I have preiously tried two other products taking differrent approaches to my problem in putting socks on. As an engineer with an arthritic hip, I can critique the approach of the differernt products that I have tried. One solution is, essentially, a U-shaped length of rigid plastic, where you place the foot of the sock into the inner part and fold the rest of it down the outside. You then push your foot into the sock, and then push your heel all the way down to pull the rest of the sock onto your leg. Well, the first part is difficult because the greater length of the foot is not stretched, so pushing your foot aginst the material is incomfortable for normal socks and is impossible for elasticated support socks. The sharp hard edge over which the restof he sock is folded makes the second stage difficult as you have to push very hard, and the plastic digging into your leg is no fun. Not for me.The second offering is a wire frame covered in towelling, looking a bit like an overshoe, with pull-straps either side. Slide the sock onto the frame , which stretches it open, insert foot, tug the straps left-right/left-right to jiggle the thing over your heel (that is your daily exercise done) and it wii then slide up your leg, leving the sock properly in place, and no pain. But it doesn't do open toed socks. The towelling creats friction with the skin of your foot and the double thickness of this, inside the sock, creates a lot of friction, hence the heavy-ho job to het it moving. So, two tapes works well, but you need a low-froction inside to slide over the skin, and a cloth outside to hold the sock whilst you draw it up your leg, It needs a thin, soft plastic that has enough spring to hold the foot of the sock open so that you can easily insert your foot. Well, THIS IS IT. The first time I tried it, I actually laughrd at how simple it was. SInply push the sock up onto the tube formed when you bring the sides together - so much simpler thatn item #1 - place foot in, then pull the tames and, effortlessly , the holder slides over your heel and up your leg, leaving one lovely sock in place. A joyous start to the day.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great independence, getting dressed.
This came in a bag suitable as a gift for someone. If you find yourself in a an unfortunate situation like myself and it happened to me in my early 20's where I became ill with a life long illness, I find it difficult getting my socks and lower garments on.This is great, I must say when I've had compression stockings and I've found it moderately difficult as my legs tend to be swollen and they are tight to get on. However you can do it if the compression stockings aren't too tight. It works exceptionally well for getting your socks on or tights and jeggins. It gives a sense of been independent instead of relying on people to help you get your lower garments on.There are two straps attached to the sock/stocking aid and you pop your sock on to the fabric side to enable a grip. Forming a circular/ semi circular shape. Pop it at a level you can put your foot into your sock on top of the blue part of the stocking aid and pull on using the strapping, this can be done one handed if needed with a bit of practice. It's a great feeling when you can master doing it for yourself. This would suit the elderly and people with debilitating illnesses or where bending is difficult to tend to lower garments etc...I would highly recommend this item.I work very hard to do detailed and helpful reviews. If I miss anything please let me know, or if you have a question about the item please ask.If you like my review, please click the button that says it was helpful. I promise, you'll make my day! :)Thank you for your time, Elle x
4.0 out of 5 stars stocking aid best I've seen for the price.
Stocking Aid is, as it says, an "aid", but not an infallible solution in helping elderly people get dressed..Elderly people need a minimum of training in its use.Difficulties encountered in fitting a stocking over the "shoe" of the device as it is one size and fairly rigid. I reccomend makers produce small, medium and large versions using materials that are a little more flexible. Pulling straps can fall to the floor necessitating bending to recover them. A certain degree of coordination and manual dexterity is necessary for its proper use. Nevertheless it was praised by NHS home care workers as being well made, typical for its category and less expensive than those available in traditional shops.
5.0 out of 5 stars Simple but brilliant
Have had a hip replacement and this aid is easy to use and a great help for putting on any type of sock. Tried more expensive wire contraption but this Aidapt is so much easier and quicker to use.I think it would be difficult to put the sock on the device with one hand but if you bought two someone could pre-load the socks the night before and in that way you would have some independence back.I wish I had purchased this device before my op when I had already started struggling with putting on socks.Arrived very quickly and well packaged - highly recommend
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product would give 10 stars if I could
I bought this to help me when I came out of hospital put my surgical stockings on as I remember it being a nightmare when I had my other one done.I didn't think I would be able to put them on myself but thought it would help whoever was helping me. Much to my surprise when i tried to do it myself and success!! These are so easy to use , no bending involved (which i shouldn't do) and those really hard surgical stockings are easy now and keeps me more independent whilst I'm healing. Would recommend wholeheartedly ! if surgical stockings are easy anyone having problems with socks would find this great and even easier.
5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, does the job
I have found this product far excedes my initial expectation. It is low cost but still going after some months, it also does get my socks onto my feet which was the reason for buying it. There are a couple of points worth bearing in mind. I have found soft, woolly type socks work well. If you scrunch up the sock and pull it onto the aid so the heel of the scck is near to the tape end of the aid, add a little talc to the shiny side of the aid and then put your foot into the aid and pull. Brilliant. Now if you can come up with an aid to remove socks, even better
Indispensable pour enfiler mes chaussettes.
Bonsoir. Cordialement.
Works!
Got this to help with putting socks on following my hip replacement. It worked very well. You wouldn't really be able to use this with tights unless you were able to bend down quite a lot.
Sock Aid - Absolutely brilliant!
Absolutely brilliant! At age 70 I was having great difficulty getting my socks on, can't reach my feet any more. Now I can get them on with ease. I put the leg part of the sock on the sock aid and let the foot dangle. Then drop it on the floor, put my foot in, pull the tapes and presto the sock is on. So good I sent one to my sister in Canada under the guise of "the world's weirdest gift", gave her a good laugh and a useful accessory.
