5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and cheerful but still classy looking and respected!

I used to collect Japanese domestic model / iconic seikos such as Sarbs/ monsters etc so used to good quality. Unfortunately had to sell them but recently started reminiscing about my watch hobby. Didn't want to spend big and put off with cheap / tacky budget / 'designer' watches. Also wanted to have something still respected or at least recognisable to knowledgeable watch fans. After researching I felt that a timex weekender was the way to go. Don't want an auto so being quartz (and easily replaceable battery due to low water resistance) it was a great choice. I'm surprised at how classy it looks for the money. The dark brown leather nato seems to suit it perfectly to give a dress/ field watch appeal. Being on a nato it's very easy to change if you fancy transforming the watch. As it is I'd say its smart / casual and perfectly fine for all occasions including when worn with a shirt. The leather nato is thin so probably not very durable but incredibly comfortable. The watch is fairly light so this really is a comfortable watch. I have medium wrists and the 38mm face wears great. Almost in defiance to the modern trend of silly oversized watches that look more like hand clocks! This reminds me of classier watches from classier times. It would definitely be classed as unisex and also suit teenagers/ those with slim wrists. I think I'm at the limit so those with above average/ larger than 7 inch would probably need something slightly wider. The second hand does have a noticeable tick but I find that quite reassuring and welcome as was used to automatics. It's not too load and one could just put in a drawer or close the lid of their watch box if they sleep next to it. It would be too loud for me wear to bed but even though this watch is comfy I'd never wear a watch to bed anyway! Came in a card box/ instructions are downloadable (not sure why you'd need any). Another major (and quite unique) bonus is the superb bright light function. It really is a work of art and makes me baffled why more expensive brands can't manage it! Anyways I will always be a Seiko connoisseur but I have been converted to the Timex fanbase too. It's a timex so should be reliable especially compared to nasty designer watches with basic Chinese movements and a higher price. Comes with warranty and is cheap enough not to worry about. The second markers don't quite hit every second marker but close enough and again who cares at this price point. It seems very accurate as expected. And I have had far more expensive tissot quartz's with eta movements that didn't hit the second markers. So overall buy and enjoy without breaking the bank. Best bang for buck out there 👏

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch!

This looks good, keeps accurate time, and is comfortable to wear. Manufacturer says it's waterproof 'for up to half an hour' under water - so no worries about splashes from washing up, cleaning the car, etc! It has a light up function for checking in the dark, and it's a lovely warm, greenish light, attractive & unusual

4.0 out of 5 stars A gift, but mum loves it.

V. · 2 January 2024

Hard to really write a review given that it was a present for my mum's birthday some time ago, but I'll try and summarise her thoughts on it here. It's easy to read and has a nice comfortable strap, though both her and I agreed said strap feels kinda cheap and flimsy. The build quality is rather nice though it eschews stainless steel for a cheaper chrome plated brass construction alongside a mineral glass crystal. I suppose at this price point that could be the best you'll get. I'm a bit disappointed at the 30 metre water resistance rating for the price (I paid about £50) but that doesn't matter to her. It's up to you whether that matters or not.The Indiglo backlight is honestly the best part of this thing in my opinion. It evenly lights up the entire watch face (save for the outer bezel where the second markers are) and my mum loves it.The only major criticism we both have is that it's loud. The ticking is so loud that mum can hear it across her bedroom at night and she has to put it in a drawer. It seems that's just how it is with the Weekenders.Overall? Yeah, I think it's great and mum does too. They're great presents. Sure, the chrome plated brass will wear away faster than stainless steel (or even resin, I suppose) but it looks good and I think for £50 it's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you’ve been told about this watch is true

J.C. · 26 February 2024

The Timex weekender is one of the iconic modern classics from Timex, along with the easy reader and expedition models. It’s a simple, no nonsense, tried and tested watch that’s been around for years.Unlike many of the strange sounding brand names of similar price on Bolo, the design is original to Timex and been around for decades.I own some much more expensive Swiss made watches that are very good, but take themselves far too seriously. This is a fun watch that Timex actively encourage you to customise with different canvas slip through nato style straps. It’s called the weekender and it will suit most average people’s weekend activities. It’s a great size for the average wrist and would work well as a unisex watch to share with your partner. What I particularly enjoy is the utter simplicity of the watch, not minimalist contrived simplicity but genuine simplicity. I can’t imagine that there was a moody black and white advertising campaign when this watch was released, extolling how they have removed all unnecessary frills leaving only the essence of a watch, in fact there was likely no advertising campaign at all! It’s made of basic materials, chrome plated brass case, uncoated mineral crystal, fully printed dial, no lume (you don’t need it, the back light is way better). Oh and it ticks really loud! It’s far from the best watch you can get, but it’s all the watch you actually need and this is the whole point of it.I love that it’s time only too, so you don’t even have to set the date every few months. It is the antithesis of luxury and this is precisely why I like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fab watch at a decent price

This is a great little watch that looks good at a low price. The fact you can switch straps is cool and it looks great on the wrist.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrist Strap is Already degrading and Painful to wear.

Z. · 14 October 2024

I have bought the watch less than a month ago and the small strings in the wrist strap are already coming out. Bear in mind I haven't even worn the watch for an extended period of time and this is happing. The small fibers of the string dig into your wrist and make it impossible to wear without any discomfort. This is extremely disappointing as Timex is such a respected brand and I did not expect this what so ever. This was my first time purchasing a Timex piece and may well be the last.

É o famoso bom, bonito e barato!

Uso o relógio diariamente e ele é muito confortável, não é grande, é muito bonito e ao mesmo tempo é discreto. O recurso Indiglo da Timex faz muita diferença!

Bueno, bonito y barato…

Timex Weekender - Truly My Weekend Watch!

M.B. · 20 August 2024

Love, Love, Love this watch! The watch itself is not bulky nor is it thin. It's not cumbersome like some of my dive watches. It's got a classic no -nonsense look to it. The band is comfortable and machine washable (although I get better results with handwash). The color-scheme goes with pretty much anything I wear from jeans to tux. AND it's got INDIGLO! I can't stress enough how great this proprietary feature of Timex for dial illumination is and makes the watch that more pleasing as well as functional. I wish my other watches had a similar feature. A pet project for this watch is to buy other 38mm NATO bands and have them on a rotation.Pros:Classic analog design with military time.Comfortable NATO band.Grey - 0range color scheme goes well with pretty much anything.INDIGLO dial illuminationCons:The Timex audible noise! tic-tic-ticTime hands are pretty basic.Water resistance of 30m not up to more adventurous standards (of 100m to 200m).
