About this item:
The Dyson ball animal upright vacuum has the strongest suction of any vacuum. It uses Radial root cyclone technology and a self-adjusting cleaner head to remove more dirt and microscopic allergens from the home. The brush bar bristles have been made shorter and stiffer allowing deeper carpet penetration to remove more dirt, while maintaining superior performance on hard floors. Ideal for allergy sufferers and pet owners, it has whole machine filtration and comes with extra cleaning tools.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous vacuum
First time I used it my carpets had those marks across , like they’d really been well vacuumed.
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I haven’t had a Dyson for some years but needed something with a bit more oomph. This model is not named the animal for no reason. It is an absolute beast and incredibly effective. Having moved house I wanted to give the old carpets a deeper clean as we can’t replace them yet. The amount of dirt that came up was horrendous 🤢but the carpet does look and feel much better. My only caveat is that the machine is very heavy. Having said which the ball roller makes manoeuvring relatively easy and it goes up to the edges pretty well. It is good on hard floors too. I’m very happy with it.

Great vacuum
Works great
This is the most wonderful vacuum I have ever used
This is the most wonderful vacuum I have ever used. When I first moved out of my parent's house, I was given a hand-me-down Hoover that had seen better days. When I decided to buy a sweeper I got a Shark Rotator XL and it was almost as bad as my ancient Hoover. My grandpa bought me the Dyson for an engagement gift, and I can't say enough good things about it. The amount of dirt and hair that it picked up out of our rugs and carpet that the other sweeper left behind was scary. My carpet and rugs actually feel cleaner and softer after I'm done running the Dyson. It works great on hard wood floors too, which is primarily what we have in the house. I have two cats and a large dog and this sweeper picks up hair easily, even the hair that gathers right along the edge of the wall (the Shark did not, you had to use the attachment hose). The Dyson isn't super quiet, but it's not really a negative for me. I've definitely used noisier vacuums but I have used quieter ones as well. The people at Dyson made the vacuum smaller and more streamlined by storing the attachment hose in the handle, which is nice because it's not in your way, but it's not super easy to get out and put back in; however that wouldn't deter me from buying the Dyson, I think I just need more time to get used to it. If the price scares you, just know that there is a reason this vacuum is so expensive! It's worth it! My grandma still has the very first Dyson they ever released and my mom still has her second generation. Both still work as well as the day they got them.
Believe the hype
We have a medium hair German Shepherd and two long hair cats, and had a 5 year old Shark that was just not cutting it anymore. We went back and forth with should we get another Shark since we did like our old one, or spend the extra money and get what most reviews were saying to get. Well I am so glad we went with the Dyson. I’ve never had a vacuum with such strong suction. The stairs extension thing is awesome, our stairs have never looked so good. Our carpets look revived and have nice carpet lines again. The hard floor feature is awesome, I used to have to use the extension hose on the Shark and that was the only way I could vacuum the hardwood (because it’s hard floor feature wasn’t strong enough suction), but the Dyson suction is so strong it works perfectly upright. I’m confident it is picking up all if not most animal hair in the house. Any little, minor complaint I would have about it (like the stiffness of the extension hose) is not even worth talking about because at the end of the day this vacuum has strong suction, and gets the job done better than any vacuum I’ve ever had or used. Also, I have a friend who has a cleaning business and she agrees that the best vacuum of them all is Dyson, and owns one herself. I would say the price difference between the Shark animal vacuum and the Dyson one is worth splurging on the Dyson. It’s my new best friend.
Works as advertised
Really picks up debris well.
A solid machine.
We recently replaced a DC15 that had served us long and well, but whose brush bar motor had died, with this model. It works as well or better in terms of basic function (meaning as a vacuum cleaner), and some parts of the design are improvements over that older model. I like that it's smaller and lighter weight - it's more maneuverable and can get closer to walls and further under furniture without using special attachments. I like the new upholstery/carpeted stairs attachment MUCH better than the old (sold separately) one - its brushes actually work, and it does a pretty decent job (the old one used the same technology, but was too heavy to be effective - any pressure on the brushes at all would cause them to stop spinning, so it was useless). I also like the new integrated brush/narrow wand tool for being so compact. And it's noticeably quieter (it's still a vacuum cleaner, so it ain't silent, but the motor is definitely less loud).I miss the foot pedal for unlocking the handle and starting the brush head. It made it much easier to tell if the vacuum was fully locked - with this model you can think you've locked it, but let go and it'll fall back over. I don't like the hose as much, either - it's much more awkward to put away than the old one, where the whole handle pulled out and snapped back in. The power cord also appears to be about a foot shorter, and I'm disappointed that it still must be both manually coiled and when stored prevents deploying the hose - sometimes you just need to pull out the hose to pick up something spilled in a small area, and it's a pain to have to deploy the entire cord, then wrap it all back up again after a minute of use. We've only had it for about 6 weeks at this point, so I can't speak to it's long term longevity. But if our previous Dyson vacuum is any indication, I expect it to last us at least a decade, if not longer - our first one was given as a wedding present in 2005, and for most of that time it was being used in a house with a great deal of carpet and far too many cats (as many as 13 at one point, most often 6), while being maintained only intermittently. I expect if we'd taken better care of it, or used it under less extreme conditions, it would still be in use now and for some time to come.
