5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job
This is one of those items you just don’t really think about. It’s easy to set up, has acceptable video/audio quality, works well in darkness, decent motion detection, links easily into Alexa routines, upgrades well with the pan/tilt accessory and is cheap.I have a number myself and have installed more for others. While nothing special, there is also nothing wrong with this item at this price point for linkage into the rest of Blink and Alexa. I could create a list of improvements that would make it better, but it is a basic camera and a low cost, and for that it needs no more and is worth the cost.If you don’t want to set up and integrated Blink network with Alexa, and don’t mind more complicated set ups and use, you can probably find better options elsewhere. But as a basic cheap addition to a blink network this does the job, does it well, and after using for years I can confirm does it reliably too. From comparing the mini 2 to this reminded me that I had never reviewed this, add drummed in exactly how reliable they are while providing great value for money this is. I just hope they don’t stop producing them in favour of the mini 2 as just because something is cheap and basic, that doesn’t mean it hasn’t got an ongoing need and use, particularly with the reliability levels I have experienced with them.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Camera, But Frustrating Subscription Setup
The Blink Mini offers great video quality with 1080p HD and clear night vision, and the motion detection and two-way audio are handy features for pet monitoring. However, setting up the Blink subscription membership was frustrating. Despite multiple attempts and reaching out to customer service, I couldn't activate it, limiting the camera’s cloud storage capabilities. The device itself works well for live monitoring, but the inability to fully access features due to membership issues is disappointing. If you're just looking for basic functionality, it's fine, but those wanting full features might face difficulties with the subscription setup.
5.0 out of 5 stars Really clear picture
The quality of the video capture on this cam is great. It gives a lot of security when we leave the house, and we can keep an eye on what our pets are doing. The night mode is just as clear and the it is really easy to set up. It looks good too as it doesn't take up much space, it'squite discreet. The sound quality on the recordings is also good.
5.0 out of 5 stars Superb.
This camera is fantastic, especially for the price. I point it out of my dining room window to watch over our cars, the last cam I had was useless at night time, couldn't see much at all, somehow this cam picks up detail even in the dark, night vision can't be used because the light bounces back off the window, turn that off and still get great vision even at night, of course if you're using it inside the night vision is superb as well.VERY easy to setup too, literally took a couple of minutes to download the app, create an account and sync the cam.Highly recommended.
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
The media could not be loaded. Very very good! I brought this so if I’m not about I can check on my hamster, Lady Pibbles, whilst I’m not home, and it works great! You can change the lighting, quality, and you get a free 30 day trial to save any moments which I’m fully taking advantage of that 🙈 the subscription process is very straight forward, and you don’t need to have a subscription either, especially if you just want to look in the camera rather than keep footage, either way, works perfect 👌
3.0 out of 5 stars Not very impressed.
I have read good reviews of the very reasonably priced Blink camera but I did not get on with it very well. Setup wasn't too bad but other cameras I have got have been easier. The picture quality is perfectly acceptable for my purposes and I like the Blink's modern and simplistic design. However I found the 'lag' was greater than other cameras I have used. By this I mean the time delay between movement seen by the camera shows as movement on your monitor/computer etc. Now it may be my system? I am not sure because I have read reviews where the reviewers has said that the lag is minimal. Also, to be honest, if you are using the Blink just to capture & record movements/actions that have occured when you are away then the lag would make absolutely no difference to you (and you would not even be aware of the lag). However, I more often use the Blink for live monitoring and a second or two of lag is not desirable then. So, as a surveillance camera the Blink is excellent and good value, but for my needs it suffers from more lag than my other cameras. The other issue which I found the most irritating is that when you are live streaming the camera will only do that for a few minutes (up to 10 minutes). Now I know that this is a MAJOR LIMITATION with Alexa screens as they time-out within 10 minutes all the time. I simply cannot understand why this is imposed on the user. It's about time that Alexa (and Google Home screens) gave the user the option to choose whether they want the live video stream ended after 10 minutes. It's infuriating and totally limiting. I don't want to have to keep asking Alexa/Google to "show me the front door" every ten minutes. Quite utterly ridiculous. Now you may be thinking "well that's not the Blink's fault". Okay, I agree, it's something foisted upon all smart cameras. However, even using the Blink app, the same thing happens! I have several cameras that, when using their own app and viewing live action on, for instance a tablet, they will stream continuously all day. That should be the choice that I have with the Blink camera... and Alexa and Google. So, because of the above issues, I cannot recommend the Blink for live streaming. If you don't require that feature and just want recordings made of things happening when you are awar, then the camera is fine and good, in fact great, value. But it doesn't work for my particular needs i.e. live monitoring of areas of and around my property.
