comment on the longevity of this model, but so far it's brilliant - the best I've had.Update: 2nd May 2010I've now had these scales for a month, using them every day. I'm still very, very pleased with them. Excellent Kitchen scales in every way. Hey - I'm pleased enough to have come back to find this review and update it!Update: 22nd July 2010Yes, the scales are still going strong. I'm still very pleased with them. There's also a feature I now use frequently which I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere. If you have a bowl full of stuff on the scales, and reset the display to zero, it will accurately show negative weights as you remove stuff from the bowl.I make bread at home - usually in a breadmaker. Sometimes I want to make rolls. For rolls, I get the breadmaker to mix the dough and give it its first rise, but then I need to split it into equal sized lumps, shape them, and leave them for their second rise before baking. So, I put a clean bowl on the scales and reset to zero. Then I empty the dough from the breadmaker into the bowl. This gives me the weight of dough I have. I divide that weight by the number of rolls I want to make (e.g. 800g divided by 8 = 100g), and reset the scale. I take out some dough until the scales show -100g. Reset scale to zero. Repeat. Result: beautifully even rolls.Update: 1st September 2010A couple of days ago, the scales stopped working. The display would come on as usual, but instead of resetting to 0, it would just display "unSt". I tried a new battery, but that did no good. I contacted Salter, who said that that sounded like a permanent fault and that I should contact Bolo. When I went to do that this morning, I thought to give the scales one more try. They're currently working perfectly again (with the old battery). Most mysterious. Despite this fault, I still rate these scales as the best kitchen scales I've had. I'll update again if there are any further problems.Update: 10 August 2011.The scales are still working fine. My best guess is that some moisture got inside, but eventually evaporated.Update: 20 January 2014.The scales died permanently sometime in 2012. I think they got a bit wet again, and that did for them. So if I have one criticism it's that their water resistance could be better. Lovely to use though.Update: 5 October 2014.Since these scales are at an all-time low price today (£10.40!), I'm buying another one. Let's see how long this one lasts.Update: 4 December 2015. I haven't actually started using my new scales yet! But as someone pointed out in comments, five stars is too mcuh for some scales that died withing two years, so one star knocked off.

Nice pair of kitchen scales. Easy to use. Clear display. Choice of weights and measures. Looks nice. Not too big for using in even the smallest of kitchens. Bought the same one years ago and it last for ages before having to replace. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact but with a wide base, and accurate too

    A.C. · 21 October 2024

I was looking specifically for compact kitchen scales that had a large enough surface for big mixing bowls. These have been perfect - I like the round surface versus the more conventional square design, too. They're accurate and responsive and the buttons are nice and tactile (they were the first point of failure on the last, different, set of scales I had, so I'm glad).

    Good, but not the best

    A. · 28 May 2024

I already had scales, but It uses 2 CR2 batteries (Beurer). It's the reason to switch scales, since this one draines batteries, even when not used. Not sure It has to do with the CR2 capacity issues, but It doesn't seem right that after 2 weeks or so they're empty again without using It. I had to always remove the batteries when not using It. Annoying! So time for a replacement. So I compared and reviewed 4 different scales from Bolo:- Salter 1035 SSBKDR- CHWARES Digital Kitchen Scales Rechargeable- Bolo Basics Digital Kitchen Scale- Pro Breeze Digital Kitchen ScaleThey turned out all fine. None of them had technical issues, just some user experience nags and personal preferences.Salter 1035 SSBKDRI liked the design. The display that sticks out helps with reading the display when you're weighing big items. The metal plate looks nice, but fingerprints & fat Is very visible. I don't think It stays pretty for long. It had nice rubber feet to make It sturdy and not slide. When weighing the numbers sometimes jumped around a bit or had a slight delay before getting there. This is somewhat annoying. The result was consistent though. I measures in 1 gram increments up to 5kg. It uses a CR2 battery. Included! Something I missed. It's the reason I switched scales, since my previous one (Breuer) drained batteries. Maybe this one doesn't drain, but I don't dare to try It again. Also because the readings were a bit slow.CHWARES Digital Kitchen Scales RechargeableReally cute scale. Not sure you need the plastic containers as you'd probably use your own that's easier to clean (that's not plastic). But It's considered design to keep the 2 sizes also as protectors that fit on the scales upside down. I'm sure in some corner case that could be useful for some. Display was clear and nice blue. Just, because It's so small and not sticking out, hard to read when weighing bigger items, because the view is blocked, so you have to bend over to read. Readings were consistent and It responded quick. It measures on gram decimals, up to 3kg. Not sure how accurate It was on the .1 decimal, as I had no reference to compare It too. But on the gram It was consistent. But for bigger items It became an issue. Not just the reading, but also the accuracy. The measurements went of a bit with a big size bowl filled with water. It has a lithion battery. Based on personal preferences that could be great. I didn't test how long It went on a battery. If you want more precise decimal readings for smaller items, this is your scale!Bolo Basics Digital Kitchen ScaleAs the name suggests, very basic in build quality. Yet, initially I was surprised about how quick and accurate It was. But weirdly that changed during my tests going slower over time with measurements jumping around a bit before getting to the right result. Accurate, just a bit annoying. The price is interesting though, but you can see and feel It in the build. The display was fine, It sticks out so It's still easy to read with bigger items. I felt the text on the display made things more messy and confusing vs the competition. But since It's just so basic in functionality, nothing you can't figure out. It's basically just translations of the same thing. It just looks messy.Runs on 2 AAA batteries. Included! If price Is your primary goal, this is the scale for you!Pro Breeze Digital Kitchen ScaleWeirdly this gave a reversed experience with the Bolo scale. Initially It had a slow response, only to never come back again during the tests and stayed quick. It has a more polished design and feel vs the Bolo scale. It looks a bit more premium. The plate Itself is sensitive for fat and fingerprints though.I really liked the display. It's white text on black, which looks like an always on display. It also suggests It may be a little more efficient with the battery that way, but that's just an assumption. I didn't test that. The display doesn't stick out, but because of Its design being a bit higher and the display rotated the display was still easy to read with a big bowl. This makes It easier to store without something sticking out. Also the buttons are more simplified to Its essence. It was quick and consistent with the readings. It looked the prettiest and just feels like It was a bit more thoughtful in design. If you like a slightly more refined design and a bit more premium feel, this is probably the scale for you!I considered It was worth a few extra bucks and chose this one.
