5.0 out of 5 stars Great bluray player with only 2 easily fixed downsides.
I had a cheaper no name bluray player that kept spitting out the discs at random so I decided to buy a more reputable one and I'm happy I chose this one.I only received it today but tested it with both a bluray and dvd movie. Please keep in mind I already subscribe to cyberlink software that includes power dvd. They both played all the way through with no stutters and no ejecting the disc at random. It reads the discs very well but cannot comment on burning or ripping them. The stand does feel like cheap plastic but it is sturdy and easily attachable. I have it stood vertically and it looks nice enough whilst not taking up too much space. My only problem is when it stands vertically, the discs feel as though they will slip out before it enters the player. There is a little grip at the bottom when you insert them but they look very unsteady. I did not have a problem with them slipping out but will edit this review if they do. This problem can be easily solved though by making it sit horizontally. The biggest downside is it does not come with a UK plug, it is a 2 pin European one, and I do not think the software included includes playing bluray without a subscription. I did not take a star off due to already being subscribed to Cyberlinks software and already owning a 3 pin plug adaptor for the 2 pin plug to fit into.It may seem quite expensive but this is one of those 'you get what you pay for' products that I recommend highly if you are looking for a great bluray and dvd player.
5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted.
Works perfect right out the box. I'll mainly comment on the player itself, as I doubt anyone is buying it for the software (which will always be personal taste). The stand was a bit finicky to attach (easy to break plastic bits), but once attached it might as well be one piece. Is it quiet? It's not silent, but I've ripped 30+GB blu-rays whilst in team meetings and no one's commented, so I can confidently say it won't wake anyone up.On the stand especially it is small; I have a small model mannequin on my desktop which is actually taller than it, and it's a little over an inch wide. The two-pin plug is annoying, so be warned if you're in the UK, and for the price I purchased it at (£132) it should have been included, but it's not a dealbreaker. In short, I love it and don't regret buying it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Decent kit but some Lacking issues
Arrived with an EU plug, no UK Plug. I do believe selling to the UK either a UK plug or certified adapter is meant to be supplied with the device. Bare that in mind when purchasing. The Blu-Ray drive did read the first few discs I threw at it but not "The Lost Boys" 4k UHD edition.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great, expecially for MakeMKV
This drive is awesome, it's fast, needs no special driver updates to work and is literally plug and play!If you're buying this for ripping then it's perfect, it works awesome with makemkv and gets dvd ripped in roughly 10 to 20 minutes and blurays in 15 to 35 minutes. I'm yet to try ultra 4k dvds yet though. It's slightly on the louder side, however, if you have headphones on they it drains it out and the sound isn't winy or high pitch so it isn't ear piercing or anything. It's so good and easy to use that I ended up buying two!
1.0 out of 5 stars outdated junk
I ordered this to replace my 6x dvd drive. Using Nero DiscSpeed, it showed a speed of 10x when tested on my Dell XPS 13 with USB 3.0 port. Tested this with a umber of DVDs and all the same. Tried to register product on Asus web site, site said it was an invalid serial number. Tried to update firmware, but it said I already had the latest from 2021, so 3 years out of date. Couldn't contact Asus support as you need a valid serial number which apparently, I don't have!Bought from Bolo UK, but like many others, supplied with a 2 pin EU plug.I think Asus are dumping very old stock. What a rip off! The specs advertised for this drive are all-singing all-dancing, but it doesn't sing or dance. Last Asus product I buy.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works but read entire review for program advice.
Works great but only has burner programs included. You will need a advanced program to play Blu-ray films on laptops and desktops.VLC free works great with Dvds and CD.Standard CD can also be played with WMP.Cyberlink powerDVD 18 (payable - depending on you knowledge) or above recommend for play Blu-ray.The included programs work great for burning and ripping. (We have alot of audiobooks on cd we like to have on our MP3 for travel)Usb c connection is brilliant for my laptop. (It is by chance also a Asus)This Product works a charm as long as you have the right programs.CDs, and likely regular dvds, will be plug and play. The burning programs are easy to install just be wary of the spam included as always. The player is mostly silent, only startup it has a thinking hum.It doesn't turn hot at all.Sleek design.
5.0 out of 5 stars REVIEW: ASUS BW-16D1H-U PRO external 16X Blu-ray writer, USB 3.0, Stand Design, Mac Compatible
This is clearly a high-quality product and exceptional in it's quality, ease of use and general delivery.Expensive, but the quality and functionality is at a high level to match the high price. Can easily recommend if high quality & function in a USB disc playback system is required. You won't be disappointed.
Great external Blu-ray burner
I purchased this for my granddaughter to use with her laptop. She is very pleased with it.
Fast, Accurate and Quiet
Mounted this drive in a Vantec DX2 enclosure ( https://www.Bolo.com/dp/B09SS74KCN ) and it has performed flawlessly ripping DVDs and Blu-Ray using WinX DVD and Leawo. It is super quiet compared to the LG DVD drive I've been using which was so loud I had to paperweight the top of the DX2 case to stop the vibration. WinX DVD with the LG required using safe mode; the Asus does not require safe mode and rips much faster. Ejected read-only discs aren't coming out warm either. I've driven it pretty hard in the 18 hours I've had it so long-term reliability is an unknown but with that caveat I recommend this drive.
Useless
Does not work with my MacBook Air...useless.

Not reading blu ray discs for burning..
I just bought this drive this year. It has stopped reading blu ray discs for burning. The drive came with a program called power2go (burning software) when I put in a blank blu ray it sees it... says it's 25 gig... well more like 23.5 and that it is blank. When I try to burn data to the blank disc it says this drive isn't compatible with this disc type... insert (various dvd types here) I called ASUS and NO ONE could help me. It is very hard for me to understand the india accent..I'm 59 and hard of hearing. Years ago it was so easy to call ASUS and be talking to someone in a few min. The tech support is horrible now..I only hope ASUS will replace this drive..
