Light but well-balanced pieces, with all the carefully carved features of a staunton design, each finished with a moderate glaze and green felt base. Perfectly sized for a board with 5x5cm squares. The dark-stained wooden storage box is basic, but functional and presentable. Excellent value for such an elegant set.

I got these to replace some very small, lightweight ones that kept toppling over. Very happy with the weight, size and overall quality. I considered some fancier designs (like Lord of the Rings, and a set based on birds as seen in Blade Runner) but realised that while these might look cool as a display, they wouldn't be that great for actual play. The clear visual cues from the Staunton style chess pieces help in general cognition of the board and relative positions. Well defined and good sized pieces like these ensure that you won't mistake a bishop for a pawn (believe me, I've done that more than once with cheep sets). For anyone interested in playing chess and practicing, a good set of solid Staunton design pieces is the way to go and at this price I am very happy with my choice.

These chess pieces were just the right size for my 40 cm chess board. They were well made and finished to the standard Staunton pattern and there was an attractive wooden box to store them. The only minor point I have is that although the box is large enough to contain the pieces, for ease of storage, I would have preferred it about 10% bigger.
