About the Artist

'Gettin' Ready' (1966) by The Temptations marked the transition of the group from having Smokey Robinson as its main producer, with new producer Norman Whitfield taking over Robinson's position. On the instrumentation you'll hear the marvelous Funk Brothers, with their defining Motown sound. Two #1 R&B hit singles, one from each producer, are included: 'Get Ready' from Robinson with Eddie Kendricks on lead, and 'Ain't Too Proud To Beg' from Whitfield with David Ruffin on lead. Also included is the original version of 'Too Busy Thinking About My Baby', which would be re-recorded as a hit for Marvin Gaye in 1969. The Music On Vinyl edition contains two bonus tracks on Side Two: 'Give It Up' & 'The Man Who Don't Believe In Love', a track originally penned by Marv Johnson.

A Brilliant Album From The Temps. What can you say really everything the touched turned to Gold but I particularly love the early years with the classic line up of the famous five. David Ruffin , Eddie Kendricks , Paul Williams. Melvyn Franklin and Otis Williams.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Temptations Album of That Era?

R.C. · 6 April 2011

We all have our favorite albums of that period but there ar so many good songs and perfomances here. Not just the well known ones, but little gems like "Say You", "Fading Away" and the northern floor filler "Little Miss Sweetness". Easily one of my favorite albums of all time.

An early Temptations Album available on CD. Every track is of a high standard from both The Temptations and Tamla Motown at their most creative and soulful.

4.0 out of 5 stars great service average remaster

M.O. · 11 January 2019

ordering and delivery process was brilliant and item was delivered on time and well packaged, as for the disc itself, potentially a great album but the remastering process was not brilliant and when paying premium price for vinyl records I expect the best quality, not in this case, lacked detail and is slightly grainy when I expect a smooth detailed and crisp sound, this of course could have been due to the source tapes which would be pretty dated by now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Temptations,

Love the Temptations. Always been my favorite. Excepting sounds better on vinyl!

Little Miss Sweetness

s. · 2 September 2023

Ain’t Too Proud to BegとGet Readyが有名ながら、Little Miss Sweetnessが気に入っています。コーラスも決まっていますが、David Ruffinのボーカルの魅力が詰まっているように思います。何かとお騒がせな人でしたが、今になってその良さを再認識しています。

BRILLIANT TO THE POINT OF GENIUS

T. · 17 September 2014

Every one of these recently re-released mid-sixties early Temptations albums are brilliant to the point of genius. It simply does not get any better than this. Perhaps ever. Besides getting the true and original Temptations sound, you also get all the literally great work of Paul Williams on lead. I never realized that part of his tragedy was that he had a Florence Ballard experience with the Temptations, when the powers that be decided that David Ruffin appeared to have a more commercially profitable lead voice. How sad that we not only lost Mr. Williams so tragically but that his exceptional and incredible talent as a soul singer is still so under-appreciated to this day. The proof is in the listening and it is all here. Be smart and get these re-releases while you can. They are all pure gold and possibly the absolute best Motown that there is.
