  • MERKUR 15C SAFETY RAZOR Merkur 15c safety razor is a open comb shaver by great value for money. The open comb allows to the blade a suitable cutting for every type of beard, even the toughest resulting aggressive but still balanced. Merkur 15c is a standard 3 pieces safety razor. Sold with a Merkur Super razor blade in the package. Merkur 15c safety razor is available in the long handle version too (Merkur 25c). Length: 8,5 cm, weight: 58 g MERKUR-DOVO. Merkur was born in Solingen, Germany in 1896. The factory name owes its name to the messenger of the gods Hermes Romans. Emil Hermes (not surprisingly) is also the name of company's founder. The first razors constructed by Merkur already presented a safety comb in which was fixed a removable wedge-shaped blade that had to be sharpened regularly. During '900 Merkur patented several blades models and all their safety razors are marked with "Made in Solingen" and "Germany". After Emil Hermes's death in 1957, his family carried forward the business. Over the years Merkur production is still very classic , and for this reason, today all Merkur products on the marketplace always keep the same flavor of the past. In 1996 Dovo, the most famous Merkur customer then, takes over the company itself. In fact Dovo and Merkur still continue today the work with two separated productions while being part of the same company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Efficient without being aggressive.

    d. · 20 April 2020

I have just added this, my first open comb razor, to my collection. Like my other Merkurs, the 34C and the 37 Slant, this is a small razor with a comparatively short handle. However it is entirely useable. It's lighter than those other two razors, since being a three piece, its handle can be thinner, as it doesn't have to encase a screw mechanism.Open comb razors are meant to be more aggressive than those with full safety bars, however the 15C felt mild and very safe to use. I never felt that I would be cut or nicked, and I wasn't. I'd describe it as being efficient without being aggressive. There is some blade feel and going against the grain with the comb's prongs felt a little strange but I had confidence in the razor. It mowed down three days worth of stubble very easily indeed. I could have got away with a two pass shave but missed the odd bit.I was very impressed with this small, neat light razor and will be using it regularly in my rotation. It doesn't have the recognition that many other Merkurs receive but it's a hidden gem!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very nice shave.

I've been using safety razors for a number of years now, since way before a certain company decided to insult the majority of its customer base. I've been curious for a while about an open comb razor but always thought they looked rather intimidating. Thankfully this gives a very comfortable shave. I use it with Voskhod blades and Proraso cream and /or soap and I get a very close shave. Give it a try. You'll save a fortune.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice introduction to open comb

    A. · 30 December 2013

The Merkur 15c is my first open comb safety razor, and I must say I'm really impressed so far. Open comb razors tend to have a reputation for being very aggressive, but this is certainly not the case with the Merkur 15c. If anything it feels less aggressive than my Edwin Jagger Chrome-Plated Lined Handle Double-Edge Safety Razor. But that doesn't mean that the Merkur 15c can't give you a close shave. The first time I used the 15c I felt as if I was struggling to get the correct angle, because it was as if the blade wasn't actually in contact with my skin. But once the first pass was done, I was amazed to find that my skin was already really smooth. Although it felt mild, it had actually given me a nice close shave. I was even brave enough to do another pass against the grain - that is something I just can't get away with when using my other razors. So, in summary, if you are the type that really likes to feel the sharpness of the blade against your skin, then I would recommend you stay away from the 15c. But if you want a nice comfortable introduction to open comb safety razors, then you could do a lot worse than trying out the 15c.UPDATE 7/1/14: after a bit more use I've decided to downgrade it to 4 stars rather than 5. The reason: it is perhaps a little bit too lightweight for my liking. Don't get me wrong, it does give a really nice shave, but I've started using the head of the 15c with the handle of my Edwin Jagger DE89 - this gives it a bit more weight and helps it to feel a little bit more aggressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for travelling

    J.M. · 27 July 2023

Top quality product. Handy size for travel - handle maybe a bit short for daily use.The deep comb head is especially comfortable for longer and coarser beards.Maybe a bit expensive at the outset but the savings on using double-edged blades are considerable....

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly mild

    A. · 29 July 2019

I have used this razor with Astra and with Feather blades and with either blade I'd say this razor is mild enough to be used by a novice. For myself I'd say it was fine to use when I'm in a hurry - little risk of nicks - but sometimes I'm going to want something with a bit more bite. The three-piece design and the slim handle make this razor look reminiscent of those ancient aluminium jobs my grandfather owned - however, the steel construction of this model ensures it has a much weightier business-like feel to it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish Razor. Too Small. Feels Cheap. Over Priced.

    K.D. · 1 July 2024

This razor is very small. The open comb design makes it a harsh shave and the head still gets clogged up despite being open comb. I thought the expensive brand name on this razor would make the built a solid metal but it feels very cheap and almost feels to me more like plastic with some metal coating rather then a solid metal build. Overall I am greatly disappointed with this razor. Total rubbish. 0/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best

The best brand of razor bar none . Just buy it

4.0 out of 5 stars A mild razor, good for giving your face a rest when you still need to shave.

    M. · 24 November 2017

This is my third safety razor and first open comb. My other two are the Merkur 33C and 37C (Slant). I find the 15C very mild and have had some difficulty getting a really close shave along my jawline even when fitted with a Feather blade. I can't really figure out why this should be but I do need to take several passes to get to what I like. I am not disappointed with the razor, just surprised that it takes some work to getting a shave as close as my other razors give me. I do find myself reaching for my 33C (usually with an Astra Superior Platinum blade) most regularly with the 37C second and the 15C in last place. Will continue to try different blades to see if I get better results. I think I will also check out some other open comb razors but will leave it a while as initially I changed to DE blade shaving to avoid the cost of cartridge razors but now finding I'm spending lots on different blades, razors and soaps. I expect I'm not the first to have done this.

    A solid performer

    H. · 9 July 2024

This is my first purchase of a safety razor, to replace a Mach 3. The technique is different and it did take me a little time to adjust, but now that I have I love this thing. I still keep my Mach 3 for occasions when I'm in a hurry and really want to avoid any nicks, but in general this is my go to.

    A Great All-Around Razor

    v. · 27 June 2024

A delightful, gentle razor that is slightly more aggressive than the 33C closed comb version, but much better at removing longer hairs as well as providing a wonderfully close shave on the first pass. More often than not, one pass with this razor in the morning and done! I also use it to shave my pubic, chest, and underarm hair, and it handles the task gently and much more efficiently than the 33C. I have yet to suffer any nicks or razor burn with it in contrast to the carnage I used to suffer from multi-blade cartridge razors.Favorite attributes:-- It's a light razor, and you'll get a lot of blade feedback while using it to help keep it at the proper shaving angle. Heavier razor heads and handles tend to absorb whisker-to-blade feedback, so you never really know what's going on between blade and skin.--Don't let the smaller handle fool you, even if you have big meaty hands. Most shavers hold their razors with just the thumb, index, and middle fingers, so you don't need a "rake handle" to hold onto your razor. If you're actually monkey wrench gripping your razor with your entire fist, than it's probably the last thing you should be using. The 15C is a wonderfully balanced razor and the shorter handle makes it highly maneuverable for precise shaving.--The low profile head makes it very easy to shave right under the nose. The razor gets right in there for a clean swipe without a lot of metal getting in the way.--If you do a lot of bodyscaping, then this razor is idea for quickly removing longer hairs, often with one pass. It rinses cleaner and is less likely to clog than a closed comb razor.Of course razors are like religion, and everyone has their favorite that works specifically for them. That being said, this would definitely make a great razor for someone transitioning from multi-blade cartridges. You'll really have to try hard to cut yourself with it.

    Molto buono
