Best abrasive out there for rapid stock removal. Period.
Best sand paper out there for removing lots of wood. I wood be careful trying to remove paint, stain, or finish with it though. I think it cuts too deep for stripping paint and finishes. I would stick with granat for stripping finishes.I mainly use the Festool Saphir paper for rapid stock removal. I completely stopped using my belt sander after I bought a Festool Rotex RO150. These sanding discs work great with it too. The dust collection is also excellent. I've found that the Saphir discs work best with my dust extractor set on low, and my RO150 running in Rotex mode. And for 80 grit Saphir, it seems like setting the sander's speed at around 4, produces the best results and gives me the highest level of control over the sander. And in most cases, when I'm going to add a finish, I've been able to start with 80 grit, then jump straight to a finer grit, without going through a long progression. And then I'm ready to stain, paint, or throw on a coat of lacquer. Saves me a run of time.The biggest thing about Saphir abrasives , is that while they do remove a lot of material, the discs also last longer than any other sandpaper I've ever used. It's obvious when you pick up a Saphir sanding disc, that the stuff is super heavy duty.... and simply unlike any other abrasives that I have used. But when you combine Saphir abrasives, the correct amount of suction from your dust extractor, and a geared orbital sander, what you get is an extremely powerful tool for stock removal. And equally as important, these discs last longer than any I've ever used. I've been using the same 80 grit pad for a month now. And I've mainly been sanding untreated 4x4s. I've also got some of the lower grit saphir, p24 I think. And I'm pretty sure I could cut my driveway in half with it. Lol.I know this stuff is bit pricey, but compared to how long other 80 grit abrasives last, you end up saving money for sure. Buy with confidence. You will definitely spend less time sanding and changing sanding discs.
