5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to fault - very happy with this.
For many, the idea of spending nearly two hundred pounds on a streaming box when you can get an excellent Fire 4k stick or Roku for much cheaper doesn't make sense. But this is one of those bits of kit that the cognoscenti (who I don't claim to be a part of) know is a great purchase. I've gone from the 4k Fire Stick, to the 4k Fire Cube to this and am happy I made the switch. The first thing against the Fire devices is how many remote controls I've gone through - they seem to fail at an alarming rate and when the latest stopped working, I thought I'd try the fabled Nvidia Shield Pro. So what makes it so good?First of all, it's a sleek looking box that has two USB 3.0 connections and immediately recognised my hard drive - it didn't need any formatting or software and just worked. Set up was very easy as was the downloading of apps - the one thing I would say is that the Android store isn't full and there are quite a few missing. That said, the box is easy to side-load with apps and these worked immediately (there's some very good tutorials explaining how to do this). I set up Plex immediately and, again relying on tutorials, cracked this excellent bit of software quickly. I was soon using the Shield as a network device for my media and was very happy with the speed and response. The Toblerone shaped remote is surprisingly ergonomic and feels good in the hand - Mrs Pugh immediately noticed how responsive it was.The biggest selling point for me, apart from the freedom regarding apps and settings, was the AI-picture enhancer. I could write a long article on this, but others go into it with much more knowledge so I will not go overboard. Needless to say, the 4k enhancer is superb and among the best bits of image processing I've ever seen. Other processing software items tend to over-emphasise pseudo-HDR, meaning that older films get this strange, bright, noisy picture that is trying to look modern. As I have an OLED, this look especially bad and as I am evangelical about deep black levels, having this fake, LED wannabe brightness has never impressed me. So when Nvidia claim that this can enhance 1080p to 4k, I was dubious. However, I was VERY impressed! I tried it on films where dark scenes have sudden bursts of light, 'Blade Runner', 'Aliens' and the like', and the result was superb. My wife's K-Dramas have never looked better with detail that look native; it really did wow me with how it enhanced so many different kinds of pictures. That, in itself, makes it worth investment. However, if you are a gamer, there is also the Nvidia App which apparently allows you to play higher end games on it - that gives some idea of the processing power it has. I thought long and hard about buying this, but I'm so glad I spent the cash - it's added a new dimension to the viewing of films and television and even the sound processing is a big step up.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best android tv box
A really good android box for game streaming and watching shows. Doesn't freeze. Never slows down. The remote is stylish and comfy and is backlit for using in the dark. May seem pricey but well worth it.Ive used a few different android tv boxes and most of them are rubbish
5.0 out of 5 stars The best android box
This is the absolute best Android box and it's significantly improves the quality of the visuals from your TV. It's very easy to use and has lots of function including being able to upscale content delivered through this. The build quality of the actual box is good and sturdy, and for this particular model you need a USB storage device such as a hard drive or USB stick rather than a microSD card. It has an ethernet cable HDMI in USB in. I have noticed that it can occasionally freeze but this is not very common at all about once every couple of months and I've noticed that not with this device but with the smaller cylindrical shaped shield and it is something to do with the micro SD card because when you remove that there is no freezing. Over this device would have better stability due to the use of USB compared to micro SD.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Excellent Streaming product.
I purchased the 1st version but my wife & daughter were never off it so I was forced to buy another and went for the the Shield pro.It always amazed me how small this machine is and what Nvidia crammed into it. Upgrades are Dolby Atmos/Vision unfortunately I couldn't make use of the new feature since I own a Samsung Qled which does not support it. Chromecast 4k is a nice feature which I use alot casting my tablet to my shield very useful. Google assistant is second to none probably the best assistant out of them all imho.Because i have 200+ games on steam the nvidia support to stream your steam library was a primary reason why I purchased the 2019 pro model. And boy do the games look stunning in 4k, they also run great and look absolutely stunning on my qled Samsung. I was dazzled by the quality. If you have an extensive steam Library then this machine will allow you to utilize your games in the comfort of your couch, or in my case, my bedroom. It has all the other obvious app support that you expect, prime, netflix and a hjost of others. You have access to the playstore which is handy for installing your apps.Overall it's a very feature packed machine and for the price it's justified if you have the content to justify the price.A couple of things which I'm sure will be fixed at some point. I purchased the microsoft elite controller series 2 and whilst it does pair and the thumb controller works for navigation the other buttons do not work as of writing this review. I'm sure there will be an update at some point to give the Microsoft elite controller series 2 full compatibility.I did have to use the previous version control pad to play games and whilst it's a great controller it's not the premium quality of a elite series 2. Speaking of which you will need to buy a controller as one is not included with the 2019 pro or standard model.Another thing that has always bugged me about the shield is that the USB 3 ports on the back are too close together which sometimes stops you plugging other devices to the adjacent port if the usb part is too big or an odd shape which sometimes it is with lots of usb sticks, and other usb devices. Bare that in mind. I remedied this by plugging a 6 port usb hub so I could get all my usb devices plugged in.Like I said, I'm very happy with the machine, i was with the previous version. It's great for what it was designed for and doesn't try to be anything else.
Great device
This has elevated my tv watching experience and the picture quality and functionality is both easy to use and simple.to set up. Took me 20mins from opening the box to sitting back and watching rhe tv. The quality of the picture from a standard set top box is on another level The only thing that I cannot work out is where do the batteries go for the remote control if I were to chnage them. Not a today problem.

Worth it.
I've used streaming boxes for years and the run of the mill boxes I've bought recently are hopeless. Finally decided to go for a Shield and yes it is a blessing. It's as good as they say it is, very happy chappy
