About this item:
Love Your Instrument—for effortless humidity protection, use Boveda. Having been in the industry for 25 years, Boveda is a trusted and experienced brand in relative humidity control. But what does that even mean? Relative humidity (RH) refers to the percentage of humidity within an environment. In other words, it answers the question, 'how moist or dry is the air in my instrument case?' Boveda's founders & scientists discovered that the right RH has a huge impact on a wood instrument's performance & sound & safeguarding its construction. Using Boveda, you'll maintain a precise moisture level between 45 and 55% RH—no more mustiness in your instrument case. Just slip a Boveda into a Fabric Holder (available separately), position it in your case & forget about the pack until it starts to get hard. Once it does, just switch it out with a replacement pack. (This multi-pack of Boveda 49 RH Standard contains 12 individually wrapped replacement humidity control packs.) Each pack can last you up to 6 months. Its lifespan depends on how often you open your case, how airtight your case is, & how dry or humid the climate you live in is. USE BOVEDA 49% RH STANDARD HUMIDIFIER/DEHUMIDIFIER PACKS in an instrument case to maintain the right humidity for: GUITARS, including acoustic, electric, electric bass, guitarrón, hollow-body, nylon string & semi-hollow body; FRETTED INSTUMENTS, including banjo, mandolin & ukulele; STRINGS, including cello/violoncello, double bass/upright bass, hollow-body bass, viola & violin; & WOODWINDS, including bass clarinet, bassoon, clarinet & oboe. I’ve been using these for at least 20 years with my Archtop Guitars. Do they work ? That’s hard to know as I’m very careful with my instruments, at least whilst we were living in Southern California, where temperature and humidity inside a house were easily controlled. But now we live in the UK, renting, and its not so easy. I brought 7 guitars with me. One is developing quite ugly varnish cracking, unfortunately an absolutely gorgeous Wineburst Citation, (photo before cracking), but it’s a favorite, not always in its case. and on two others the binding is detaching from their pick guards. I have a de-humidifier arriving today so perhaps at least in one room I can drop the humidity from the 70’s and sometimes low 80’s to around 50%. So i’m in the middle of a battle with this UK weather hoping these Boveda are as good as they say in this first real test of their properties… When we lived In the States, a Boveda pack touching a Citation tuner took the gold off in that area, down to the base metal, and another pack, resting above the headstock tarnished the tuners on a Super V Prototype. Fortunately most evidence of this was removed by using a jewelers cloth. Occasionally a pack exhibits wet patches. But I will continue using them, we are talking about a couple of mishaps over 20 years, though unfortunately on collectable instruments affecting parts very difficult if not impossible to replace. I’m hoping the good out-ways the bad. So my message is, after learning the hard way, be careful about placement, stay away from metallic parts and open the case at least monthly to verify all is well. I also drop one pack inside my Archtops, but before doing so make sure you have a way to get it out.
Great way to protect your guitar Investment
I used these humidified packs to store my guitars when I was out of the country for over six months, they worked perfectly for that time period, I even had remote humidity monitoring in the cases so I could see the humidity inside the case, humdity was maintained constant with in a couple percent of the rated humidity on the package, they lasted a long time and worked perfectly. The price of these humidity packs is far better than the competition a great buy for those looking to ensure they avoid costly repairs to instruments due to cracking and humidity issues.
Leaking on arrival
The product is fine but the item I received was not suitable for use (see image). I received a replacement which was affected by the same issue.
