It comes as a solid block with tools to chip away and reveal the fossils within. It is pretty messy but a much loved educational gift. I bought this while it was on offer, and was more than happy to pay £20. The fossils themselves are beautiful and lovely keepsakes.

My daughter loved this and was hooked from the moment she uncovered the first fossil and now really enjoyed studying them and identifying which is which.As others have said, the brick is a bit hard to start with so it'd be best to add water to soften, but poke some small holes first to allow it to soak in. The fossils were also quite grouped together, so to get one out, you'd reveal another which had to come out first. And yes, this gets quite messy, which of part of the fun!We also found it quite tricky to get all of the plaster off when rinsing, and although we got all 15 out intact, the shark tooth broke whilst we were cleaning it, so I'd recommend being quite careful with them; some are more fragile than others and younger children might be a little heavy handed when digging.Overall, a brilliant gift for any child interested fossils/science.

My 5.5 year old daughter expressed interest in archaeology and this was such a fun way to introduce her to fossils and have a good at digging. Because the fossils are so robust there is no chance of damaging anything no matter how hard she digs at the plaster and the variety is really interesting. The little guide book gives age appropriate info. It takes quite a while to dig out all the fossils so it can last a long time. The plaster can get a bit messy so would recommend doing it in a container outside.

I'm a Montessori teacher and I bought this item for an activity to do with 6 of my students. We got three days of fun and discovery out of it and the activity is still ongoing as the children are left with the fossils to explore and study at any time. It truly is a brilliant item. The brick was a little hard for the children so we used some water to softer it a little, addition that the children really enjoyed. Unfortunately we were only able to find 13 fossils and not 15. I'm not sure if that was a fabrication fault or if we accidentally threw them out. I wpuld also suggest to do this activity outdoors as it can get pretty dusty. Overall it is a very fun, educative item.

I brought this for my 5 year old daughter who is an avid Science fan for Christmas. She absolutely loved this present and spent a few hours each day excavating for fossils. The handy guide explained what each fossil was and it was easy for my 5 year old to use. I really enjoyed spending time with my daughter doing this kit and can't believe how focused she was doing this. Would highly recommend this for anyone who has a child interested in Science or fossils.

This is the perfect gift for enquiring young people that is so beautifully low tech.I bought one for my granddaughter and one for my great nephew. They have absolutely loved ‘digging’ out their fossils & then identifying them from the enclosed booklet.If you’re wondering what to give a child who’s probably got a lot of ‘stuff’ already, you could do a lot worse ( may buy one for myself!) . Recommend.

We put it in a tray so the mess was contained. My son did ask for help at times because it got tiresome on his hands, but he was always engaged, using the brush, water and the magnifying glass. The fossils are real which makes the dig even more exciting. I would definitely buy again!

Wir wohnen als Großeltern in einem Land, in dem Ausgrabung im allergrößten Ausmaß weltweit stattfindet. In dem Zusammenhang haben wir unseren Enkeln dieses wirklich interessante "Ausgrabungsspiel" geschenkt. Wir haben die Kiddies selten so begeistert gesehen.
Super cadeau pour un enfant dans sa phase "préhistoire" !
Les kits "excavation de fossile" sont légion mais celui-ci est plus généreux que la moyenne : il contient quinze fossiles (authentiques ! ce ne sont pas des reproductions) et soigne les formes, en fournissant brosse + stylet + loupe pour donner à l'enfant la sensation d'être sur un vrai chantier de fouilles. J'aime beaucoup le look du bloc de plâtre, qui arbore quelques moulages colorés de faux fossiles (oui, là ce sont des faux). Assez bien faits pour que je doive expliquer à l'enfant qu'il devait casser ceux-là, que c'était juste de la déco mais que les vrais fossiles étaient à l'intérieur du bloc ! pas en surface. :D
