This Blu-Ray drive is fantastic, it works as intended with no read or write errors. My laptop does not have a DVD/Blu-ray drive or bay, so I bought this drive as I wanted to rip some old VHS videos from pre-burned discs and burn the copy's onto some Verbatim Blu-ray M-Discs. I take data archiving quite serious, and this drive ensures me no errors. I don't use the drive all the time, I use it when I archive important photos and videos. I have tried playing back DVD and Blu-Ray films and its playback is as intended too.I am using an internal to external drive enclosure and that works with it seamlessly. I have also got a 7+6 13 pin SATA adapter cable that supports this drive and it powers the drive perfectly through standard USB. The dvd writer in my Dell laptop has been a bit unreliable since I bought it but as it was in constant use I couldn't send it back. I did also need a Blu Ray burner anyway. It is easy to install. Just one screw on the Dell to take out. The bezel from the old drive fits perfectly and it slotted in perfectly. In use as noted by other it can be little noisy when in play mode. However so far I have had no burn failures for CD DVD or Blu Ray disks unlike the other drive when I lost 1-4 disks in each weekly production run of about 10 disks. So far have been using 25gb 4x for BD. Write speeds are never up to max. Usually only half or less of stated disk. But that could be down to the Roxio software being cautious. I usually have found that Hitachi-LG optical drives to be reliable. So hopefully this will give good reliable service for a long as I need itUPDATE Yesterday was backing up data and began getting one disk failure after another. Also writing was only 2x max for 4x rated disk. Nor only that it about 2/3 through it dropped to 0.02x at times and took 2-3 hours per disk - if it finished them. It turned out to be the burning software (Roxio) was the culprit. When I used Nero the difference on the same disks was incredible. 4x consistent write, data checked and so far all 3 disks OK. It might be some settings in Roxio needed to be tweaked not sure. SO conclusion is that if you are having problems with disk write failures check first for fingerprints on disk (might have been problem) or try seeing if tweaks in burn software will help or try using different software or upgrade software. Apart from that one glitch the drive has been working perfectly since.

Purchased this as an upgrade to a Lenovo Tiny M700 pc. The item was a direct upgrade and slotted into the chassis without issue.Performance is very good, with minimal noise when spinning up and I have backed up several GBs of music to 25gb Bluray discs without issue so far. It is also XL compatible, but haven't used this feature yet.Hitachi drives are my goto brand for optical drives- solid, reliable and with good support. Not always the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. High recommended drive.

I needed to swap the fascia to fit in my existing Dell XPS tower and that was tricky and easy to damage (which I did), but other than that it's any easy swap or install in to a PC, and was up and running immediately.

This is a Hitachi-LG blu-ray disc drive that will read 4K Ultra UHD discs. It is the standard 9.5mm slim size for SATA disc players and I was able to replace my old blu-ray drive without issue -- it's exactly the same size and connector.The drive works perfectly on both macOS and Windows 10, and I was pleased to find that it's possible to flash it with LibreDrive firmware that removes the region encoding, removes the speed limit on the drive, and makes it easier to make backup copies of blu-ray discs using MakeMKV.Highly recommended.

I bought it because my old Panasonic UJ-272 started to burn BDs with unnoticed errors (the worst failure that a long term storage system can have). I am pretty mad at it indeed! Anyway, I bought this model, as LG is usually a good manufacturer with fair prices. The drive is perfect for what I want, a long term storage system for videos/photos/films. The search servo mechanism is a bit noisier than in other 9.5mm drives, but that is not a problem for sequential access or DVD/BD playing (the main use of any optical storage system). I have burnt 2 BDs so far and both have compared perfectly (and at high read speeds) when read in a different drive. I am happy with it and I definitely recommend it.

Un peu bruyant et fragile mais parfaitement fonctionnel
Pour la lecture de bluray sur un laptop ou un HTPC, il fait parfaitement le job !Attention cependant sur 2 points :- il est relativement bruyant, mais pas très étonnant vu son épaisseur, il n'y a pas de silentblocs.- Le tiroir ne tient que par 2 petits bouts de plastique... Je recommande de le maintenir quand on place ou retire un cd du lecteur.

Obtained a computer with a writable DVD and wanted the possibility to read Blu-Ray backups and even to watch a movie. Replacing a DVD with Blu-Ray seemed to be the right thing to do. However it was announced (July 2024] that the production of writable Blu-Ray will be stopped. People mostly use streaming media I suppose. But I never thought that the Blu-Ray lifespan would be this short. Anyway, this is a good drive if you don’t expect blistering speeds. After all it’s kinda a notebook reader/writer and connected with SATA. But it gets its intended purpose done. No regrets from my part. Quite the opposite.
