What a wonderful piece of kit this is. I have an old H.D. Panasonic plasma tv in the conservatory and although there are usb sockets none of the sockets were able to cope with large file sizes I wanted it to play. Now I can play MP4 movies on this device up to 2TB. It really is fantasticItem with great options not just MP4. It really is plug and play just as it says on the "tin". Also it has great connection options such as H.D.and RGB leads and remote control ,but not a HD cable . I had a spare HD lead and plugged it into a HD port on the back of the T.V. and through the device settings I was able to get the T.V.s full resolution of 1080p definition (Good enough for my 72 years eyes) ?It works a treat with a 64GB USB with 30 movies on it and the devices on screen software organise the files in alphabetical order if they are named. The kit is portable as well and can play on any T.V. Maybe on holiday after a hard day on the beach ! Without a doubt I can fully recommend this device, its so simple to use, just like me. !

1.0 out of 5 stars Lacks 4K Support and Struggles with 1080p

    I.M. · 2 August 2024

This player does not support 4K movies and does not play half my files, To make matters worse, it even struggles with 1080p movie formats. Playback is often choppy, with frequent buffering and lag, making it impossible to enjoy a smooth viewing experience. The remote control is extremely unreliable and practically useless. It often fails to register inputs, requiring multiple presses to get a response. This makes navigating through menus and controlling playback an exercise in frustration. While the build quality and design are passable, they do not compensate for the poor performance and unreliable remote.this media player falls short of expectations. It doesn't support 4K movies and does not support lot of files format , struggles even with 1080p content, and the remote is frustratingly unreliable.

i have an old xenta media player like this and have used an old sumvision micro 2 in the past. some videos i had would not play no matter how i converted them!i needed a simple media player that would simply begin playing videos in a list over and over all day without having to press anything else.this one is perfect!you can set the setting to autoplay as soon as it powers on. you dont even need to press power on for it to power up. once it recieves power it turns on and begins playing the first video in your list!and then it plays the next video then with no problems and you can resize them on the screen to make it fit.cant fault it really. nice solid design. doesnt feel too warm so the components inside should last a while.played mostly all video formats ive thrown at it and it just works without any hassle.its perfect since a lot of players today focus on streaming or when they can play media files you almost always have a software hurdle such as no ability to play the next video on its own (you have to press a button) etc.this is great if say you have kids and a load of video files to keep them entertained and need a player that would just keep on playing until you press stop.or just have media files you need to play but they wont play on all your other devices.it connects via hdmi and has an rca cable so you can watch modern video files on an old tv setup

4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty neat piece of kit

    J.S. · 28 September 2019

Overall, I think this is a pretty neat piece of kit – reasonably priced, pocket-sized and does the job adequately. However, it does have a few annoying niggles that prevent it from getting five stars.Firstly the user documentation is very poor – just one folded piece of paper and 90% of what it tells you is obvious anyway. When I first used the player, it flatly refused to play some of my files that played perfectly on my PC. After a frustrating couple of weeks I solved the problem by reformatting my disc drive from NTFS to FAT (not mentioned in the documentation). The user interface is very basic – just a list of folders and filenames. With over 200 movies on my disc drive it’s essential that they are named and organised sensibly, as there’s no search or index facility to help you find what you’re looking for.I like to have subtitles on when I watch a movie, so I was quite impressed when it automatically picked up and displayed my .srt subtitle files – however the font size was so small I had to move my chair nearer to the TV in order to read them, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to change the size.I haven’t had any problem with large files, as reported by other reviewers. My largest file is 5GB which plays OK. Overall I’m pretty happy with this player.PS. 7/10/19 Just worked out how to change subtitle size using OSD, so my only real complaint is with the poor user instructions (still haven't worked out how to use Repeat and GoTo functions).

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware

Brought this newer model as the last similar model I brought had worked well and a friend wished to try out the experience for herself. Sadly the newer model is not a patch on the older similar model.Despite following the instructions, trying various formats and different memory cards including the max the newer device can (allegedly) support (128Gb) it refused to play anything, I accept there will always be failures when it comes to mass producing devices so perhaps the company who manufactures this device should have a better quality control in place. It’s interface on screen is clunky, slow and very unresponsive to the remote control supplied, on more than one occasion it appeared to turn itself on when I was using my TV remote control. In total I spent hours to 3am trying everything I know to get media to play on my TV screen. I’m a moderately experienced IT person and have worked on many systems over many years, to say this device was frustrating would be the understatement of the century. Finally, I did read all reviews and research throughly before making this purchase, of my experience with many devices over many years you do have failures and this device was one of those.

Excellent option to replace my old WD media player.

This device works just fine. It is a lot more affordable than other contemporary devices. My only concern is that it doesn't seem to have a screen saver built in. I can live with that though.

    Totalmente Recomendable

    J.S. · 19 September 2022

    Perfect

    Perfect in-car entertainment solution

    H.T. · 30 August 2021

Met een alternatief kabeltje aangesloten op de USB-voorziening in de auto. Na wat kleine aanpassingen in de configuratie, werkt 't nu perfect als in-car entertainment oplossing. Auto starten en de muziek of films starten binnen 5 seconden.

Really nice piece of tech for the modern media junkie!

This is a very handy little set top box device that lets you play downloaded media content from your phone, tablet, or PC. It will play music mp3s, it will play movie or video mp4 and mkv files. (And other formats like 3gp, etc.) It will also display your jpeg photos you take on your phone or even your premium digital camera. It will do this all on your TV and home theater receiver. (If you want hifi quality sound with your videos and music.) Only thing is, you need to know what this thing will and won't do. Firstly I will mention my complaint... This device was intended for use in UK or country using HDMI standard with 50hz. But America uses 60hz HDMI frequency. So the device defaults to 50hz for UK. So when you hook up your American TV to it. It will automatically detect it and work fine. But later if you happen to change video output either in settings or the remote by accidentally hitting one of those video output buttons, you will be left with a black screen with no way to get back even if you press HDMI button. Because it then just defaults to 50hz and not 60hz output. Now if you have this device hooked up via the red white and yellow rca cables, there will be no issue like this. But video quality will only be good as a high end vcr. But it will still look great. People that have to have the highest res images will want the HDMI hookup. I myself am not that finicky. But anyway, to resolve the issue with the black screen after changing video input (HDMI) you have to disconnect power source and reconnect to reset it and then it will redetect the TV. It is in settings a switch for on or off auto detect HDMI but does not work! So that sucks. They need to fix that. And another problem people are having is the device not playing videos. There is a strange thing about this device in which it will only play vids saved in FAT32 format on your sd card slot. It will NOT play videos saved on exfat format (SD card slot). No matter what card you use except sdhc cards. This is a complicated thing and not for the lay person. But I do have the answer. Use only 32gb or less sd cards. They are the sdhc standard and only save in FAT32. So vids saved on this size card will play fine. If you use a 64gb or higher sd card, it can be used. But you have to do the following... Buy a sd card reader. (It is a small thumb drive looking device that has an SD card slot on the side.) And insert your sdxc card in it and then the reader into the USB port of your media player. Works fine! I have used 256gb micro SD cards (in an SD card adapter) and it plays my exfat format storage just fine but only in the USB port (for the thumb drive). I don't know why it will accept exfat storage on the USB port but not the SD card slot. I learned this from a lot of trial and error. So I am giving sound advice on this I promise. But if you want to chock a bunch of movies on this micro DVR haha and have all your ripped and bootleg movies at your fingertips and discard your dvd player, this is the way to go and I love it. So I give this device 5 stars despite the flaws. All you need to do to play tons of movies worry free, is buy a nice large SanDisk Cruiser Glide thumb drive (128 or 256 gigs) and fill it with your media either with a PC or use an otg cable connected to your phone or tablet. (An otg cable is a short micro USB plug on one end and big USB standard female Jack on other end) effectively making your phone's charging port a real USB port. (Phone must have ability to move media via the charging port and some low end phones do not allow this.) Then you can move your downloaded content to a thumb drive. Hope this info helps. I just wanted to help the lay person who knows little about this alternative way of enjoying tv and music. 😎
