5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute steal!
I have been into hi-fi for the last 30 years. I was recently asked by a friend about this amp as he wanted something cheap to go with an internet radio. He wanted it to power an old pair of mission speakers. I was not aware that this sort of product was available, and for the price I was very sceptical. However the reviews piqued my interest and at £18.53 delivered I decided to buy one and have a play. The seller said it would arrive a few weeks later between 21/1/17 and 31/1/17. It duly arrived on 21/1/17. It was very well packaged and when opened I was surprised by the build quality of the amp, much better than I expected. All the amp controls worked smoothly and even the spring clip cable connecters were good. The power supply unit seems also to be well made with the exception of the UK mains plug which can easily be changed. The specs for the amp stated 20 amps RMS but the amp says 25 watts! Also as well as the single stereo phono input there is a shared 3.5mm jack I put. I connected the amp to a pair of what dale diamond 9s with 43 strand cable and a QED Bluetooth puck into the phono input. Using a Google Nexus 7 and Spotify premium I sat down to listen. I started with the amp in direct mode, the tone controls out of circuit but was disappointed by the flat thin sound that I was greeted with. I switched the tone controls into circuit and continued to play. First up some reggae to test the bass. Notching the bass showed this little amp is not shy with deep bass, considering the size of the speakers very impressive. My wife swore I had the subwoofer turned on. I settled on bass to 1 oclock as this gave a good response over a wide range of musical genres without any booming. With the treble I also ended at 1 oclock. Over the few days I have been listening I am absolutely blown away by the sound quality occurred from such a small cheap unit. If it was packaged in a full sized case with a £200 price tag I would not be disappointed. I am now listening to Jessica Hoop, kismet acoustic, and this sounds as good as my Arcam solo, if not better, lovely open midrange. I was initially worried that with a cheap power supply that the noise floor would be intrusive but no, silence in the quiet passages. I cannot comment on reliability or longevity or the various other amps that are similar, mine is LP-V3S,not actually the model I ordered. All I can say is that this little amp is an absolute bargain, size isn't everything.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works better than expected
For the price of this amp I wasn't expecting much except for something that would run my speakers at an acceptable level. But this amp actually sounds really nice and the tone controls work very nicely Indeed
4.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money
I purchased this for use with PC and separate speakers. Does an excellent job. Quality of sounds is good. Well worth considering for a cheaper amplification solution
5.0 out of 5 stars Very capable little amp
I was looking for a basic amp to power old bookshelf speakers. This is the only budget amp that came with a power supply. Glad I didn’t pick up a second hand AV amp from elsewhere for a much higher price. I would recommend this to anyone looking to bring life back to old speakers on a budget. I also managed to add a subwoofer (mains powered) - one speaker wire from each of the channel used for the bookshelf speakers. No issues at all - very loud!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money little amplifier
To start with, I do like my audio. Even my PC has a stereo Yamaha amp, sub and Bowers and Wilkins speaker. My garage has a Rotel amp with Wharfedale speakers, and I have a few other systems scattered around the house, usually much bigger than these two (B&W 683 based 5.1 surround / Denon amped setups). So I can appreciate good sound quality. With that said, what I needed here didn't need to be "as impressive". I repurposed a pair of B&W M1 speakers and a Chromecast Audio to supply the hifi for my Kitchen. But my old Arcam Alpha A65 stopped working. So while I had that stripped out the system to investigate, I bought this cheap little amp to keep the sounds going. And I must say, it's certainly good enough to the point that I haven;t even started to look at the Arcam yet. Moreover, I am seriously considering swapping out my Yamaha for one of these (or something like it, since this doesn't have a sub-out).I have bumped the Bass and Treble a bit from neutral. For my tastes with these small speakers, this seemed to dial it in just right. For me. In my kitchen mostly listening to talk radio, but the occasional Spotify / Techno DJ mix.I've only had a week now, and so can't currently comment on longevity. But for my use case, the sound quality is very good. Much better than I expected for the price (£26 when I bought in January 2022). It would probably cost way more to fix my Arcam, which I didn't feel gave me anything over this little amp. Again, for my use case.So overall, pretty happy with this. And if my Rotel (RA-03) in the garage didn't sound so good, something like this would work perfectly there too. I probably wouldn't use it as a main hifi amp right enough, but for almost everything else, it would be great.
5.0 out of 5 stars Little but powerful.
My other half said it's just what he needed for his decs. It's small but powerful.
3.0 out of 5 stars Below average sound but ok overall
Its cheap.. not badly put together but the sound isnt great. Mushy and a little muffled. It was quite a bit better than another mini amp I tried but still below average... a lot worse than my receiver, although this costs significantly more of course. Which after all the excellent reviews I was hoping for better. This is not "as good as a £600+ amp" You dont get something for nothing unfortunately.. but I did hope it would be basic and sound good enough.. but it doesnt. If you want an amp to power some cheap speakers you already have for background music this is a really good option. Its decently loud for a small to medium room. If you want the music thats coming out to be excellent then I would probs recommend ether buying some headphones or spending quite a bit more on a basic amp from a well known brand or some studio monitors if your after compact. The difference is really quite significant.
1.0 out of 5 stars Constant Buzzing sound
Nothing wrong with my speakers or record player, but had a constant buzzing noise that won’t go away, also has a really low max sound, I was really optimistic about this one but don’t waste your money!!
Good product
Received next day, exactly as it was promised. No damage, neat cardboard box with foam insert for power supply and main module. Everything looks pretty accurate.I was using this amp with PC listening Bolo prime music, CD discs and also with Raspberry Pi + DAC hat.Sound quality is surprisingly good in both cases. Not super hi-end of course, but much better than I expected for this price range. Definitely worth money and serve the purpose.
Not delivered with correct power plug
Unfortunately this device was delivered with a UK power unit, instead of a power supply with a euro plug. This 'feature' was not described or warned so I assumed Dutch customers would get a suitable plug... Would like to get into contact with supplier to get the correct power cord for the Netherlands
Cheap, simple and worked great
Edited. It is cheap, small amplifier with good sound. It worked perfectly, until left channel started to have sound problem. I played music loud for few seconds, not ridiculously loud, and some overload protection turned sound off. After that, it still works but left channel is damaged. Amplifier has clear sound, it looks good, but was not able to handle loud listening. It did that actually few times, but finally got damaged. And one thing, one speaker connector broke in the very beginning.
