This is brilliant, super sharp, easy to use and easy to clean and the way you switch blade settings is really safe and easy. I don't like the guard very much but I use those gloves that prevent cuts which work perfectly. Definitely recommend.

The Oxo Simple slicer is a bit bigger than I expected (I should have checked the dimensions), but it's stable in use, and I've worked out how to balance it over a dish to catch the slices (useful with juicier fruit and veg). The first test was slicing tomatoes on the thinnest setting, and it passed with flying colours: a stack of perfect wafer thin slices and very little left over in the holder. Potatoes on the thickest setting went through with no trouble, and apple on the middle thickness made the neatest flan slices I have ever managed.Always use the holder to grip the food!! The blade goes through the food very fast, and with so little resistance that it's hard to judge when it's done. I would have liked a slightly thicker julienne setting, but that's a small grumble. I can get used to the matchstick size it produces, alternatively you can slice the veg to your chosen depth then cut it manually for thicker sticks. It's quite easy to clean, but make sure it's locked shut if you're washing it by hand. On the whole, I am very pleased with my purchase.

This is a good quality mandolin slicer, with a very sharp blade as I found out to my own cost. Pay attention when using it and you'll be fine

Does not feel very well made, a bit flimsy but these things are very samey across all makers. Having said that it is easy to use and does the job very well and so far has not shown any signs of failing. If someone knows of a solid quality slicer please let me know! But for now this one suffices.

This took the top of my thumb off. There aren't enough spikes in the finger guard to securely hold narrow food items in place. So you have to dispense with the guard and risk injury. The hospital say that the severed bit of my thumb may not reattach. When slicing food items large enough to be held by the spikes, the strong spring mechanism requires the guard to be held down with a degree of hand strength that elderly or disabled users may not possess. The food is then most entertainingly catapulted off the board or across the room. So don't try to slice carrots into discs, don't even attempt to process radish-sized items and don't tilt the guard to see if there is still food under it. If you still have uninjured fingers, consider purchasing "hand guard protector for slicers and graters," available on Bolo (£4.99) from a different manufacturer, which will enable you to safely grip a carrot vertically. If you are buying this OXO mandoline because you think it is safer than using knives, it isn't, in my personal experience. But 3 stars for being a sharp, sturdy present for any pysically impaired person whom you happen to dislike.
OXO Goodgrips offers a superior product
Many years ago I purchased a De Buyer V blade mandoline. It had all the right features, so I thought but it was not user friendly.I finally read that a straight blade cutter is better, easier to use and one made by OXO seemed the best option.What a difference. It is easier to use, very simple to clean, has a hand guard (very important) and cost far less than my high end previous purchase.I am pleased that I purchased this product.

This one really works. Simple, sturdy, sharp. I tried a more expensive model that had removable parts and complicated adjustments but could never get it to work. Finally threw it in the trash and started searching for a better option. This is it!! I use it primarily for slicing potatoes. They come out even with no waste. I also used it to thinly slice carrots and it worked great. Also sliced zucchini and cucumbers. I should have known OXO would be the answer.Update: Just used it to slice leeks and potatoes for Potato Leek soup. Cut prep time by 75% or more.

Nicht gefallen hat mir dass die Warenverpackung = der Versandverpackung ist. Keinerlei zusätzlicher Schutz. Ich begrüße zwar die Umweltfreundlichkeit aber ich bin auch froh den Artikel unversehrt zu sehen.Erster Eindruck, alles intuitiv benutzbar. Bedienungsanleitung überflüssig. Das Messer wirklich gemein scharf und die Verstellung funktioniert perfekt. Ob sie sich in der Praxis verstellt, wird sich zeigen. Wir werden es bald ausprobieren und weiter berichten. Für heute, angesichts des Preises von unter 30€ ein wirklich SEHR hochwertig anmutendes Gerät! Der Börne V5-Hobel, den ich kürzlich wegen nicht perfekt verarbeiteter Klinge zurück sandte, machte einen wesentlich sportlicher verarbeiteten Eindruck.Erfreulich, das Gerät passt bei eingeklapptem Fuß perfekt auf die separat erhältliche Auffangschale des Börne-Hobels, die ich wegen ihrer praktischen Form sehr empfehle.Update. Man darf nicht zu fest aufdrücken, muss ein Gefühl für das Gerät entwickeln. Sowohl bei Spitzpaprika, als auch bei Knoblauch ( Vorsicht! ) hat sie sich heute bestens bewährt. Sauscharf sozusagen und sehr angenehm zu bedienen. Härtere Bewährungen werden folgen.Update. Wie sich das Teil bei hartem Gemüse bewährt, werde ich wohl nicht heraus finden. Das härteste Gemüse war bisher Weißkohl und da funktionierte es bestens. Möhren schneiden wir lieber mit dem Messer. Wir sind weiterhin von dem Kauf begeistert, obwohl er mich inzwischen eine Fingerkuppe gekostet hat. Eigene Doofheit!
