I was delighted to finally own a full set of the Premier after testing three singles. It's important to note these are the ones manufactured in Mexico, changing the quality of the pencil and the width of pencil ever so slightly. The originals are nicer however very hard to get hold of as singles and I haven't seen a set at all. Despite these feeling cheaper to their predecessors and in comparison to Faber Castell Polychromos, they are still every inch a wonderful pencil. I use them for art and colouring regularly, getting used to the difference blending with a wax to an oil. These are wax based pencils and allow for amazing blending abilities, laying down colour vividly and well on a range of smooth and toothy paper. Some cheaper wax pencils don't lay down well, these are very creamy and easy to use. If you're not used to wax pencils ... persist, I did and I love them. It always takes some time getting used to a new pencil brand, especially if you aren't a full time artist.Being wax they do wear down faster than my oil pencils, however it is easy to buy single stock online and Bolo often do great deals on some of the smaller sets.People often complain about pencil tip breakage - this is something I was deeply concerned about before buying my own. There really is no need from concern - at least from my experience of both my single and these. Find a sharpener that suits you .. I've tested many and my favourite is the TGAAL - using the number 1 setting keeping the tip short and protected but still are a fine point. I've had one breakage so far and this happens to my other pencils too sometimes. The blending ability allows you to make a whole new range of colours from what you already have. The colour choice is one of the largest out there. The skin colours are particularly versatile. The lilacs and pinks have a bit of a better selection than the Polychromos. (I used these for comparison as they are my other top end pencil set, which I also love and use regularly.)The only con to mention is that several of the pencils arrive with hairline cracks down their bodies - I've heard of this from several places and it says the pencil will often break fully at a later date. The good news is I told Bolo, the refunded me an amount suitable to cover the cost of me buying the singles elsewhere. I appreciate this was inconvenient and at the time I would have probably given 4 stars. It does reflect on the cheaper build but there is nothing we can do about this, except hope Sanford change their manufacture which is unlikely, or boycott them until they do, lol this is unlikely to make a difference.I got these at a good price when purchasing, it fluctuates so keep an eye on it :).I adore these pencils ... so despite a few cons they still get a 5 from me. I would buy the full set again in the future should I need to.I've added a finished picture of mine to show you what they can do. This piece is from Johanna Basfords Secret Garden.
5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice pencils to use if you like a soft pencil
I was a little concerned having read bad reports of the quality of Prismacolors made in Mexico - however when my set arrived I was a bit more reassured and none of my pencils are suffering from cracked wood. I've bought these as a replacement for my old Karismacolor pencils which are no longer made and having just done myself a swatch chart, I'm happy with the performance and the colours - which really do match the old Karismacolors like for like. Yes, the discontinued Lilac and Lavender colours are missing (due to a pigment problem apparently) replaced with an extra white and a blender pencil (which works nicely). Being super critical - the wood isn't as good quality as my older pencils (Karismacolors were made of lovely wood), but this seems common now in most pencil brands. Some of the printing of colour numbers on the pencil barrels is smudged and a bit hard to read, and yes - you need to sharpen these pencils very carefully to avoid lead breakage as they are super soft. Having said that you really don't need much pressure to lay down plenty of colour, and the pencils blend really well. There is a really good selection of grey tones and flesh tones included which is nice.
5.0 out of 5 stars Genuine product
Waited and waited for these pencils to be reduced after Christmas so I could afford the large set, checked every 2 days sometimes daily they really do fluctuate! I wanted to make sure I bought from a reputable site as so many rip offs you hear about. My wait was worth it, arrived well packaged and quickly I was so pleased they appears to be no transit damage I haven’t used every pencil yet but so far no breakages.Love the pencils, soft creamy and blend well just as I was hoping I’m no expert but I seem to get a better finish with these pencils and easy to use. Price is good if you can save for the large set just over a pound a pencil which compares well to other well known brands. Highly recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars I'm in love
I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful these really are, I've tried so many different types of pencils and found some that were good and even great but then I found prismacolors, WOW, just magnificent!!!!! They transform the pictures I do into looking like something good, anything that can make ME look like a half decent artist has something very special let me tell you. These are an absolute MUST BUY for all levels of artists, beginners, intermediate, advanced, colouring book lovers, they will work for anything and everything your heart/mind/soul wishes to create. They are easy to use, they blend so beautifully and effortlessly, it's an absolute JOY using them, the only thing I will stress however? you MUST use a really high quality sharpener (there are some that work better than others for these pencils whilst others will just mangle, chew up and eat them away) so do some research and find the best sharpeners to suit these beauties and you'll not go wrong. You'll get the best from these pencils if you do this, and sharpen them with gentle love and care, because like everything beautiful they are fragile and delicate and need to be handled with love, not thrown around and mishandled, as they won't respond well to that. Happy creating <3

In my book, the best of all...
This review might be long but I think it will inform you about few details related to pencils in general as well as it will do for the Prismacolor Premier.I was so young when I started to color that I cannot tell when was the first time I took a coloring pencil in my hand and I’m close to my seventies today. Now, as far as I remember, the Prismacolor brand have always been my number one favorite of all. And the Premier pencils, well, are a dream. I’ m so happy and confident every time I’m using them. The colors are so rich and the cores are so soft that they blend like no other. But there is also a negative point about that fact. The core is so soft that if you are one who generally put pressure on the pencil to get its darker tone right away, the pencils won’t last. I’m not the kind that will put too much pressure on her pencils, nonetheless, I also often use the second version of them : the Scholars 60 pencils box. And here is what I already said in a review about the Scholars :‘’ I’m a senior lady who love coloring. I have a collection of about 30 books and enjoy a pencil that gives me possibility to create a large variation of tones. So I’m using a lot of pencils and I do have many different sets from many different manufacturers. Although the Premier are the first one on the list of the best pencils of all, these Scholars are the ones that I do prefer because they still blend easily with the 5 different colors that I tried so far, they are for most of them as beautiful than the Premier, they last longer and the pricing is more affordable... ‘’This said, there’s another important plus point to mention about the Prismacolor brand, Premier and Scholars. Decades ago, every crafting and art stores were offering to buy these pencils one pencil at the time and they were offering almost every color. And if you search around you, even today you still can find some of those stores that are still selling them this way. So, you can easily replace one or two or more color pencils without having to buy a new box. Now, let’s talk about sharpeners and soft core pencils. First, I don’t care about sharpeners, I usually buy the cheapest ones on the market. The last one I got is coming from a One dollar Store, I’m using it for years and it still working perfectly with all the pencil brands that I have, including my Raffine to name only this other one. Why ?... Well, the truth is that it doesn't matter the brand of the soft core pencils you intending to buy or using, if you hit or drop them, the core is broken. And this is mostly the one reason why they seems to break doesn't matter the sharpener you use. My aunt was a professional painter and she’s the one who educated me about it. I was very young when I learned that fact and it was pissing me off every time I dropped one, so I made it a habit to use a cup or a small pot to place them in while coloring so they don’t roll down the table, on the floor. If you receive a box that contains several pencils with broken cores, there’s a pretty good chance that the box has been severely hit or dropped and if that had happened to me, I would have asked for a box replacement. That simple. It is the reason why I take such a good care of my pencils. I don’t share them either. I always keep extra boxes for the kids, I provide some jars and they are also educated about that fact.Prismacolor Premier are expensive pencils, but coloring with them is always such a marvelous experience. Go for it, you won’t regret your purchase. But they are true soft cores. Keep that in mind.
Excellent
