    Ok its a bit fiddly to set up, but the program options are excellent down to the minute intervals and best of all they are silent in operation, so no ticking or loud clicks in operation. Ive got 6 of these and not had a failure yet.

    If you are used to setting up this type of digital timer socket, and your eyesight is good, then it’s easy enough to do. If it’s your first one, or your are not a technically competent person, then look elsewhere. I have 6 similar timers in my house and they all basically programme the same way, just with different button combinations. Some models, with plenty of buttons, are fairly easy to work out without any instructions. This one requires a quick read of the instructions in the box and then it’s OK to do. Plug in timers have either a capacitor or small lithium cell inside them to store the settings should there be a power cut. On the one I received, the display was working and already had settings. This shows that someone had had it previously and presumably sent it back as they could not work out how to programme it correctly. Once set up it works perfectly. Fingers crossed it proves to be reliable.

    What sets this timer apart from others in its class is that it has a countdown timer (count to off/on) plus clock timers. This was a specific function I needed so I was glad to find it in this inexpensive timer.

    Update: One year on, this has stopped switching on. The timer still works but it will not switch on from off! So now its just another clock in the house! Disappointed that it only lasted a year.Over the years I've purchased a few of these around the house and I think its nice to know that they help with conserving energy when you arent using things. I have to say though that while I find them easy to setup, I'm sure that is very subjective. I program machines for a living which is why I find them extremely easy to setup and I've yet to find a schedule that I cant get this little gadget to deliver on. The oldest one that I own is about 5 years old and they just seem to run. I've never had any issues with these devices.

    Really useful as you can can set different timing for different days of the week. Operation is similar to others of this type and knowing others allows one use use this directly. The one thing I wish was easier to find and use is the manual override. It would be better if this were a more visible manual switch on the side, in the way the older electro-mechanical timers used to have.

    I wanted an electronic timer that was silent, rather than the slow grinding of the mechanical timer. This is perfect. I bought 3, but must admit it took several attempts at keying in the data for the time on and off functions. I would buy it again, worth the challenge.
