5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely fun problem solving toy
I bought this for my 20 month old child and he loves it. As toys go, it's comfortable enough for him to lift, and present to me to open up for him to play with. It rolls over easily so he can turn it around to find the corresponding holes. He's learning quickly which shapes go into which holes and it's bright and colourful and fun. I've nkt noticed any problems with the paint or finish quality. My only comment for improving it, is the stopper in the top. It's plastic and needs an adult to open or close it by forcing it on. This lid stopper piece also has a semi circle hole which is for one of the shapes. I actually think this is superfluous, my son doesn't quite appreciate that it's part of the design and gets quite frustrated when I put the stopper back on to allow him to put the shape in. It doesn't really fit with the rest of the design in that regard, so he's confused where the last piece goes. His logic makes sense. Either put the final hole at the bottom in the wood, or don't hsbe it at all.
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent shape sorting cube
Great for 3 year olds. Cover is too loosely fitted (& blutack is hardly a satisfactory solution). Box can be rattled to allow insertion of all the impressively solid & chunky wooden shapes - which I would have liked to have been itemised (i.e. parallelogram, cuboid, pentagon, hexagon, quatrefoil etc.) On balance: superb item - highly recommended.
5.0 out of 5 stars Traditional toy to encourage developmental skills
I actually bought this as a present for a friends son, but I have similar M&D products for my own child. This toy takes children through a numer of developmental skills, (I believe), from picking up different shaped objects, placing them on the pegs, sorting by colour/shape.... I am told my friend's son loves the toy!The only tiny complaint i have is that the wood appears to be a soft wood, which my daughter has managed to chew through (teething) and some of her pieces (in the shape sorting cube) have splintered and been taken away for now. Having said this, it wouldnt prevent me buying more M&D products.Good old fashioned wooden toys - I do not think you can beat them, splinters and all...
5.0 out of 5 stars great toy
just received the cube, its light, thus great for kids, the blocks are solid.honestly after reading few reviews I did not expect much, but I was nicely surprised.my cube has a sliding wall, so I does not open unwanted, I reckon you need to be lucky to buy the right cube from a right seller, as for me its A+, can't fault it...most importantly my daughter likes it and she gets exited when blocks makes noise when pushed insideits also well designed because no blocks can go inside unless they are placed in the right hole (I tried!!!!) as some other sorters allow you to cut corners...its great value for money as I paid under £10 including postage..
5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely toy for developing dexterity and logic
We were lent one of these by a childminder and baby loves it so much that I had to buy her one of her own! She’s starting to make connections between where the shapes and colours line up, and where the blocks should go (I mean … she still needs a little help to actually slot the blocks through the holes but that’s fine, she’s 13 months). This shape sorter is a definite favourite and I’d recommend it for anyone with a curious and busy little baby. And yes, it’s tough enough to stand up to gnawing as well as general use.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
It’s a good concept and our daughter does love it. But I’m pretty unimpressed with the craftsmanship. There’s clearly wood glue that has oozed out of the joints and globed along the seams. As this is our first child we were new to the toy scene and the way Melissa and Doug products are talked about I expected better. We bought multiple products of theirs and have returned quite a few as although made of wood, felt flimsy. This pound bench was of thicker wood and sturdier so we kept it, and as it’s a unique design as well, I’ve not seen another pound toy like it. Of course our daughter doesn’t care there’s glue on it she just likes watching the ball bounce down and roll along the floor to crawl after it but as a parent you want the toys to start out in a nice condition.
Incredible!!
Absolutely incredible, my daughte’s been playing with this toy for 2 months and it’s still like new, great quality!! Love it!
Well Made Toy -- Made of Wood Not Plastic
I sometimes have to work on my laptop when my 1 year old granddaughter is over. Of course she wants to play with my mouse and press the keys on the laptop when I'm working. Now we put our "laptops" side by side and she mimics what I'm doing on my laptop. We both get our "work" done quickly and can play more. This toy is very well made .. reminds me of toys I had when I was a kid. It will last for a long time. Even being yanked on and pushed on the floor hasn't had any negative effects on it ... they are little kids and that's sometimes what happens with toys. Nice to see one that doesn't break quickly.
