    Better than Wallaby’s & Kookaburra

    Better than Wallaby’s and Kookaburras. Due to mixed reviews I bought this brand as well as the other two. In all the photos, the Wallaby’s is to the far left, the Darrell Lea is in the middle and the Kookaburra to the far right. In the last photo, I bit each in half to reveal texture and softness.Overall Impression:-Wallaby’s was pretty looking but tasted flat and had unpleasantly tough, wavy texture that, when bitten into, left no sunk teeth marks like the other two.-Kookaburra was disgustingly soft (like a laffy taffy left in the sun too long) and the flavor was so odd I couldn’t imagine myself finishing the tub.-Darrell Lea was PERFECTION!!!! Not too hard and waxy like Wallaby’s and not too soft and odd tasting like Kookaburra.The Finger Squeeze test:-Wallaby’s was so hard and thick that, when squeezing a piece between my thumb and index finger it was legitimately impossible to crush no matter how hard I squeezed. It’s basically the texture of hard, cheap rubber. Gross.-Kookaburra was so soft I could easily crush it and it offered no resistance...like a laffy taffy left out in the sun...-Darrell Lea was PERFECT!! It didn’t crush as easily as Kookaburra (DL made my wrist work harder), but if I squeezed as hard as I could — it crushed (but not as flat as kookaburra).

    Super sticky and soft

    This was a large bag of licorice and it seemed to be so fresh that the licorice and the inside of the bag appeared to be coated with moisture. I'll echo what a lot of others have been saying... eat one piece and you feel like you need to go wash your hands. I didn't even want to touch the bag to get another piece. The taste is not too strong either... I prefer my licorice to have a little stronger flavor (hence the 4 stars - not 5 - for flavor).I actually wound up dumping a whole bunch out onto a paper plate and letting it air dry for a couple of days and it was still just as soft but not as sticky as most of that dried up. More pleasurable to eat that way. And lately, I've been leaving the bag open so the pieces closest to the opening dry up a little too. Again, easier to eat as it doesn't leave my hand so sticky. It has gotten just a slight bit rubbery, but it's still super soft and easy to eat.

    The black licorice arrived very moist, sticky and very soft in moist bag. It was not a pleasant bite, in fact totally inedible. I will not buy again.
