5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a SATA card that just works!
Added this to my media PC to support more than the 4 ports that the motherboard has, instantly recognised and supported in Windows 11, no messing about trying to find drivers like with so many other options.Performance is pretty good too. No complaints from me at all.
5.0 out of 5 stars A B C, it's easy as 1 2 3, as simple as Do Re Mi, A B C, 1 2 3
second one! Excellent piece of kit at this price. Plug it in, away it goes. Absolutely no problem. I note I paid the same price for a 4 port version in 2015. Only reason I'm replacing is to increase the RAID and I was running 2 of those 4 ports on the same board and the system was not 100% happy - generally disputes over rights with USB3, but that's my motherboard, not the cards.
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and stable
It has been working away in my computer for a while now without issue
5.0 out of 5 stars Great product. Fast. Reliable. Excellent.
My second one of these. Fast. Reliable. Easy to set up. What more can I say. If you need raid 0, 1 or 10 done cheaply. This is the card for you. My first card has two raid 1’s with ssd’s. My second card has a raid 10 with 4 x 500GB hybrid drives. Reliable and fast.
1.0 out of 5 stars Card simply does not work as advertised.
Installed onto a Windows 7 x64 Home Premium SP2 rig (all updates), installed drivers and rebooted. Installed four SSD's, ran AS-SSD bench to find throughput was 8MB/s, that's right 8MB/s!!!!I contacted their tech support to be told "we don't understand why it's doing that, we'll forward the problem to our design team but we can't help you". I spent nye on a full day experimenting with different configurations, different cables and drives and no luck at all. I took the card to a different machine to see if it was a compatibility issue with my rig, but the problem persisted. With a single drive the performance is spot on for Sata III, with a Crucial M500 240GB I received the advertised speeds of 480MB/s read 270MB/s Write.Avoid this card at all costs, if you seriously need RAID look at an Adaptec SAS controller, yes they cost three times as much but they are reliable and work exactly as advertised and come with fantastic product support.
5.0 out of 5 stars It works
It works. Not much else to say really.
2.0 out of 5 stars Problems with Windows 11 for Workstations
I was looking for a simple non-raid storage solution that would allow me to connect some SATA SSDs then create a single storage space using the standards Windows configuration tools. Device manager recognised the card but connecting one or more SSDs resulted in a really slow boot into Windows. Once inside, the standards create volume/formatting tools crashed with BSoD when attempting to create volumes from any of the SSDs connected to the card. Updated drivers and new cables did not solve the problem. I switched to a LSI card flashed in IT mode which seems to be the preferred non-raid option for Windows, in my case, this solution worked perfectly.
5.0 out of 5 stars Small and easy to setup
Nice addition to motherboard with out sata3Main issue for me was accidentally formatting a drive 1tbwirh every thing lost via its webui with hybrid ssd..
Works as advertised - plug and play - recognized by Unraid.
I am converting an older PC rig to a NAS device since I didn’t want to shell out money for a new case and mobo. Current mobo supports 6 SATA connections, 1 of which is shared with already installed NVME drives, and another which is used by a DVD ROM device. Had 4 3.5in HDs already installed, but added a StarTech 3-bay enclosure, for a total of 7 HDs. Then added 2 SSDs for cache, bringing the total SATA ports needed to 9. This StarTech expansion card was perfect for my needs. Installed this card in an available PCIe slot, connected the drives, and Unraid recognized them right away. Just like with the StarTech 3-bay enclosure, this card costs more than some similar cards out, but my experience with StarTech products has always been positive and of proven quality, so I chose these as part of my criteria for purchasing. Recommend!!
Worked perfectly for my needs.
Used this to create a raid 1 ssd drive mirror for a small file server we put in a small office. Works like a charm and gives us peace of mind that beside regular backups the data is being protected with a redundant drive.
plug and play!
got this to replace some other brand of pci-to-sata port card. that old card was frustrating to find drivers for if the installation disk was misplaced and the pc didn't really seem to like the card anyway. this startech one is expensive but it works great! i have a triple boot windows 7/10/11 pc and it works perfectly on all of the OSs, even windows 7, without having to find drivers. highly recommended!
Does what I had hoped plus a bonus!
First let me say that I've always had good luck with StarTec products and the one time I didn't, they were very helpful and quickly replaced what turned out to be a defective item. I purchased this card in hopes of giving me increased speeds on my internal drives. I have an older Dell 690 Workstation that runs on legacy bios so I was getting Sata 1st generation speeds from the motherboard. While I'm not getting full generation 3 speeds with this adapter, they're considerably faster and there's an unexpected bonus. My motherboard will only recognize drives up to 2TB so I've always been limited in the amount of storage I could install. This pcie card allows my PC to read much higher capacity drives. I've recently installed a WD Black 8TB and a HGST Ultrastar 12TB and both work beautifully at full storage capacity. Not what I purchased it for but it has definitely been a pleasant and welcome surprise. I only wish I could boot my Samsung SSD OS drive from it, but again, my PC is legacy and there's no bios setting for pcie boot. Inspite of that, I'm more than happy with this purchase.
Great macOS-compatible JBOD card
Plugged in, plays, and off to races. This Startech 8P6G-PCIE-SATA-CARD is modeled after LSI HBA and provides SAS-style cabling and reliable drive connections. This is a SATA card, it does not support SAS.Pros:• Works natively with macOS (I'm using Monterey), no additional driver required.• Also Windows and Linux support.• Adds 8 ports, JBOD.• Supports SMART.• Includes SFF-8087 mini-SAS to SATA data cables, which will work with any SATA drive.• Cables included are standard SATA length, 0.5 meter.• Supports SATA port multiplier for additional ports.• Ports run at drive speed as expected, no glitches.Cons:• Not bootable, UEFI does not see connected drive EFI partitions.Notes:• Supports any size drive per SATA spec (this question is perennial).• Drive power cabling not included.• I am using longer 1 meter SFF-8087 cables for a large case with no problem.• I am using a Bewinner port multiplier, ADP6ST0-J05 SATA3 4-port Expansion Card: 1 source port, 5 drive ports, which expands by 4 ports for a total of 12 drives connected to this Startech.• Using a port multiplier means upstream link capacity is shared with all downstream drives: plan your storage layout accordingly. I am seeing drives run at speed over (e.g., 130+ MB/s sustained) to spinning drives over the multiplier.Final words:• This Startech is solid going in.• Before getting this card, I've tried two other PCIe SATA cards with typical SATA cabling (non-SAS) and both were totally unreliable, not detecting drives on some ports, CRC errors on detected ports, caused drive data corruption.• I also tried an LSI 9207-8i which is completely reliable and bootable, but it's not batively supported by macOS, which I need.
