Good cable, make sure you buy the right RJ45 plugs though
Notes and Observations* Cable appears to be well made* Cable is heavy* I did not encounter any defects (broken connections) in my cable runs so far* The spool I ordered came intact, but I can't comment to the build quality of the spool since I pulled my cable off it manually.* Is solid copper as advertised* Because the cable is thicker (for obvious reasons), be aware that the wire is a little harder to work with if you need to feed the wire into a security camera. Depending on the make, model and method of connection, you might want to skip the strain relief, as it can cause more problems than it solves.* Outside jacket is black, not dark-grey (at least to my eyes)* To avoid problems with RJ45 jacks, buy good ones that can handle 23 AWG. I used the Platinum Tools 100010C EZ-RJ45 connectors (ASIN: B000FI9VU2). Cheaper noname jacks might advertise 23AWG but be tight fit, if they fit at all.* Also, if you want to save yourself headaches, make sure you have a network cable tester. It will catch any flaws in the wires or mistakes that you make.
My favorite CAT6 cable
This is my favorite CAT6 cable. Solid copper, not CCA/Copper Clad aluminum which isn't even to CAT6 spec. It's also waterproof/resistant, rated for direct burial. So if you need to run this cable outdoors, you can. Personally, I prefer to still run any kind of cable through conduit so you can pull more as needed, but nice to have the option.I actually prefer this cable for inside jobs as well, due to the incredible durability that comes with the extra shielding. It holds up to dragging across semi-sharp surfaces pretty well (like rough conduit ends). This also includes the plastic core for twist retention, as well as a fine nylon pull string that helps relieve tension off the actual copper.Remember that the maximum cable length for Gigabit networks is 100 meters (328 feet). If you need to go longer than that, you'll need to put an inline repeater or switch for each 100m leg. (I usually just install an Ethernet switch, which are pretty cheap.) If you need a super long range pull (up to about a mile), look for a VDSL2 Ethernet Extender, which are also available here at Bolo. These usually max out at 100Mbps fast Ethernet though. If you're pulling cable for a 10G base T connection (10,000Mbps), the maximum distance is 55 meters. The TIA/EIA spec pull tension (how hard you can yank the wire) is 25 foot pounds. In practice that's probably harder than you'll actually want to pull, since this wire has a slight tendency to knot up around obstacles . My biggest concern is usually not kinking the cable; but I also usually pull alone. Having a second set of hands would help that problem a lot. Also, this cable is about 1/4" in diameter, so considerably fatter than other cat5 cable. I use a foot long 3/8" drill bit for most entry/exit holes, and it works great. This wire is NOT shielded (UTP, unsheilded twisted pair), so you want to be careful running it along power wires, florescent lights, and the like especially on long runs. If you need to put this in a cable tray, conduit, or trench alongside a power line, look for STP or FTP cable. Dripstone has a 1000 ft spool of direct bury FTP (foiled twisted pair) available here on Bolo for another $50 or so which would be my choice for that. Dripstone 1000ft CAT6 Bare Copper FTP (Foiled Twisted Pair) Direct Burial Solid Ethernet Cable 23AWG CMX Outdoor Waterproof Wire HDPE insulated Polyethylene FTP isn't as good as STP though (Shielded Twisted Pair), which has each of the 4 pairs shielded individually, which helps prevent crosstalk. Check pictures of the individual cables if you can though, because often STP is used interchangeably with FTP by manufacturers. This comes on a spool--if you want it to feed easily, stick the spool on a broom handle suspended between two chairs, or even across the open cardboard box (might have to use a little tape to keep it in place). If you're in a pinch without a broom, just flip the spool on it's side in the box and pull up. Personally, I'm a big fan of spools instead of easy-pull boxes, because the cable NEVER tangles on a spool like it sometimes does in the boxes. To me, this VIVO 1000 cable spool is the sweet spot. I know I can use it for any job I need (indoor or outdoor), and it will work great and pull easy. Solid outdoor cat6 cable
I used this for wiring of my ip cctv ip cameras. The wire was layed from inside to the attic to the outside of the building. I used 3 rolls of the 1000 foot wire. I made both end of the wire and first tested with a rj45 tester. There were no breaks in the wire.Pros: weather proof, waterproof, solid copper, easily achieves gigabit speeds, no problems with poe.Cons: the nuts holding the central rods of roll came off, because the nuts were not locking, and the metal rod was too small. It was a pain to put back together. The orange pair, and brown pair were next to each other instead of opposite to each other. This made it harder to make the ends as the central plastic divider came in the way when the green pair had to be pulled over it.Overall the best and lowest price ca6t outdoor wire.Tips: rj45 cable needs a switch or amplifier after 300 feet, you cannot used the single full length cable as 1000 feet is too long. This wire is thicker (23 AWG) than most ethernet wires, and may not fit some ends. I used CableCreation 100-PACK Cat 6A RJ45 Modular Plug (three-piece suit). You may need a plier to straighten the individual pairs before inserting into the end.
Missing conductor
I ran several of my required Cat6 lines, because they had to go through a complicated wall system. In hooking up the ends for connection, we discovered that the beginning of the roll, and for at least 20', there were two missing conductors (green and it's twisted companion). We did not keep looking to see how far it was missing, but the green wire did exist about 50' into the roll, but after looking for 20', the cable was already way too short and we were just wasting time. Had to run a replacement line through the wall. In 42 years of doing wiring of industrial controllers for metal melting furnaces and monitoring, I have never seen a cable with missing conductors. No one (obviously) tested it for continuity, trusting process control. Difficult to have confidence in a product that has such easy to test quality issues.
