I've used this for years and it's a great product. Tastes just the same as sugar. I use in baking as well as my coffee.

Around 8 months ago I was diagnosed as type 2 uncontrolled diabetic with dangerously high levels of sugar in my blood.I was immediately placed on metformin and had to make a lot of changes to my diet, mainly cutting out fruits and being more aware of sugar content in foods generally.I researched online and found several sugar alternatives for my daily coffees (breakfast and lunch) which were the only thing I added sugar to directly for the past 15 yrs (2 spoons).I had already been using half-spoon for a couple of years so it was pretty obvious that that hadn't been of any help.I tried Stevia but I found I needed around four times the dosage to equal the same sweetness and the aftertaste was vile and long lasting so Stevia was out.I tried regular sweeteners but the sweetness they offered tasted too different from sugar for me to enjoy my coffee plus they usually left a ring of scum in my coffee so I abandoned them.I tried syrups such as agave and brown rice which but they seemed to affect my sugar level a bit too much but I do still use them occasionally with porridge. My next trial was xylitol which is one of the more expensive alternatives but for me worked perfectly. Most sweeteners have a laxative effect and this one is no different, it hasn't been an issue for me as I usually have between two and four teaspoons a day maximum. This also means that for my usage it doesn't feel too expensive as a 1kg bag usually lasts for 2 months. The taste whilst not identical to sugar is by far the closest for me and offers a similar dosage level for the same sweetness. Whilst there is an aftertaste, it is a lot better than some of the others when combined with coffee. It dissolves similar to sugar but does seem to have a lower burning point so if baking with it just be aware of timing.Since using Xylitol, combined with some dietary changes and metformin I was classed as pre-diabetic again within a few months so I am 100% happy with the product. There was one occasion where I had 4 coffees with xylitol in a day and it definitely affected my IBS so moderation is definitely the word of the day. There are also some days when I suffer from some bloating and wind but I suspect this is probably due to the combination of xylitol with other sweeteners and additives in drinks and food throughout the day.All in all I think for me this is a great sugar substitute.

Xyltol is my "go to" sweetener as I am diabetic. It looks just like sugar and you use it in exactly the same way. Excellent for baking etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tastes like sugar!

I brought a small bag locally to try as I was told it tasted just like sugar and I wasn't so sure. But not only did it my kids, who thought I'd lost the plot giving them sugar, believe it was just that! My husband has converted to this instead of honey in his tea! This was a choice made years ago as sugar causes him terrible heartburn honey was better for him but didn't solve the problem but now no more heartburn and hubs can't taste any sweetener flavour in his tea at all! It's defo cheaper to buy in a large bag like this than in the local shops.
